Question : What is 'Wobbling' in tRNA? |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :(i) The third base of the codon is called wobble base and this PORTION is called wobble position. The actual base pairing between codon of mRNA and anticodon of tRNA occurs at first two positions only. The pairing at the third base need not be complementary. This is called Wobbling. (ii) It ALLOWS more than one tRNA to code for an amino ACID. |

Question : What is water potential of pure water at atmospheric pressure? What happens to it when solutes are added toit? |
| Answer» SOLUTION :Water POTENTIAL of pure water at ATMOSPHERIC pressure is ZERO. Addition of solutes lowers the water potential of pure water and it becomes NEGATIVE. | |
| 7383. |
Question : What is water potential ? |
|
Answer» Solution :1. The concept of water potential was introduced in 1960 by Slatyer and TAYLOR. 2. Water potential is potential energy of water in a system COMPARED to pure water when both temperature and pressure are kept the same. 3. It is also a measure of how freely water molecules can move in a particular ENVIRONMENT or system. 4. Water potential is denoted by the Greek symbol `psi` (psi) and measured in Pascal (Pa). At standard temperature the water potential of pure water is zero . |

Question : What is tubular secretion? Name the substances secreted through the renal tubules. |
|
Answer» Solution :1. Tubular secretion is the passage of waste material from the blood to the filtrate in the Nephron. It is the last stage of Excretory process TAKING place in the Nephron. 2. Substances such as H+, K+, NH +, creatinine and organic acids move into the filtrate from the peritubular capillaries into the tubular fluid. 3. Most of the water is ABSORBED in the proximal convoluted tubule and Na+ is exchanged for water in the loop of Henle. Hypotonic fluid enters the distal convoluted tubule and substances such as urea and salts PASS from peritubular blood into the cells of DCT. 4. The URINE excreted contains both filtered and secreted substances. Once it enters the collecting duct, water is absorbed and concentrated hypertonic urine is formed. 5. For every H+ secreted into the tubular filtrate, a Nat is absorbed by the tubular cell. The H+ secreted combines with HCO,, HPO, and NH, and gets fixed as H,CO, H,PO, and NH, respectively. Since it gets fixed in the fluid, reabsorption of H+ is prevented. |
