Sir,

Kindly allow me to express through your esteemed paper my views about the need of environment awareness and about pollution hazards. Environmental pollution is a very acute problem facing the modern civilization. All advancements become useless if man does not get necessities of life, i.e. fresh air and pure water. We know that only trees can do this service to man, but man, out of his ignorance, has been destroying trees for fuel and for building houses. Thus he has been destroying his own benefactors; there was a time when 50% of the Indian soil was covered with forests. But man, in his greed, has reduced it to a mere 8% now. Since our government has become aware of the gravity of the situation and it has put a ban on cutting green trees.

Also, various steps have been taken by our government to keep the environment free from pollution. Now more attention is being paid to a forestation. Not only is the unauthorized cutting of trees checked, but planting more and more trees and plants is being encouraged. Besides, scientists are developing methods to minimize the effect of smoke let out by our autos and chimneys. Infect, environmental awareness is a social necessity. It is not only the duty of the government, but also social responsibility of every individual to help in keeping the environment free from pollution. It is a service not only to oneself but also to the entire humanity.

Sir,

I beg to bring to your kind notice about insanitary conditions in our locality. The sweeper does not come regularly. His behaviour is not good. There are heaps of rubbish and night soil here and there. The drains are broken at many places. They are clogged due to rubbish in them. Dirty water is on the road. The streets have become very dirty. It is very difficult even to walk on foot. There is bad smell everywhere. Diseases may break out. Our life is hell here. Please visit our locality some day and see the position yourself. Please look into the matter immediately and do the needful.

Dear Sir,

I would like to draw your kind attention to the insanitary condition of my locality where I live. The locality has become the centre of dirt, refuse and disease. The sweepers are very careless and irregular. Sometimes no sweeper comes for many days and the drains remain dirty. The heaps of refuse are lying here and there. The drains have chocked for want of cleaning. They give out foul smell and mosquitoes and flies breed in them. As a result of all this we fear that any infectious disease may break out any day. I wrote to the Sanitary Inspector drawing his kind attention to this sad condition but with no result.

I, therefore, request you to visit the locality personally and look into the matter and instruct the concerning personnel to see the grievances of us.

Saving Trees

I am here to deliver a speech on “Saving Trees”.

Trees play a significant role in our daily life. Trees provide oxygen. They absorb carbon dioxide, thereby reducing the global warming. They provide food for us and also for forest animals. Trees offer habitation to birds, insects, lichen and fungi. Their trunks provide the hollow cover needed by species such as bats, wood-boring beetles, owls and woodpeckers. They benefit the environment by the way of preventing soil erosion and flooding. They reduce the speed of the wind. They act as natural air conditioners by cooling the roadsides by their shade. They are helpful for children to play in and discover their sense of adventure. They also help in protecting us from the harmful effect of ultra-violet rays. So it is our responsibility to save trees.

Saving Pets

I am, here to deliver a speech on “Saving Pets”.

Saving the life of a pet animal like a dog or a cat is our moral responsibility. There are so many ways in which we can save pets. A person can adopt his pet and encourage his friends and family to adopt pet. Most people don’t realize that they are unknowingly supporting the puppy mill industry when they purchase animals from pet stores or buy a puppy online. A person may talk with the owners of pet stores and ask them to feature homeless pets for adoption instead. We can add an advocacy message in the signature line of our email to help educate people about the issue.

Instead of buying pet animals, we can adopt them. We can use our social networking skills to promote adoptable animals. Most rescue groups need volunteers who can help with a variety of professional services. So as a volunteer, we can save a lot of lives. There are lots of ways to provide assistance without giving a donation. However, donations allow shelters and rescue groups to increase adoptions, promote spay/neuter, create lifesaving programs, educate the public about animal welfare issues, and much more. A person can save lives by fostering homeless animals.

Water is used by us for various purposes. Water is used for drinking. The human body depends on water for survival. Water is used for cooking food too. The water that we need for consuming must be clean, potable water. If humans use dirty or contaminated water for these purposes they can fall sick and die from the diseases. Therefore, for good health we need clean drinking water to be available for our use. Water is also needed for farming. We also use water to maintain personal hygiene. Mother Teresa was bom on 27 August 1910 to Albanian parents in Skopje. Her real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She joined a convent in Ireland in 1928 when she was just a teenager. At 18 years, she was sent to Darjeeling, India. Here, she began teaching in Kolkata Girls’ School in two years time. Later she left teaching to work among the poor in the slums of Kolkatta. She had a “call within the call” to help the poorest of the poor in Kolkata. From 1948, she started working for the downtrodden and sick destitute people. She started an orphanage and schools for poor children.

Her prayers for doing charitable work not only in India but also across the world got answered mysteriously. She begged food for children. She slowly got the support of the surrounding people. She started the missionaries of charity. Hundreds of people were rescued from the jaws of death. For her sincere, dedicated and selfless work, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1979. She was a living legend of mercy. She left for her heavenly abode on 5th September 1997 and was beautified the same year by Pope John Paul II. Her funeral was attended by many world leaders.

Yes, I do. If changes are to be brought in according to the social, political, economic and cultural changes that take place with the passage of time, the Constitution has to be flexible. But at the same time, it should be rigid so as to protect the rights of citizens, the basic structure of the nation, division of powers between the Centre and State, etc. It is not easy to amend a rigid Constitution.
