Write a story in 200-250 words beginning with the following line and give it a suitable title. Night before the zonal debate competition .... Everyone was fast asleep, while I was practicing ... suddenly |
Answer» A Terrible Collision Night before the zonal debate competition, I was practicing my part till late night. Everyone was fast asleep. Even I was planning to go to sleep. Suddenly, there was a loud crash. I jumped out of my bed and rushed out to see the cause of that sound. The sight outside was ghastly. Two cars had collided with each other because of the dense fog. The occupants of both the cars were screaming and shouting for help. Other people had also come out of their houses after hearing the sound. In a flash of second, everyone started helping the injured. There were four young men in one car who were returning after attending a party while a family was there in the other car. The drivers of both the cars were badly injured. I called up the ambulance service and the police as well. Within no time, the ambulance reached there. It was a tough job taking the passengers out of the front seat as they had got stuck in their seats due to the collision. Many helping hands came forward and finally all the passengers from both cars were taken out. They were taken to a nearby hospital. Two people had not received serious injuries so they were asked to inform their family members about the accident. One man from the crowd informed the authorities to send a crane as the cars had blocked the road as well. It took almost one hour for all this. Then I went inside but I could not practice any more due to the terrible scenes flashing in my mind. The only good thing was that nobody had lost his or her life and all were safe. |

Women face disadvantage, discrimination and oppression in various ways even today. Assess the statement by giving five suitable argument. |
Answer» (a) The literacy rate among women is only 54 per cent compared with 76 percent among men. Similarly, a smaller proportion of girl students go for higher studies. Many of them drop out because parents prefer to spend their resources for their boys' education. (b) The proportion of women among the highly paid and valued jobs is still very small. On an average an Indian woman works one hour more than an average man every day. Yet much of her work is not paid and therefore often not valued. (c) The Equal Wages Act provides that equal wages should be paid to equal work. However, in almost all areas of work, from sports and cinema, to factories and fields, women are paid less than men, even when both do exactly the same work. (d) In many parts of India, parents prefer to have sons and find ways to have the girl child aborted before she is born. Such sex-selective abortion led to a decline in child sex ratio. (e) They are not safe even within their own home from beating, harassment and other forms of domestic violence. |

In an acute angled triangle ABC, if tan (A+B-C) = 1 and sec (B+C-A) = 2, find the values of A, B and C. |
Answer» Tan (A+B-C) = 1 Tan 45° = 1 Hence, A+B-C = 45° ........(i) Sec (B+C-A) = 2 Sec 60° = 2 Hence, B+C-A = 60° .......(ii) Adding equation (i) and (ii), we get, A+B-C + B+C-A = 45° + 60° 2B = 105° B = 52.5° Hence, A+B-C = 45° A+52.5° -C = 45° A-C = 45° - 52.5° A-C = -7.5° ............(iii) Now, A+B+C = 180° Hence, A + 52.5° + C = 180° (Angles of the triangle) A + C = 180° - 52.5° A + C = 127.5° .........(iv) Now, Adding equation (iii) and (iv), we get, A-C + A + C = -7.5° + 127.5° 2A = 120° A = 120°/2 A = 60° C = 127.5° - 60° C = 67.5° Hence, A = 60°, B = 52.5° and C = 67.5°. |

What is meant by co-ordination? State its any four features. |
Answer» "Coordination is an orderly arrangement of group efforts to provide unity of actions to pursue a common purposes". Four characteristics of co-ordination are as follows: (i) Coordination integrates group efforts: The need for co-ordination is felt when group effort is needed for the accomplishment of the objectives. In short, it can be said that co-ordination is related to group and not to individual efforts. The question of coordination does not arise if the entire job in done by a single person only. (ii) Co-ordination ensures unity of action: The nature of coordination is of creating unity of action. It means that by using co-ordination process, an effort is made to create unity among the various activities of an organisation, for e.g., the purchase and sales departments have to coordinate their efforts so that the supply of goods takes place according to purchase order. (iii) Co-ordination is a continuous process: It is not a job which can be performed once and for all, but its need is felt at every step. Many activities are performed in a business today and tomorrow. If any one activity goes on fluctuating either for more or less than required, the balance of the whole organisation disturbs. Thus, a close watch has to be kept on all the activities to maintain the balance. (iv) Co-ordination is all pervasive function: Co-ordination is required in all the organisations in all the departments, by all the levels of management and at all the times. In other words, pervasiveness means applicability to all spheres and places uniformly. (v) Deliberate or Conscious activity: Co-ordination is a consciously planned managerial activity. Every manager has to take deliberate actions to achieve co-ordination. In other words, co-ordination does not occur automatically, adequate measures have to be taken to achieve co-ordination. |

The mean of 13 observation is 14. If the mean of the first 7 observation is 12 and that of last 7 observation is 16, find the 7th observation. |
Answer» Let the 7th observation be p. Now, Sum of 13 observation = 13 × 14 = 182. Sum of first 7 observation = 12 × 7 = 84. Sum of last 7 observation = 16 × 7 = 112. Sum of last 6 observation = 112 - p. Sum of 13 observation = Sum of first 7 observation + Sum of last 6 observation = 84 + 112 - p = 196 - p So, 196 - p = 182 =>p = 196 - 182 = 14. Thus, the 7th observation is 14. |

Describe the carbon cycle in nature. How does deforestation affect this cycle? |
Answer» Carbon cycle is a series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment, involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels. ● About 49% of the dry weight of living organisms is made up of carbon. ● The ocean reserves and fossil fuels regulate the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. ● Plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere for photosynthesis, of which a certain amount is released back through respiratory activities. ● A major amount of CO2 is contributed by the decomposers who contribute to the CO2 pool by processing dead and decaying matter. ● The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been increased considerably by human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, deforestation. Affect of Deforestation: The plant convert the atmospheric CO2 into organic compound by the process of photosynthesis. Due to deforestation the plant performing photosynthesis will decrease and less amount of CO2 will be fixed into organic compounds. In this way the amount of CO2 will increase in the environment which could further lead to greenhouse effect and global warming. |

What is meant by osmoregulation? How is it maintained in human body? |
Answer» Osmoregulation is the active regulation of the osmotic pressure (salt and water concentration) of an organism's body fluids to maintain homeostasis. Organisms in both, aquatic and terrestrial environments must maintain the right concentration of solutes and amount of water in their body fluids. Kidneys play a very important role in human osmoregulation. They regulate the amount of water in urine waste. With the help of hormones such as antidiuretic hormone, aldosterone, and angiotensin II, the human body can increase the permeability of collecting ducts in the kidney to reabsorb water and prevent it from being excreted. |
