How western education and literature in modern India paved way for Indian independence? |
Answer» A number of schools and colleges were established in the modern period in India where education was given in Indian languages as well as in English language. Western ideas also spread in country through western education and literature. Sense of liberty, equality and fraternity developed among such Indians who received education of philosophy, history and western civilization. They were not able to tolerate the British rule in India and were unable to tolerate the economic exploitation of the country. That’s why they started national movement against the British rule. They gave great sacrifices and suffered a lot and brought freedom for the country in 1947 A.D. |

Write a note on the advent of independent states in India in modern period. |
Answer» Many provinces of the Mughal empire took advantage of its weakness and declared themselves independent. First of all Nizam-ul-Mulk founded Hyderabad state in 1724 A.D. After this, Murshid Quli Khan and Alivardi Khan made Bengal a free state. Saadat Khan founded the Avadh state in 1739 A.D. In the same way Hyder Ali founded the state of Mysore in the south. State of Mysore developed to a great deal under Hyder Ah and his son Tipu Sultan. The Marathas also took advantage of this situation. Mention three properties of electric charge. |
Answer» 1. Electrc charge is conserved 2. Electric charge is quantised 3. Electric charge is additive |
| 17. |
What are the Electric charges and their properties ? |
Answer» There are two types of charges, namely positive and negative and their effects tend to cancel each other. Smallest electric charge is charge of electron e = 1.6 x 10-19 coulombs. If the sizes of charged bodies are very small as compared to the distances between them, we treat them as point charges. All the charge content of the body is assumed to be concentrated at one point in space. Properties of Electric charges : (1) Type of charges : Only two types of charges exist namely positive and negative. (2) Nature of charges : (i) like charges repel and (ii) unlike charges attract each other. (3) Additivity of charges : If a system contains two point charges q1 and q2, the total charge of the system is obtained simply by adding algebraically q1 and q2 , i.e., charges add up like real numbers or they are scalars like the mass of a body. If a system contains n charges q1, q2, q3, …, qn, then the total charge of the system is q1 + q2 + q3 + … + qn. Charge has magnitude but no direction, similar to the mass. However, there is one difference between mass and charge. Mass of a body is always positive whereas a charge can be either positive or negative. Ex : +2C + 5C - 3C = +4C (4) Conservation of charges : Within an isolated system consisting of many charged bodies, due to interactions among the bodies, charges may get redistributed but it is found that the total charge of the isolated system is always conserved. It is not possible to create or destroy net charge carried by any isolated system although the charge carrying particles may be created or destroyed in a process. Sometimes nature creates charged particles: a neutron turns into a proton and an electron. The proton and electron thus created have equal and opposite charges and the total charge is zero before and after the creation. (5) Quantisation of charge : The electric charge exists in discrete packets and is always an integral multiple of e. i.e., q = ± ne; where n = 1, 2, 3, 4, ---- and e =1.6 x 10-19 coulombs is termed as quantisation of charge. (6) Scalar quantity : Electric charge is scalar quantity. |

| 18. |
Mention any two properties of electric field lines. |

| 19. |
Write any two viral diseases. |
Answer» 1. AIDS 2. Hepatitis. |
| 20. |
State the Properties of Electric Field. |
Answer» Properties of Electric Field : (i) The field exists at every point in three-dimensional space. (ii) For a positive charge, the electric field will be directed radially outwards from the charge. On the other hand, if the source charge is negative, the electric field vector, at each point, points radially inwards. (iii) Since the magnitude of the force F on charge q due to charge Q depends only on the distance r of the charge q from charge Q, the magnitude of the electric field E will also depend only on the distance r. Thus at equal distances from the charge Q, the magnitude of its electric field E is same. (iv) Electric field is a vector quantity whose magnitude and direction are uniquely determined at every point in the field. |

An infinite line charge produces a field of 9 × 104NC-1 at a distance of 2cm. Calculate the linear charge density. |
Answer» Given E = 9 × 104 NC-1 , r = 2 cm = 0.02 m Since E = \(\frac{1}{4\pi \varepsilon_0 }.\frac{2\lambda}{r}\) or \(\lambda=\frac{4\pi \varepsilon_0\times E\times r}{2}\) = \(\frac{9\times10^4\times0.02}{9\times10^9\times2}\) = 10-7cm-1 |

What is Physical significance of electric field ? |
Answer» The accelerated motion of charge q1 produces electromagnetic waves, which then propagate with the speed c, reach q2 and cause a force on q2. The notion of field elegantly accounts for the time delay. Thus, even though electric and magnetic fields can be detected only by their effects (forces) on charges, they are regarded as physical entities, not merely mathematical constructs. |

Elucidate the methodology of ELISA test. |
Answer» During diagnosis the sample suspected to contain the antigen is immobilized on the surface of an ELISA plate. The antibody specific to this antigen is added and allowed to react with the immobilized antigen. The antiantibody is linked to an appropriate enzyme like peroxidase. The unreacted anti-antibody is washed away and the substrate of the enzyme (hydrogen peroxidase) is added with certain reagents such as 4-chloronaphthol. The activity of the enzyme yields a coloured product indicating the presence of the antigen. |

Answer» ELISA – Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay is a biochemical procedure done to detect the presence of specific antibodies or antigens or hormones in a sample of serum, urine etc. |
