Correct option: (2) Lightly doped so that recombination is less

Explanation:

The base region is kept thin and is also lightly doped. This is to ensure that the charge carriers, from the emitter, cross over (without any significant recombination) and get collected in the collector region.

Explain the following observations:(i) Generally there is an increase in density of elements from titanium (Z = 22) to copper (Z = 29) in the first series of transition elements.(ii) Transition elements and their compounds are generally found to be good catalysts in chemical reactions.

Answer»

(i) The density of elements from titanium to copper increase in the first series of transition elements. This is due to decrease in metallic radius coupled with increase in atomic mass results in a general increase in the density.
(ii) Many transition metals and their components show catalytic properties. This property is due to their ability to exhibit variable oxidation states (incomplete d-orbitals) which enable them to form unstable intermediates.

Find the missing values: BaseHeightArea of triangle15 cm87 cm2 31.4 mm1256 mm222 cm170.5 cm2

Answer»

We know that the area of triangle

= 1/2 x base x height

In first row,

base = 15 cm and area = 87 cm2

87 =1/2 x 15 x height

⇒ height =(87 x 2)/15

= 11.6 cm

In second row, height = 31.4 mm and area = 1256 mm2

\ 1256 = 1/2 x base x 31.4

⇒ base = (1256 x 2)/31.4

=80 mm

In third row,

base = 22 cm and area = 170.5 cm2

170.5 = 1/2 x 22 x height

⇒ height = (170.5 x 2) /22

=15.5 cm

Thus, the missing values are:

BaseHeightArea of triangle
15 cm11.6cm87 cm2
80 mm31.4 mm1256 mm2
22 cm15.5cm170.5 cm2

What is contraception? What are the contraceptive methods followed for birth control?

Answer»

Contraception is a way to prevent pregnancy and there are many different types. Some are more effective than others. Any device or chemical (drug) which prevents pregnancy in woman is called contraceptive.

(i) Physical devices such as condoms and diaphragm (cap) are used. This prevents reaching of sperms to ova for fertilisation.

(ii) Chemicals in the form of pills are induced either orally or inserting into female reproductive organ vagina.

(iii) Pills for males kill the sperms and hence are called spermicide.

(iv) The use of intra - uterine device called copper - T, loop, etc. are also very effective in preventing pregnancy.

(v) Surgical methods of birth control are available for males as well as females.

(vi) In males a small portion of vas deferens (sperm duct) is removed by surgical operation and both ends are tied properly. This method is called Vasectomy.

(vii) In females a small portion of oviducts (fallopian tubes) is removed by surgical operation and the cut ends are tied. This method is called Tubectomy.
