About diamond structure

Answer» Structure of diamond: In diamond each carbon atom is tetrahedrally attached to four carbon atoms through four strong covalent bonds (Fig. 4.2).Thus no free electrons on carbon are left and all bonding electrons of the carbon atom are engaged. This strong covalent bonding in its structure makes it hardest natural substance and a non-conductor of electricity.Properties and uses:\xa0(i) Diamond is a hard substance and because of this hardness, it is used for making glass cutters and rock borers for drilling.(ii) It has a high refractive index and is therefore used as a precious gem for making jewellery etc.(iii) It is non-conductor of heat and electricity.(iv) It is chemically unreactive.(v) It is used for precision thermometers because of its extra ordinary sensitivity to heat rays.(vi) It is not affected by harmful radiations.\xa0

Why does a catalyst not effect the magnitude of equilibrium constant

Answer» Meghna write answer is catalyst increases both forward and backward reaction so it overall affect is zero....?
Catalyst do not change the magnitude of the equilibrium constant because it only helps in attaining the equilibrium quickly. It is only made to fast up the reaction.

What is molecular orbital theory.

Answer» Thanks
The features of the Molecular orbital theory are provided below.\tDuring the filling of electrons into molecular orbitals, the orbitals with the lowest energy levels are always the first to be filled. This selective filling of lower energy orbitals is commonly referred to as the Aufbau Principle.\tIn the molecular orbital theory, each of the molecular orbitals formed can only accommodate up to two electrons that have opposite spin. This is also called the Pauli Exclusion Principle.\tWhen two molecular orbitals have the same energy levels, electron pairing can only occur when both of these orbitals have one electron. This rule is often called Hund’s rule.\tThe molecular orbitals like atomic orbitals are filled in accordance with the Aufbau principle, Pauli’s exclusion principle, and the Hund’s rule.\tThe energy levels of bonding molecular orbitals are always lower than those of anti-bonding molecular orbitals. This is because the electrons in the orbital are attracted by the nuclei in the case of bonding MOs whereas the nuclei repel each other in the case of the anti-bonding MOs.
