A solution has 18% of A, 40% of B and the rest is C. If 50% of B is withdrawn and the same amount of solution A is put back into the mixture, the quantity of C would be 160 litres more than the final quantity of A. Find the initial quantity of B in the mixture?1. 15602. 15803. 16804. 1600

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 4 : 1600

Given:

Quantity of A = 18% of total solution

Quantity of B = 40% of total solution

Quantity of C = Total solution – (Total quantity of A and B)

50% of B is withdrawn and the same amount of solution A is put back into the mixture

Initial quantity of C = 160

Calculations:

Let the total solution be 100x

Quantity of A = 100x × 18/100 = 18x

Quantity of B = 100x × 40/100 = 40x

Quantity of C = Total solution – (Total quantity of A and B)

⇒ 100x – (18x + 40x)

⇒ 100x – 58x = 42x

It is given that 50% of B is withdrawn and the same amount of solution A is put back into the

mixture = 50% of B = (50/100) × 40x = 20x

A will be = 18x + 20x = 38x

The quantity of C would be 160 litres more than the final quantity of A

⇒ 42x – 38x = 160

⇒ 4x = 160

⇒ x = 40

Initial quantity of B in the mixture = 40x = 40 × 40 = 1600 litres

Initial quantity of B in the mixture is 1600 litres

Given below are two quantities named I and II. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers. The ratio of boys to girls in a school is 4 : 5. If 45 students from the same school left in the same ratio and 40 new girls joined the school, then the ratio of boys to girls becomes 4 : 9.   Quantity I : What percentage of total students will be boys if 50% of the total number of boys leave the school? Quantity II : 30%  1. Quantity : I > Quantity : II2. Quantity : I ≥ Quantity : II3. Quantity : I

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : Quantity : I < Quantity : II

Let the number of boys = 4x and the number of girls = 5x

If 45 students from the same school leave the school

Then the number of boys left =\(\frac{45\times 4}{9}=20\)

Then the number of girls left =\(\frac{45\times 5}{9}=25\)

According to the question,
\(\frac{{4x - 20}}{{5x - 25 + 40}} = \frac{4}{9} = > \frac{{4x - 20}}{{5x + 15}} = = \frac{4}{9}\)

36x – 180 = 20x +  60

16x = 240

x = 15

the number of boys = 4x = 4 × 15 = 60

and the number of girls = 5x = 5 × 15 = 75

When, 50% of the boys left then the remaining number of boys = 50% of 60 = 30

Total students = 30 + 75 = 105

\(Reqd. \% \frac{30\times 100}{105}=28.57%\)%

What will come in place of question mark (?) in the following number series?18, 21, 27, 39, ?, 111 1. 632. 363. 664. 605. None of these

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : 63

Calculation:

The series follows the following pattern

18 + 3 = 21

21 + 6 = 27

27 + 12 = 39

39 + 24 = 63

63 + 48 = 111

The ratio between the number of students in class I and II is 8 : 5, that between the number of students in class II and III is 3 : 4 and that between the number of students in class III and IV is 7 : 8. If the difference between the number of students in class II and IV is 33, then the number of students in class III is:1. 682. 903. 844. 76

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : 84

Given:

The number of students in class I and II is 8 : 5

The number of students in class II and III is 3 : 4

The number of students in class III and IV is 7 : 8

Difference between the number of students in class II and IV is 33

Calculation:

Let the number of students in class I is 8x

Number of students in class II = 8x × 5/8 = 5x

Number of students in class III = 5x × 4/3 = 20x/3

Number of students in class IV = 20x/3 × 8/7 = 160x/21

160x/21 – 5x = 33

⇒ (160x – 105x)/21 = 33

⇒ 55x/21 = 33

⇒ x = (33 × 21)/55

⇒ x = 12.6

⇒ Number of students in class III = (20 × 12.6)/3 = 84

Number of students in class III is 84

93 × 4 + 4 = 376

Subject  Use of single-use plastics

Sir

I would like to draw your kind attention to the use of plastics that has pervaded in my locality. It is a new locality where one can find big and beautiful buildings. When it was brought into being a few years ago, the municipal authorities had given a word to look into the needs of the residents.

Unfortunately, their promises proved to be mere words. The roads of our locality are littered with polythene bags. The beauty of the entire landscape is lost: During rainy days:

  • drainage gets clogged
  • Though state government has banned single-use plastic in Jan 2019, its use is quite extensive all over the city.

There are no dustbins, people throw the waste material on the roadside.I, therefore, request you to please look into the matter seriously and take steps to curb the menace of plastic overuse. We will be thankful if you address this problem and help us.

Yours sincerely

Seema
