What is continental drift???? |
Answer» Continental drift is the hypothesis that the Earth\'s continents have moved over geologic time relative to each other, thus appearing to have "drifted" across the ocean bed. The speculation that continents might have \'drifted\' was first put forward by Abraham Ortelius in 1596.

Differentiate between biogeography and physical geography..? |
Answer» Physical\xa0and\xa0Human Geography\xa0is the principal branches of\xa0Geographical\xa0sciences.\xa0Physical geography\xa0is what we are more familiar with as it involves earth\'s land areas, bodies of water, plant life etc. ...\xa0Human geography\xa0is more about people\'s religion, culture and way of life. Under\xa0physical geography\xa0we study the things like mountains, rivers, natural vegetations and animal life, etc. The sub-fields of\xa0physical geography\xa0are landforms, climate, water, soil, etc. Bio-geography\xa0is the study about plants and animals found on the earth\'s surface and in hydrosphere.

Differentiate between systematic approach and regional approach.? |
Answer» A process used to determine the viability of a project or procedure based on the experiential application of clearly defined and repeatable steps and an evaluation of the outcomes. The goal of a\xa0systematic approach\xa0is to identify the most efficient means to generate consistent, optimum results. The\xa0systematic approach\xa0studies only one issue and continues to examine its spatial variations. That means related to different spaces, you study your location. On the other hand, the\xa0regional approach\xa0studies the multiple characteristics after dividing or segmenting the location at hand, on the basis of region.

What subject are studied under physical geography..?? |
Answer» Physical geographers study Earth\'s seasons, climate, atmosphere, soil, streams, landforms, and oceans. Some disciplines within physical geography include\xa0geomorphology, glaciology, pedology, hydrology, climatology, biogeography, and oceanography.\xa0Its\xa0subject matter\xa0is the\xa0physical\xa0and human phenomena that make up the world\'s environments and places. Geographers describe the changing patterns of places in words, maps, and geo-graphics, explain how these patterns come to be, and unravel their meaning.

Describe three stages of formation of planets |
Answer» What is an ecological balance explain<br>The following are considered to be the stages in the development of planets :(i)The stars are the localised lumps of gas within a nebula. The gravitational force within the lumps leads to the formation of a core to the gas cloud and the huge rotating disc of gas and dust develops around the gas core.(ii)In the next stage, the gas cloud starts getting condensed and the matter around the core develops into smallrounded objects. These small-rounded objects by the process of cohesion develop into what is called planetesimals. Larger bodies start forming by collision, and gravitational attraction causes the material to stick together. Planetesimals are a large number of smaller bodies.(iii)In the final stage, these large number of small planetesimals accrete to form a fewer large bodies in the form of planets

Why Narmada and tapi do not form delta?? |
Answer» The reason behind the formation of deltas in the east coast lies in how the peninsular plateau is shaped. The plateau slopes steeply towards the west coast and has a gentle slope towards the eastern side. This results into:short swift streams towards the west coast - due to short course these carry less sediment load and thus do not form deltas. (narmada and tapi are exceptions as they flow in rift valleys )the east flowing rivers cover large distances and deposit their sediments at the coast forming deltas - eg Krishna-Godavari delta, Kaveri delta, etc. With regards to Himalayan rivers, they form large extensive deltas irrespective of whether they flow east or west - Ganga-brahamputra delata in east coast and the Indus river delta in the west coast. These rivers have long courses, flow through soft sedimentary plains thus carrying large amounts of sediments forming massive deltas dwarfing those formed by the peninsular rivers.

Distinguish between core and mental |
Answer» The\xa0crust\xa0is a silicate solid, the\xa0mantle\xa0is a viscous molten rock, the outer\xa0core\xa0is a viscous liquid, and the inner\xa0core\xa0is a dense solid.\xa0The\xa0difference\xa0in temperature in the\xa0mantle\xa0accounts for the density of rocks. ... The\xa0core\xa0consists of extremely hot metal layers instead of rock. Iron and nickel make up the outer section of the\xa0core, while the interior is almost entirely iron. The inner\xa0core\xa0is almost totally solid and shaped like a ball.

How is that knowledge about interior of the earth is based on indirect observation |
Answer» Knowledge of the earth\'s interior is based on indirect observation as it is impossible to collect data regarding the earth\'s interior, we can\'t dig on such a great extent ,as their is intolerable heat deep inside the earth and it is impossible for any organism to survive their.. Therefore the the observation including the earth\'s interior is based on indirect observations like soil exposed on the surface after earthquake or rocks formed after cooling of magma.

Write short note of dencity of earth |
Answer» The density of the Earth is 5.513 g/cm3. This is an average of all of the material on the planet. Water is much less dense than iron, hence an average is needed for ease of use. Earth is the most dense planet in the Solar System; however, if gravitational compression where factored out, the second most dense planet, Mercury, would be more dense.\xa0

Write short note of pressure inside earth |
Answer» When we go inside the earth a pressure is exerted because of the gas particles in the air—like particles of all fluids—are constantly moving and bumping into things, they exert pressure. The pressure exerted by the air in the atmosphere is greater close to Earth\'s surface and decreases as you go higher above the surface. The pressure in the Earth\'s inner core is slightly higher than it is at the boundary between the outer and inner cores: it ranges from about 330 to 360 gigapascals.Pressure also increases in the outer core due in part to the weight of the crust and mantle above. The Earth\'s magnetic field is generated by the outer core.

What are the effect of earthquake? In 80 wards |
Answer» Earthquakes often cause dramatic geomorphological changes, including ground movements—either vertical or horizontal—along geologic fault traces; rising, dropping, and tilting of the ground surface; changes in the flow of groundwater; liquefaction of sandy ground; landslides; and mudflows. The investigation of topographic changes is aided by geodetic measurements, which are made systematically in a number of countries seriously affected by earthquakes.

What is insulation explain the the factor affecting insulation at the the surface of the earth |
Answer» Insolation : The energy received by the earth in the form of waves of short wave-lengths is known as incoming radiation or in short insolation.Factors that influence isolation :1. The amount and the intensity of insolation vary during in a day, in a season and in a year. The major factors that cause these variations in insolation are rotation of the earth on its axis, the angle of inclination of sun\'s rays and the length of the day.2. Other modifying factors are transparency of the atmosphere and the configuration of landmass in terms of its aspects.

Why coriolos force is zero at the equator |
Answer» In physics\xa0Coriolis effect\xa0is a deflection of moving objects when they are viewed in a rotating reference frame In a reference frame with clockwise rotation, the deflection is to the left of the motion of the object; in one with counter-clockwise rotation, the deflection is to the right. The Coriolis effect is the one that makes low pressures rotate anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern. At the equator, the forces cancel each other out. That\'s why the direction of rotation changes between the two hemispheres. The Coriolis effect is greatest at the poles and zero at the equator because of the earth\'s spherical shape. If the surface of the rotating object is flatter, the Coriolis effect will be noticed more.

What is a subcontinent? Why is India called subcontinent? |
Answer» \xa0A place is classed as a subcontinent when it is part of a continent but is considered either geographically or politically as an independent entity or it is smaller than a continent.\xa0\xa0India is often called a subcontinent because it is a distinct landmass, not just a country. While it has many features of a continent, it is not as big as one, so is not considered a continent.\xa0India was once a continent (or at least a very large island). Due to continental drift, India moved north and became part of Asia.\xa0India is now joined with the continent of Asia, but is a distinct area separated by the Himalayas. Originally it was a separate geologic plate, but has collided and merged with Asia.\xa0\xa0Politically, the Indian subcontinent includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Sometimes, the geographical term \'Indian subcontinent\' is used interchangeably with \'South Asia\', although that last term is used typically as a political term and is also used to include Afghanistan.

Ocean waves |
Answer» Waves are oscillatory movements in water, manifested by an alternate rise and fall of the sea surface. In other words, waves are actually the energy, not the water as such, which moves across the ocean surface. Water particles only travel in a small circle as a wave passes. The maximum wave height is determined by the strength of the wind, i.e. how long it blows and the area over which it blows in a single direction. Waves travel because wind pushes the water body in its course while gravity pulls the crests of the waves downward. The falling water pushes the former troughs upward, and the wave moves to a new position. The actual motion of the water beneath the waves is circular. It indicates that things are earned up and forward as the wave approaches, and down and back as it passes.
