What is buffer action |
Answer» Buffer action: the ability of the buffer solution to resist the changes in pH value on the addition of small amount of an acid or a base is known as buffer action. The property by which it resist theft change in ph value Buffer action: the ability of the buffer solution to resist the changes in pH value on the addition of small amount of an acid or a base is known as buffer action. For example: consider an acidic buffer such as a solution containing an equimolar amounts of acetic acid and sodium acetate, the solution contains a large number of sodium ions (Na+), acetate ions (CH3COO–) and also a large number of undissociated acetic acid molecules.CH3COONa (aq) ————-> CH3COO– (aq) + Na+ (aq)Suppose, a few drops of HCl are added to this buffer solution. This would provide hydrogen (H+) ions. These additional H+ ions would combine with the large reserve of CH3COO– ions to form undissociated acetic acid molecules.CH3COO– (aq) + H+ (aq) ⇌ CH3COOHThe additional H+ ions are neutralized by CH3COO– ions in the solution, hence there will be no change in its pH value. The reserve basicity of the solution is due to acetate ions. |

Define viscosity |
Answer» Property of a fluid that resists the force tending to cause the fluid flow The force between layers of liquid Viscosity is internal rasistant to flow in liqued which aresses due to the internal frectio between learce of liqued as this stap to another why liqued flow Viscosity is the magnitude of internal friction in a fluid, as measured by the force per unit area resisting uniform flow.Viscosity is a fluid\'s resistance to flow. Water runs through a funnel really quickly because it has very little resistance to flow or Viscosity\xa0The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to gradual deformation by shear stress or tensile stress. For liquids it corresponds to the informal concept of thickness for example honey has a much higher viscosity than water. |
