1.

In the absence of muscle cells, how do plant cells show movement ?

Answer»

The ability of a plant to detect the change and respond to that change is termed as the sensitivity of the plant. Yet plants have no nervous system and no muscle tissue, they use electrical and chemical means to convey the information from one cell to another cell. The leaves of the sensitive plant (Mimosa Pudica) folds up in response to touch. These leaf movements are independent of growth whereas, the directional movement of the shoot of a germinating seedling breaking through the soil is growth dependent.

2.

The final image in a astronomical telescope (w.r.t. object) is. A) Real and inverted B) Virtual and erect C) Virtual and inverted D) Real and erect

Answer»

The correct option is C) Virtual and inverted.

An astronomical telescope is an optical instrument which is used to see the magnified image of distinct heavenly bodies like stars, planets, satellites and galaxies etc. The final image formed by an astronomical telescope is always virtual, inverted and magnified. So, recently they saw lunar eclipse.

4.

If a constant force of 800 N produces an acceleration of 5 m/s2 in a body, what is its mass? If the body starts from rest, how much distance will it travel in 10 s?

Answer»

Given: F = 800 N, a = 5 m/s2, u = 0, t = 10 s

To find: mass (m), distance travelled (s)

Formulae:

i. F = ma

ii. s = ut + \(\frac{1}{2}\)at2

Calculation:

From formula (i),

∴ m = \(\frac{F}{a}=\frac{800}{5}\) = 160 kg

From formula (ii),

s = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × 5 × (10)2 [∵ u = 0]

∴ s = 250 m

Mass of the body is 160 kg and the distance travelled by the body is 250 m.

5.

State any two uses of convex lenses.

Answer»

Two uses of convex lenses:-

1. As a magnifying glass.

2. For making a simple camera.

6.

Fill in the following blanks with suitable words : (a) Parallel rays of light are refracted by a convex lens to a point called the………. (b) The image in a convex lens depends upon the distance of the…………. from the lens

Answer»

(a) focus.

(b) object.

7.

The refracted rays ………………. when they are pass through the focus of a lens.A) travel parallel to the principal axis B) meet at focus C) meet at centre of curvature D) none

Answer»

A) travel parallel to the principal axis

8.

Where do light rays travelling to principal axis converge?

Answer»

They converge at focus.

9.

A convex lens forms a blurred image of an object on a screen. Suggest a suitable way to get a sharp image on a screen without disturbing the object, lens or the screen.

Answer»

By placing another lens of suitable nature and focal length between the object and the screen.

10.

What happens to light rays passing through focus?

Answer»

The path of the rays is parallel to principal axis after refraction.

11.

A light ray enters from medium A to medium B as shown in the given Figure .The refractive index of medium B relative to A will be (a) greater than unity (b) less than unity (c) equal to unity(d) zero

Answer»

The answer is (b) less than unity

  • Here the ray of light bends away from normal when it enters from medium A into medium B.
  • This shows that medium B is optically rarer than medium A.
  • Therefore, speed of light in medium B is more than speed of light in medium A.
  • So, ratio of speed of light in medium A to speed of light in medium B will be less than one.
12.

Beams of light are incident through the holes A and B and emerge out of the box through the holes C and D respectively as shown in the given Figure. Which of the following could be inside the box? (a) A rectangular glass slab (b) A convex lens (c) A concave lens (d) A prism

Answer»

The answer is(a) A rectangular glass slab

  • When incident rays fall perpendicularly on the point of incidence.
  • A rectangular glass slab would refract and then re-refract it.
13.

(i) A ray of light passes from water to air. How does the speed of light change? (ii) Which colour of light travels fastest in any medium except air?

Answer»

(i) When light passes from water to air i.e., from denser to rarer its speed increases.

(ii) Red light travels fastest.

14.

Why is the colour red used as a sign of danger?

Answer»

Red colour is used as sign of danger due to its greater wavelength and lesser deviation (scattering).

15.

A photocell employs photoelectric effect to convert (a) change in the frequency of light into a change in the electric current (b) Change in the frequency of light into a change in electric voltage (c) Change in the intensity of illumination into a change in photoelectric current (d) Change in the intensity of illumination into a change in the work function of the photo cathode

Answer»

(c) Change in the intensity of illumination into a change in photoelectric current

It indicates that threshold frequency is greater than that of ultraviolet light. As X-rays have greater frequency than uv rays, so they can cause photoelectric effect

16.

Fill in the blanks with most appropriate option. Bio-gas is an excellent fuel as it contains up to 75%  (i) lt burns without smoke, leaves no residue like ash in wood. lts heating capacity is (ii) . 19.

What happens to be image formed by a convex lens if its lower part is blackened?

Answer»

Every part of a lens forms a complete image. If the lower part of the lens is blackened the complete image will be formed but its intensity will be decreased.

20.

On what factor does focal length of a lens depend?

The Secretary Sports Authority

845, 3n, Ave., NY

Sir,

Sub: Not Receiving Medal at the Golden Gloves Championship Tournament Ref: Your Show Cause Notice dated 8 August 2005

I really regret the inconvenience I caused during the valedictory function of the Tournament. I do believe that in a game a contestant should fight well with true sportsman spirit rather than fight for a medal. I also believe that the value of a medal is not greater than the bond between human relationships. Please remember that my opponent was by closest friend.

I know that I won the match only because of my friend. He frightened me throughout the game. But in the last few minutes I faced only mild punches from him. He wanted me to win the match.

In the circumstances I may kindly be exempted from any disciplinary action.

your truly,

Sd/-
