A person is not able to see objects farther than 80 cm clearly, while another person is not able to see objects beyond 120 cm, clearly. The powers of the lenses used by them for correct vision are in the ratio -A. `2:3`B. `3:2`C. `1:2`D. `2:1`

Answer» Correct Answer - B
`(1)/(f_(1))=(1)/(80)-(1)/(-oo)`
`(1)/(f_(2))=(1)/(-120)-(1)/(-oo)`
`(1)/(f_(2))xx(f_(1))/(1)=-(1)/(120)((-80)/(1))`
`(f_(1))/(f_(2))=(2)/(3)`
`(P_(1))/(P_(2))=(3)/(2)`

3.

A capacitor of capacitance `10 m F` is charged up a potential difference of `2V` and then the cell is removed. Now it is connected to a cell of `emf 4V` and is charged fully. In both cases the polarities of the two cells are in the same directions. Total heat produced in the second charging process is :A. `10 mJ`B. `20 muJ`C. `40 muJ`D. `80 muJ`

Answer» Correct Answer - B
b. Energy stored in capacitor when it is charged up to 2 V is
`1/2 xx 10 xx 2^2 = 20 muJ = u_1` (suppose)
Energy stored in capacitor when it is charged up to 4 V is
`1/2 xx 10 xx 4^2 = 80 muJ = u_2` (suppose)
Increase in charge = 40 -20 = `20muC`.
Energy drawn from cell `= 20 xx 4 = 80 muC` = u (suppose)
heat produced ` = u_1 + u-u_2`
`= 20 + 80 - 80 = 20 muJ` .
4.

Two identical thin metal strips one of aluminium and the other of iron are riveted together to form a bimetallic strip. The temperature is raised by `50^(@)C`. A ray of light travelling in air enters obliquely into water. Does the light ray bend towards the normal or away from the normal? Why?

Answer»

Light ray travelling in air and entering obliquely into water is bent towards the normal; because the speed of the ray decreases in water.

20.

A ray of light travelling in air enters obliquely into water. Does the light ray bend towards the normal or away from the normal? Why?

Answer» The light ray bends towards the normal. When a ray of light travels from an optically rarer medium to an optically denser medium, it gets bent towards the normal. Since water is optically denser than air, a ray of light travelling from air into the water will bend towards the normal.
21.

Define power of a lens. What is its unit? One student uses a lens of focal length 50 cm and another of –50 cm. What is the nature of the lens and its power used by each of them?

Answer»

Hint — P = 1/f where f is in metre. Its unit is Dioptre. Lens is convex in the first case and concave in the second case. Power is equal to 2 dioptre in the first case and –2 dioptre in the second case.

22.

What are the sign conventions followed for lenses?

Answer»

The sign conventions for thin lenses differ only in the signs followed for focal lengths.

(a) The sign of focal length is not decided on the direction of measurement of the focal length from the pole of the lens as they have two focal lengths, one to the left and another to the right (primary and secondary focal lengths on either side of the lens).

(b) The focal length of the thin lens is taken as positive for a converging lens and negative for a diverging lens.

23.

The source-quench message in ICMP was designed to add a kind of ____________ to the IP.(a) error control(b) flow control(c) router control(d) switch control

Answer» Right option is (b) flow control

To explain I would say: Firstly, it informs the source that the datagram has been discarded. Secondly, it warns the source that there is congestion in the network. It’s type 4 error reporting message after which the source is expected to reduce the flow of packets.
24.

Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) has been designed to compensate _________(a) Error-reporting(b) Error-correction(c) Host and management queries(d) All of the mentioned

Answer» The correct option is (d) All of the mentioned

For explanation: IP by itself does not provide the features of error reporting or error correction. So, to address these issues a network layer protocol called Internet Control Message Protocol is used. ICMP operates over the IP packet to provide error reporting functionality.
25.

During error reporting, ICMP always reports error messages to ________(a) Destination(b) Source(c) Next router(d) Previous router

Answer» The correct answer is (b) Source

Easiest explanation: ICMP notifies the source about the error when an error is detected because the datagram knows information about source and destination IP address. The source can then retransmit the data again or try to correct those errors.

Financial ratio analysis is conducted by four groups of analysts: managers, equity investors, long-term creditors, and short-term creditors. ”. Discuss.

Answer»

Managers- Managers of a company are mainly interested in its performance, since they are responsible for the daily duties carried out. They will, thus, be more interested in operating performance and turnover ratios, which enable them to compare the company's performance across different periods and against competitor companies.

Equity investors- Profitability is the main concern of equity investors. They aim to get maximum returns on their investments. They also seek to find out the ability of a company to pay them dividends. Essentially, they mostly use profitability ratios to find out how capable a company is in generating a good income (Schmidgall, 2003).

Long-term creditors- Since long-term creditors have long-term interest in the finances of a particular company; they hold solvency ratios in high regard (Schmidgall, 2003). Solvency ratios gauge an entity's ability to pay long-term debts and show the financial risks of the company, which make them useful to lenders as they require their long-term debts to be repaid in time.

Short-term creditors- These creditors are more concerned with the ability of the company to pay off the amounts that were lent to them. They are, therefore, more interested in the liquidity of the company. They emphasize on liquidity ratios, which gauge an entity's ability to meet its short-term obligations.
