Solve : Who is eating up my Internet Data Plan?? |
Answer» This is from dictation. Hello, folks. Again I need help with something that should be easy but it's not. Somebody is using a lot of my Internet data and I don't know who. Besides myself, there are four other people that use the Internet here on my premises. They are all related to me and I don't want to accuse any of them from overuse of the Internet unless there is really some documented proof. But that's not easy. My router will show me the MAC addresses of everybody that has acquired a DC HP assignment. But it does not tell me how much data they have used. I have no idea how to set up my router to log the consumption of each person's data usage. In fact, I don't even know if it's possible with this router. The router is a cable router made by Motorola and it's very, very similar to the standard router used by Comcast. I have talked to Comcast about this issue, but they have not offered any concrete solutions to my problem. Of course, I could move up to unlimited data, but that would almost double the amount of money I have to pay for my Internet. Right now we are paying $66 a month for a Jacobite of data transfer. That should be more than ENOUGH for all of us, you would think. : (But it appears that somebody is leaving something on for hours and hours at a time and not shutting it down. So I am asking, is it some kind of software, firewall or utility that would help me track the usage of each MAC address on my local network? A suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you for any help. Meanwhile, I found this: 11 Best LAN Monitoring Tools Has anybody used any of them ? Will they help me? Hey Geek, Just a thought: if you have an android phone, you might wanna install a network monitoring app such as this one: Network Fling Tools and check out their network monitoring by device capability. Good Luck, maybe someone can recommend you a desktop SOLUTION that they like I have a tracphone with like 180 MB data plan for 90 days. I generally always have my 3G disabled and I rely on HOT spots. But when I am away from a hot spot and need internet I then turn on my 3G. Apps that update trickle away your data plan and I had a weather app burn up my 180MB data plan in 3 weeks with my 3G left enabled when I first got my phone 4 years ago. Additionally the more apps you have that update on a REGULAR basis the more the trickle turns into a garden hose on full blast for flow of consumed data against the plan. So I went through a process of trying out apps to find apps that have less ads and apps that work that use less data, as well as not having so much installed to my phone because I had news apps, weather app, and a forum app that those were burning through data quickly with the advertising being the most damaging because the ads had short clip videos etc. I looked for apps to set permissions on what apps are allowed to use 3G vs WiFi and didnt find anything to set rules for which connection to use. So I have been just using this method of avoiding burning of my data plan. If someone made an app that was a traffic cop setting which apps have permissions to 3G or hot spot wifi they could make a killing on that app by people who have LIMITED plans that dont want their data plan running out like a bucket of water with pin holes in it and more apps the more holes running out the volume. However when trying to think of a way to make an app like this work, it would have to be something that works along the lines of wireshark sniffing to where traffic is outgoing and if the wifi is seen as enabled and the connection method allow all traffic and if 3G is active a rule applies to where a white list needs to be created by the user of what to permit and to blacklist all other traffic. But thats beyond my programming skills. |

Solve : Router Required Factory Reset after 2 years of no issues? |
Answer» Curious if my router could have been targeted. Linksys routers affected by three major issues Maybe it was just corrupt like you said, but this is the first router of many that I have had where a factory reset was needed like this to get it to work again and simple reboot of it didnt clear whatever was keeping it from behaving properly. My password was changed from default and so it shouldn't be vulnerable, but given it is a model that has been targeted before by hackers.... I might replace it although 2 years without any issues until now I suppose is pretty good. Earlier I was looking for vulnerabilities for AC1200 and didnt find anything but when looking at the bottom of the router to see what the label says for Revision info I saw that its actually a EA6100 which then I found the info linked above. You mentioned a few times in the OP that the router "didn't have Internet" I interpreted that literally as the router not having Internet but your computers could all connect to it - If there was absolutely no way to connect to it at all and it had no network presence, then it might be possible that it was frozen through the listed methods. Though, that does have an additional puzzle in that factory resetting shouldn't change anything that would apply to it, either. |

Solve : Extending Wi-Fi Range - Setting Up Mesh Network?? |
Answer» Before I get to my post - here's a fun fact. I knew I'd posted a while back about improving the speed/access inmy old house. I thought I'd take a look-see in case there was any advice that was usable - and REALIZED I posted it almost EXACTLY ten years ago. I bet technology has changed a bit! DEAR Internet: I live in a smallish apartment, but with lots of interference. My cable modem/wireless router is centrally located and gives decent coverage to all rooms. (But it's ancient - I bought it nearly three years ago!!!!!) The interference is messing with my Sonos Connect, which is at the far end of the apartment. I'd like to move my modem/router to that end and plug a CAT5 directly into the Connect; I believe that will fix that problem. But I'm worried that my wi-fi signal will be too weak at the other end of the apartment - where I stream teevee. If I just buy the latest and greatest in new wireless modem router technology, do you think that will do the trick? Or do I need something more? I used those Powerline adapters ten years ago (I don't remember what brand, I think Linksys). I hear setting up a "mesh network" is the bee's knees. Knowing that there will be follow-up questions... What Does Anyone Recommend? Love, BobHave you explored the option of selecting a different wireless channel for your router? That may reduce interference problems with other devices, eliminating the need to move anything?Yeah I've played around a bit - particularly with the channels for Sonos (1, 6, and 11 are the options). If the ethernet over power has worked OK for 10 Years i WOULD get a pair of newer ethernet over power adapters with wireless like these. https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/powerline/tl-wpa8630p/Thanks, I should have been more clear. I've moved since then. I just have the one Netgear router now. |

Solve : HOW TO INTEGRATE 2 MODEM/different ISPs TO A SINGLE COMPUTER?? |
Answer» Hi! I have an issue with my ISP here in our country. The major problem we have is very unstable, slow and constant intermittent/dropping of CONNECTION. I have a single modem from an ISP, however, I needed to have a continuous internet without interruption. I needed this for my homebased job and the only problem is I am constant daily video conferencing with my client and I need an uninterrupted connections. I would like to consider subscribing a backup ISP from another provider/company and switching LAN cables every time I have an issue with my primary ISP is not convenient. |

Solve : Attacks Showing in Routers Security Logs? |
Answer» In the interface of my router WITHIN the security logs it is showing constant vecna scans, ping of deaths, SYN floods, UDP floods and storm of death attacks on my WAN IP consistently. It has been for a longtime now. I have even changed routers at different times but still the issues continue. They are coming from very random different ip's. I am assuming they are probably spoofed. I went through a terrible ordeal a few YEARS ago and my privacy was severely violated by a stalker. It was confirmed as legitimate and was a serious offense. It was a very traumatic experience for me. These attacks may actually be normal and expected. But after you have experienced SOMETHING like what I have it is very hard to ever feel secure again. |

Solve : Ethernet to wifi extender?? |
Answer» GOOD evening, I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Currently I have a desktop PC . I use a tplink usb adapter to get wifi. I live upstairs and the router/WiFi is downstairs. The house has THICK WALLS. There is a WiFi range extender I use but it's in one of the other bedrooms and its not mine. Do you think if I get my own range extender and plug it into a socket OUTSIDE my bedroom door and use an Ethernet CABLE do you think I will get faster internet speed? |

Solve : New laptop won't connect with Ethernet? |
Answer» I RECENTLY purchased an HP 17z laptop and instead of using the wireless feature, I hooked it up directly to the router. The problem is, it sees the ethernet hookup but won't tie to the internet with it. It acts like it wants to hook up with the wireless network (Router) I have. I would rather use the hardwire hookup at home and the wireless away from home. What do I need to do?You need to do network setup in Windows 10. I searched around and found this, let me know what you think. It's after 1 AM and I've had a rough day. I will try to mess with it later. Nothing to think about - it's just basic connectivity and settings info. When you go to Network & Sharing Center, does it SHOW the Ethernet connection? It does show the ethernet connection and I finally got it to connect through the ethernet cable. Don't ask me how I did it. Maybe on of the moderators used the secret CH remote repair tool. But i twas not me. I know nothing about it. Thanks, Geek LOL. |

Solve : Access denied on certain websites? |
Answer» On an HP all in one desktop running Windows 10. GETTING 'access denied' message when ATTEMPTING to GO to certain websites that we have gone to before to make purchases and or payments. Examples are Carnival, Wards, Old Navy. We have swapped out our Spectrum (internet provider) router/modem TWICE in the past two weeks and we can access these sites for a day or two and then it goes back to access denied. Have ran numerous virus and malware scans and a bot scan and all came back clean. Curious if you have TRIED using a different browser other than edge such as Firefox to try to get to these sites and have same results or not? |

Answer» Hello, Any ideas what the problem could be?No, i don't know. But it happens to me, but not EXACTLY the time way. To resolve this issue, will, ,IMO,take more time that what you want to spend. Many have TRIED to find a smart answer. Here is just one of many: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/random-short-ethernet-disconnects.3239434/ Quote What Cat x cable did you run? Should be printed on the cable...and the list goes on and on. Can you explain what you define as an extension lead? seems a little odd it has more than 1 socket. Is it possible the lead is damaged. As it reconnects as soon as you SWAP the socket then it would point to a hardware fault rather than software. |

Solve : Wi-Fi Long Range? |
Answer» "The 802.11 standard provides several distinct radio frequency ranges for use in Wi-FI communications: 900 MHz 2.4 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5 GHz, 5.9 GHz and 60 GHz bands and most WiFi router list two frequencies, usually 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz" this being said can one pickup Wi-Fi from 20 miles away maybe only in the low frequency's? While WiFi can work over long distances like that, it's not the SORT of thing where you'd just be ABLE to pull out a laptop/phone and connect to an access point 20 miles away. These long distance links use high power radios on each end where the radios have line of sight to each other. In a deployment you would usually have a pair of these high power point-to-point radios on top of the buildings to link the two sites together and then within each site you'd have the radio connected to a conventional access point/router that you'd connect your devices to. "The 802.11 standard provides .... can one pickup Wi-Fi from 20 miles away maybe only in the low frequency's?Short answer: No. And No even if. Long answer: All the frequencies are above the HF and VHF bands. Over the horizon propagation is only on HF. For VHF there are some locations that have longer range under special conditions. Any Satellite communication is not part of the 802.11 stuff. Read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line-of-sight_propagation If you really need long range communication, you must get a license from the FCC. It should be obvious why that is needed. I was just comparing to TV uhf which is under 900 mhz depending on channel and I can pick up signal from 80 miles away I know the higher the frequency the less in distance signal travels. I would think watts of power would be a factor also as if wifi was broadcasting at 2g at 10000 watt you could pickup signalTV stations often put their transmitting equipment on a mountain top. This fact alone gives it over four five orders of magnitude advantage,or even more. Also, TV stations are allowed to have effective power levels of over 100,000 watts. And TV stations are subject to intense regulation by the government. If you have a need for long range private data from a remote mobile device, there are companies that provide such services, for a price. Do you have a special need that can not be done over the internet? I found this video very informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdv_uwz3tf4&t=742s Also these are pretty rad: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DCNRTAG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00DCNRTAG&pd_rd_w=cDzzS&pf_rd_p=733540df-430d-45cd-9525-21bc15b0e6cc&pd_rd_wg=8YjFc&pf_rd_r=4H55Y25KJ9FAKRTAP9MZ&pd_rd_r=8f138e60-51b3-11e9-8012-738d1edf946aThe difference between WiFi and TV is that TV signals only need to travel in one direction - from the mast to the receiver. With WiFi the client device has to be able to transmit back to the access point. There is a PRACTICAL limit to how much transmission power you can have in something like a laptop or phone.Fact: The FCC has cracked-down on individuals who think they can circumvent the law. When anyone has any 802.11 device he/she is required to comply with the law even if he/she does not like it or it restricts some kind of fun. The law is extended also to companies that make equipment that can break the law. FCC Imposes $240,000 Fine on Wireless Equipment Provider For Violating Marketing and Authorization Rules Quote On August 26, 2014, the Federal Communications Commission’s (“FCC”) Enforcement Bureau (“Bureau”) released an Order containing a Consent Decree with international equipment importer ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (“ASUSTeK”), wherein ASUSTeK was ordered to pay a $240,000 fine for violating the FCC’s rules and a provision of the Communications Act of 1934 (“Act”) governing the authorization and marketing of radio frequency (“RF”) equipment. See In the Matter Of ASUSTeK Computer Inc., File Nos. EB-SED-14-00013341, EB-SED-13-00008785, Order, DA 14-1044.Notice the above names a major maker of computer stuff. So, just because you can buy it, do not assume it is legal. The above is from a reliable source of legal information. This antenna would do about as good a job as any thing could not sure how one would hook coaxial to phone though would need adapter I assume . It is to bad TV uhf antenna not the same as already have one of those bars are longer. TP513 Yagi WiFi Antenna 2.4GHz 17dBi TP513 Wireless Yagi is ideally suited for directional and multi point 2.4 MHz band applications. This 17dBi 2.4Ghz Outdoor Yagi Antenna offers 24° Vertical and 25° Horizontal Beamwidth. 35 Inch long WiFi Antenna comes with an N-Female pigtail connector and N-Female industry standard connector. The Yagi antenna operates without the need for a grounding in most cases. However, you can ground antenna via the outer conductor of the connector and the cable, or through the mounting hardware. We do, however, recommend you install a lightning surge protector between the Yagi and a device to prevent a lightning strike to the antenna from damaging your device and equipment. Wireless Yagi Antenna TP513 in most cases can not be attached directly to the device (wifi router, signal booster, etc.) without some type of cable converter/adapter. This Antenna has N-Female connector so it will need the cable/converter from N-Female type to [your device connector type], usually some pigtail coax RP-SMA cable connector. Also, you can put amp of some kind or signal booster between device and antenna. The antenna does not come with mast pole mount; it comes with two U-bolts which can be used with the attached plate for pole mounting. It allows horizontal or vertical polarization. The Panel antenna is used to direct the WiFi beam. It will increase the signal/reception in the direction it is pointing. Product description 2400-2483 MHz H-POL or V-POL, 2.4GHz yagi antenna 17dBi outdoor, angle 20, N female Electrical Data: Frequency: 2400-2483 MHz Gain: 17 dBi VSWR:18 dB Max Input Power: 100 W Lightning Protection: DC Ground Mechanical Data: Connector: N Female Dimensions: 35.04in Weight: 1.01 lb Cable Length: 9.45in Antenna Material: Aluminum Alloy Mast Size: Ø40-Ø50mm (not included) Rated Wind Velocity: 210km/h Operating temperature: -40~+65C Is this for non-licensed low-power use? You might want to consider another band. Do not assume the antenna is compliant with legal limits. It depends on a number of factors. If you have not already investigated, check out the rules in your region. Do yu want links about this? If you were using WiFi across a Newtonian vacuum in theoretical perfect alignment between transmitter and receiver then all frequencies could travel an infinite distance without loss. Unfortunately pesky quantum physics says that particles pop in and out of existence in space-time all the time and therefore a perfect vacuum is impossible. Boo quantum physics. Also the ping or delay will be dependent on the distance given by C*m, so as long as you don't mind when the data starts arriving the distance doesn't matter, that is until you factor in the expansion of space-time. As we all know, expansion is accelerating uniformally across the universe from the repulsive gravity of dark energy, so the later you leave it to set up your WiFi system the higher the ping you'll have. If you wait any more than 16 billion years then if the transmitter and receiver are placed any further than a million light-years away from each other then the expansion will be so great that the distance (and therefore ping) will increase faster than than light can travel and so the signal will never arrive, in fact it will only ever get further and further away at a faster and faster rate. Eventually, and now this part is purely theoretical, after all the black holes have evaporated and all that remains are photons and gravitons, distance will have lost all meaning (as it is relative) and the scale of the universe will have effectively been reset, causing a new Aeon or "big bang" and so you will be able to start again with your WiFi system with much more reasonable ping. Hope this helps. The speed of light is about 300, 000 kilometers per second. Lower frequencies permit better penetration of small obstacles. Higher frequencies permit smaller antennas. Radiant emery dissipates with the inverses of the spare of distance. Lon-range microwave communication is regulated by the FCC with a few exceptions. the 802.11 WI-Fi was intended for NEAR range communication without a license. Quote from: Shandy on April 07, 2019, 10:09:21 AM then all frequencies could travel an infinite distance without loss. Don't they have the inverse-square law in your universe? Nothing better than elementary errors in "look how smart I am" tangential diatribes. Quote from: Salmon Trout on April 07, 2019, 03:51:19 PM Don't they have the inverse-square law in your universe? "in theoretical perfect alignment between transmitter and receiver" So yeah, as you point out it's practically impossible, but I wasn't claiming that it was possible. This really boils down to WHETHER space is continuous or granular in nature. It's more a question of the rate of "dilution", if space is continuous, which quantum physics states it is not, then an impossibly tight beam could travel forever. This however is just as impossible as absolute zero temperature is for example and the whole thing is in PRACTICALITY absolutely ridiculous. |

Solve : How can I stop torrents on local network.? |
Answer» I have used over a TB of data this month. And the month is not yet over. It might be somebody hacked my Wi-Fi password. You can see connected clients within your router's admin panels. You can confirm that all the listed host names are a known device. usually, a "hacker" or somebody using your connection without permission would be farther away (eg, a neighbour or wardriver) and would therefore have a low signal strength. That is usually shown in the admin panel LISTING wireless clients. You could utilize QoS features of your rounter and limit bandwidth to systems other than your own. Sometimes you can set them up to record traffic so you can see which hosts/clients are using up outgoing bandwidth. What pops out at me though is that you are directly acting on a vague suspicion, though. The only evidence you have is high Data usage according to your ISP. That doesn't really point at torrents. You don't even know what LAN systems are using that bandwidth. It would take a LOT of torrents to download that much data, and while torrents also seed that data to other systems, typical consumer internet is assymetric and the upload speeds are typically paltry compared to download speeds. You might be able to find the system or device that is consuming the data like that through running Wireshark. https://wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/WLAN Once you have the mac address of the device(s) that are a problem you can throttle them way back using QoS SETTING as BC also mentioned. If your router is able to be flashed with DD-WRT and your familiar with configuring router settings, I would highly suggest that as for it will give you high end router controls in a low cost router. I am using DD-WRT on my routers and have all sorts of QoS rules set. I have Vonage VoIP and had issues with people streaming and downloading causing the phone to cut out. But after QoS configured to give the phone a priority of a slice of bandwidth when in use, the problem went away. (Warning: Flashing a router with DD-WRT will void manufacturer warranty if it has one as well as if you dont pair up the correct flash to the make/model and revision of your router you can turn it into a paperweight.) Thank you both. It is hard to see how I could go over my limit of a terabyte before the end of the month. But Comcast says I have. I spoke with tech support. I have in myu spare parts chest some older routers. Two LINKSYS 54G types. The newer one is a WRT54G v3.1 and already has been flashed for the DD-WRT, I don't remember if it has the QoS stuff in it. I will heck it out. Meanwhile, I am going to block MAC devices that have no name. Is there a way to find the name from the MAC?I would perform a audit of what you have for hardware and write down each devices MAC Address. You can lock out all other devices from connecting to your wifi by making only devices that are approved as part of a WHITE LIST which are given a DHCP lease. If the MAC Address is not added to the routers white list it is then blocked by being black listed. Only way someone could get around this would be if they knew one of the MAC Addresses and cloned their MAC Address on one of their devices to assume one of the approved MAC addresses. But the password should be a strong password that keeps people out as well, so that only approved devices connect to your wifi. https://snaz.com/adding-security-to-your-wifi-network-with-a-mac-white-list/ Quote Procedure to build a MAC whitelist on a DD-WRT router: Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 28, 2019, 01:49:42 PM It is hard to see how I could go over my limit of a terabyte before the end of the month. But Comcast says I have. I spoke with tech support.Ahh- this actually helps. Comcast has been known to wildly inflate data usage numbers, as much as twice or even four times the actual usage. There's been evidence suggesting that from users who have done everything to try to figure out where their bandwidth was being used to the LEVEL of recording all incoming and outgoing traffic and logging the total amount; the Comcast numbers were always excessively higher than the numbers they recorded. In one case, a user even switched to another ISP but decided to pay for a month of Comcast- leaving it entirely disconnected. Somehow his last bill was still right below the bandwidth cap. Strange. A secondary theory is not that they are inflating the numbers, but that they don't BOTHER to make sure the accounts actually match up with the recorded values. That would explain why they are inconsistent, And people aren't likely to grow CONCERNED if they know they downloaded a lot but it only shows a tenth of their bandwidth cap. Wow! Things I never knew. Recently somebody here said that windows 10 can tell yu how mush windows has used. I was shocked. I could not believer how much data has been logged by Windo0ws 10. I checked around and found this: Windows 10 Is Stealing Your Bandwidth... The article is over three years old. Please tell me that is not true. EDIT: Wait, there's more. Comcast go a big black eye when the GCC hist them with a 3 million plus fine for cramming customers bills. Hi Geek, Windows 10 default is to load updates if available from other computers on the local network. This SAVES on internet data. You can use the activity monitor to see how much data windows update is using and where the data is coming from. So windows update needs to have it selected to share updates over the internet. One of the high users of data is the default by u tube to load the next video. Often I find a browser tab playing u tube . Anyway here is the activity of windows update on my computer. Which is 500 gb of updates for April alone. |

Solve : Remote desktop via Hotspot, and no internet access? |
Answer» Sitting and playing with the ABILITY to create a Remote desktop of my Win 10 PC on my iPad over the hotspot. I have installed a VNC server on the PC and a VNC Viewer on the Ipad, put hotspot on and then connected the ipad` to the PC`s hotspot. And it seems to work fine, I can easily control my PC from my Ipad. But when I then remove the network connection to my PC, my VNC connection stops working, even though the Ipad still has connection to the PC via the hotspot. It seems that VNC can't work if it doesn't have the internet, any suggestions to work this out ? |

Solve : I reseted router and dont have computer for solving the set up? |
Answer» Hi guys, i accidentally reseter WiFi router a week ago. I might be able to solve this but i lost my laptop tho and the only thing i have IS my android phone.. I tryed to somehow connect to router and i renamed WiFi, choosed psw and so on.. But it says theres no internet connection when i connect to IT.. I might be dumb but please can someone tell me what to do step by step? 😊😳 If you have forgotten your router's user name or password, you must reset the router to the factory settings to access the configuration utility. You can't update any security settings unless you know the user name and password and can access the router's configuration utility. The above is from a service in the USA. In other countries the details might differ much. So,we need more detail about your router model number. We want to help. Hi WizieCZ You will need the ip address for the Wan port which you can get from the COMPANY who supplies your internet connection, until you get the correct number you won't be able to get an internet connection. |

Solve : Choosing a router with company support and VPN?? |
Answer» I had a NetGear N750 which lasted about 14months. (a gift) Now I need to purchase a replacement and feel totally lost. A basic router for a small home but should have VPN. Reading reviews I shudder at the NUMBER of companies with zero company support. (Experienced that when trying to contact Netgear) Does Linksys have a basic router with VPN (under 125.00) They seem to have a better perspective on customer support. Any suggestions to search for would be greatly appreciated. It's very UNLIKELY that any large hardware manufacturer is going to provide free (useful) telephone support in this day and age i'm afraid. |

Solve : How do I remove a website from the internet if the owner is deceased? |
Answer» My re-enactment group has had multiple websites in the past and now has a new one but our old websites still remain up. The person who took control of them is now dead and we no longer pay anyone to run the websites anymore but they are still working. No one in the group is really amazing with tech and we have no clue how to remove these websites. If its hosted for free and you have a registered domain name then, I am thinking if your unable to contact the web host and have them bring it offline that waiting for the domain name to lapse by not paying to renew it is one WAY to wait for it to go offline when the domain name is no longer registered. |

Solve : USB Redirection (thin client)? |
Answer» Hi, everyone! I believe the redirect settings on the T510 to be correct, as if i set up another rdp connection from the client to another server or even the connection broker (RDS001) , the usb device i have plugged to the client redirects fine. So its just the one server that has this issue then and its local to that server that the issue is from I am gathering from this info. Maybe that one server has something CORRUPT in regards to the redirection functionality. How complicated would it be to rebuild that one server clean to eliminate the possibility that the build of that server is borked to where a rebuild of it clean might fix this issue. I am assuming the other server that works for redirection is exactly the same server OS and patching and security software so your comparing oranges to oranges to pin the issue on just that one server as the culprit. ( Avoided apples to apples because apple makes computers. ) |

Solve : Problems logging into Tenda N300 wireless router? |
Answer» I bought a Tenda N300 wireless router. I have tried the IP address on the router to log into it's homepage. Also I logged into my ATT router to check it. It had a different IP address. I couldn't log in that WAY either. I KNOW the router is working because I logged into the INTERNET through it. I unplug it because there is no password. Do I need to use WPS to connect to the network to be able to log into it?Try using this to login to your N300 router. |

Solve : Could my router be spying on me?? |
Answer» Hi folks, Anyway, strange things have been happening like passwords not working on some websites like as if they been changed, sometimes I log into my mail box and find mail I read last time now appearing as unread and a few other oddities.Web traffic is pretty much completely SSL and HTTPS, particularly logins. Even if we start with the assumption that the router was under malicious control, the web traffic where you log in and view your E-mail could not be inspected to get your password, nor could those communications be changed since they are encrypted entirely to prevent tampering between the client system and the server. The "System Log" information indicates nothing untoward. The IP address is probably because a system connected to the router requested it- it's an ad server so it's going to be pretty common. "Run Manual set APN" likely means a client is connecting- APN is "Access Point Name". Fact is if they were spying, you wouldn't know . Somebody "spying" on your web activity even with full direct access to your PC doesn't want to be detected and isn't going to leave log entries or start changing your passwords one at a time, or log in to your webmail and arbitrarily flag read E-mails as unread again. Quote from: niketathakare on December 26, 2018, 03:11:48 AM This is where they will secretly take down your wifi by flooding it. Interesting. Not sure you could reliably crash a router through wifi traffic pointed at an SSID. Where do people get this crap from? Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 26, 2018, 06:38:50 PM Web traffic is pretty much completely SSL and HTTPS, particularly logins. It's as BC says. If you inspect network traffic anything with end-to-end encryption is garbage without the keys (which are not TRANSMITTED). What's more likely is that you created an account on some fishy domain using your SUPER FAVOURITE username and password and that domain was under control of some nefarious dudes and they used your SUPER FAVOURITE username and password to attempt to login to popular sites. Solve : Slow internet speed when directly connected? |
Answer» I have an interesting question. For some reason my internet speed on my computer is RUNNING slow and has been for a couple months. I'm connected directly to the modem too and I'm not getting much speed. now my roommates computer is running off the wi-fi and hes getting much faster speed. I've done an anti virus check and came back with nothing, and I've also checked for any unusual looking programs but nothing looks out of the ordinary. It seems like something is blocking it on my computer but I don't know what it could be. I tried disconnecting and using the Wi-Fi like my roommate but its still really slow. I can't think of anything else.Give your modem and router a quick reset (that is, turn them off and on again) and see if that helps. Check the other computers in your house to see if their internet is slow, too—if the problem only happens on one computer, the problem is that computer, not your router or modem. Run through these troubleshooting steps to see if it’s a hardware problem. Then, once you fix your router or modem (or replace it), you’ll be browsing SPEEDILY once again. Check out our complete guide to knowing your network for more router tips, too.niketathakare... *censored*? niketathakare... *censored*?at first keep in mind 2 basics thing 1 if u r connected by cable may be the cable got noise on the signals 2 if u connect by wifi and slow chk. the channel may be also have noise if 1-2 are ok then chk. who are with u (also connected ) maybe some one sniff the network Quote from: scott5856 on December 12, 2018, 12:20:48 PM I have an interesting question. Solve : WiFi drops for no reason? |
Answer» I have an Acer Aspire E15 E5-574G-54Y2 with Atheros QCA9377 and Windows 10 Pro. At home I'm connected to my 5Ghz network and everything was running smoothly, but now I'm away for the holidays and when I'm connected to 2.4Ghz networks, the connection suddenly drops for no reason. It won't come back, and I cannot scan any networks (INCLUDING the one I was connected to) unless I go to "Network Connections", right click on the QCA9377 adapter and select "Diagnose", or disable/enable/change driver from the Device Manager. I tried with many drivers, starting from 12.0.0.203 up to 12.0.0.722 (as well as the one from Microsoft) and same problem happens. "allow computer to turn off device to save power" is disabled. Played with various options in the advanced tab in the device manager but same problem. I even tried making a "Network reset" from Windows 10, but problem comes up again after a while. I connected an external Alfa wireless NIC which works perfectly. The same problem occurs in two different networks in different areas, where all my phones/tablets work perfectly. (so this is not a router RELATED problem). Any thoughts on solving this?I'm assuming you've seen this epic thread - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/qualcomm-atheros-ar9485-wifi-disconnects-randomly/bb7fd0ef-455d-4e1e-b973-6632791e0cc3 |

Solve : Pinging broadcast address? |
Answer» Hello Works fantastic!Have you tried? Thanks, Geek I think that's not compatible with Windows but I can look around. I thought it would be possible using Command PromptJust a heads up that it might be as easy as looking in your router to see what leases were given out. There is also logging AVAILABLE in most routers. Looking at connected devices in the router you will see MAC Addresses and the IP Address that was issued to each device. All the devices you have access to you can confirm those MAC addresses against this list. When you see a MAC Address that is unknown you can enter its first 6 hex characters in a google search and get a pretty good idea on the device manufacturer - or - at least the network adapter manufacturer to see what that NIC chip is USED in for devices. The biggest thing is that if you have CONTROL over your router with a strong password then no strangers should be easily connecting to it. They should be locked out so this seems kind of fishy that someone unwanted would be riding in on your WIRELESS connection. Looking for other devices ( nodes ) unknown when connected to a wireless connection is more like something a hacker would do to detect other devices on the network that isn't their own; as for with direct access to router it would all be in plain view as well as password change for wireless to something that isnt in a dictionary should kick out anyone that is unwanted! Many thanks, Dave. I am in my router's software now and will take a look around! |

Solve : Echo dot 3rd gen? |
Answer» We were given one for Christmas and have a Linksys router (WRT110). Our phone connects to it fine but when setting up the Amazon Alexa app, it connects but says bo internet availability. I called support and they say it must have been something I had done and want a one time fee to fix it. First of all, I don't like someone taking over control of my phone or computer. I did it for both and it helped in setting up my anti-virus protection on my PC. Any suggestions on what to do?I find it hard to believe Amazon support is asking for a fee. And I don't know what you mean about "setting up" the Alexa app. There's noting to set up. You simply download the app to your phone and you USE it to help refine the settings on your device. I get to where the Amazon 686 network shows up, connects but states there is no internet available.Did you continue to step 5? The "Amazon 686" network is an access point on the Echo. You connect to it and then you continue setup in the Alexa App to have the Echo connect to your home network. I have 6 Echo device in my home and never did any of that. Simply plugged them in, let them find my home network, and connect. Ditto the app.OK, I'll try that and get back with you. The procedure says I believe to connect with the Amazon xxx app.BC_Programmer, yes, I have done that but will try it again. I may not be doing something right. Allen, which version of Echo Dot do you have, mine is 3rd gen. I have 3 Echo Shows, 1 spot and 2 DOTS (2nd & 3rd gens). They all work the same, it has nothing to do with which generation they are. |
