Solve : internet in a field?

Answer»

Hello, i am a complete novice so be GENTLE with me please.I WANT to take my laptop camping so i will sometimes be a mile or so from anywhere, how can i get connected to the internet, also i have music on my laptop's Deezer playlist's do i NEED to be online to play it. Any help would be appreciated.  Mick.A cellular modem or a TETHER cable between cell phone and computer would allow internet connectivity as long as there is a cell tower in range. Other option is very expensive with portable satellite communication equipment to uplink.

Music if stored locally on the hard drive will play but if its streaming music then you need internet connection.
All of the RVers I hang out with have skipped over using satellite for remote internet due to it's high initial cost as well as monthly cost.   With satellite you are almost assured of being able to access the internet as long as you have a view of the southern sky.  If you're someone that absolutely must have an internet connection and are willing to pay for it, then satellite is the way to go.  HOWEVER, cellular internet has a lower initial cost (still has a monthly cost) and easier setup.  The drawback to cellular is that there are lots of places you could choose to camp where there is no cell tower nearby.  There are antennas and amplifiers you can get to bring in distant towers but even then there are places where there simply is no cellular available, period.

Solve : MSOffice not responding when saving on mapped drive?

Answer»

Someone please help I’ve been having a issue lately with a mapped drive on our sever, what happens is that people have been reporting that ms WORD and ms excel have been not responding while accessing it through a mapped network drive connected to a 2008 server. Once they OPEN it over the mapped drive the file continuously hangs and when they create a file locally and try and save it to the mapped drive it freezes with no response the second they try to save as. I’ve looked everywhere over the internet and have tried so much with no luck whatsoever, but I have DISCOVERED that the only way of fixing this issue temporarily is to create a shortcut on the desktop to the server’s files.. Besides that all I can do is reformat the PC and not even that permanently fixes it since the PC did the issue all over again.

What to know:
-Word is still not responsive in safe mode
-It only happened to 5 – 10 people on a network of 50 or so
-It only happened on Windows 7 Professional
-Running office 2007 professional and standard
-Also happens on 2003
-Mapped drive is connected to 2008 server
-Anti virus is WebRoot Secure Anywhere
-It happens on Pc’s that have not yet been updated (Windows and Office updates)
-Creating shortcuts to drive on desktop fixes it
-Fresh install fixes it (temporarily)
-All other files work ex: JPEG,PDF…

What I’ve done so far:
-Tried windows 2003 instead of 2007
-Tried not installing Webroot after a fresh install
-Disconected and reconnected mapped drive
-removed all add-ins in word
-Did a repair on word and on windows
-Uninstalled word and re-installed it
-Viewed logs and all it said is application did not respond and had no further details
-Tried different drivers for the network Nic
-Uninstalled Compatibility pack for office
-Uninstalled
-Made sure I tried updates Via internet and not only WSUS
- Prevented word from validating by creating registry keys
-disabled windows indexing on PC
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will try respond with as much detail as possible, anything will help. This problem has been driving me crazy and I need to find a solution fast.

How is your network health?

I had a similar issue with users using Office 2003 years ago with data on a 2003 Server. It was found that one of our 3COM switches was having issues. If you perform a persistent ping to the server and then try to open the file or save the file from a work station, do you have any network issues observed with the ping info. Long latency or lost packets etc?

I also had a similar issue with a site that we had a network bridge connection to from the main headquarters where we leased a copper pair from telco and used it to create a point to point DSL connection with up to 4.6mbps and it was dropping out at random intervals. http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Patton-CopperLink-2157-short-haul-modem-4.6-Mbps/1783155.aspx

You stated:

Quote

-It only happened to 5 – 10 people on a network of 50 or so
-It only happened on Windows 7 Professional

Are these systems by chance located in a certain area that all share a network switch where others do not communicate through the same switch etc?

Is there anyone being a bandwidth hog on corporate network causing latency and time outs?

With specific workstations is the problem happening all the time or at random?

Are there other users using Windows 7 Pro with no issues like this?
Hey Dave its been happening random, and there is no one being a network bandwidth hog there all fairly the same. The workstations that are experiencing the problem are scattered throughout the area. We have a total of 5 network closets and I've seen it happen at our main headquarters as well as two different areas that have network closets. And yes there are many people using windows 7 pro that aren't experiencing the issue One suggestion I have is that if all the work stations are all using the same image and systems are alike, swap the system that is FREQUENTLY having this problem with one that isnt and monitor to see if the problem MOVES or remains.

If the problem moves then you know its something wrong with that specific workstation, if the problem remains then its something on the network side that is causing an issue for that specific location.

A more costly way to deal with this would be to set up network and workstation monitoring software and look for hiccups. But this is not very affordable for most, and in the past I have pretty much done pretty well diagnosing network problems by pinging from strategic locations and sending the information from the pings to a log file with date/time stamps to look at further. One affordable tool I did buy was Alert Ping Pro http://www.bestshareware.net/alert-ping.htm which allowed for me to be notified right when problems are detected by having it trigger a program I wrote and compiled as exe which would call me on my cell phone and play an audio track looped for pointing out where problem area is.

One last thing to check would be the event logs of the systems that have had this issue to see if there is anything there that points out any issues. as well as I had an accounting system once that had random issues that I thought was a bug with an accounting program, but it ended up being a 1GB RAM stick that was failing in the 628MB range according to memtest86, and all other programs were not memory hogs and so the system ran fine, but when the memory hog accounting program ran a bug like problem would pop up in regards to a function call. Swapping out the RAM stick after finding it was problematic fixed the issue with that HP SFF Business class workstation.

Thanks for the pointers I will check that out for sure.

Solve : Wi-Fi card suddenly can't connect to home network (but works with others?!)?

Answer»

Hi guys, so recently I've COME into a bit of an issue with my WIFI card. It's a TP-Link 300MBPS PCI-e card, and I had until now been successfully using it on my HOME network (over multiple routers). However, now it will not connect to the home network over WiFi. My computer still works great over Ethernet, but the WiFi network either does not connect at all, or has a limited connection which means I can't do anything. When using my phone as a mobile hotspot, the WiFi works fine!

So the odd thing is, it appears that suddenly there's some incompatibility with my home WiFi network? Is this possible?

I tried uninstalling the card, both physically and in Device Manager, and reinstalling it again, which worked for a short time but then stopped working again.

Please help, thanks guys!Based on the information you have provided, the next logical steps would be:
A. Scan your PC  for any kind of malware.
B. Buy or borrow a another PCI wireless. for comparison.

Such wireless cards  are now very low-cost and TRYING to find the SPECIFIC problem is not worth the time it would take.

Solve : unstable net?

Answer»

Does anyone knows the exact problem for the unstable net CONNECTION? I am quiet familiar with this net stuff but struggling to find the exact solution for this problem. My problem is the "yellow icon" appears frequently saying there is not net connection. Some STRANGE coincidence for this problem are it appears only at night time and is automatically solved after I contact my ISP (through emails). But it reappears after 1 to 2 weeks.

Any SUGGESTION is highly appreciated.

Solve : Locked out of router?

Answer» HELP! I forgot my username and password for the router itself. I have my username and password to access Wi-Fi from my phone but I am unable to log in on my computer to change any SETTINGS. My router is a TRENDnet AC 1750 TEW-812DRU[V2]. Thank you. That should be in the DOCUMENTATION. When you change the password for a router you should write it down in the user MANUAL.
Consult the user manual. Or look on the back on the router.
A hard reset of the router will FORCE all settings back to the default.

Solve : Wired Ethernet connection can't find IP configuration - Help me plz..?

Answer»

Hello all ,

As you can read in the title, I can't connect with my wired Internet connection. The message keeps saying 'Ethernet can't find IP configuration'. Although I am connected to it, it's just says 'limited'.(Doesn't work for my windows 7 & 8.1) - Realtek PCIe FE Family controller

Situation: I live in a new appartement - Got cable PORT to connect with PC - Tried with my neighbour's laptop and worked for him - about 4 other people on this network.

I've been trying to solve this issue for over 6 hours now and I'm so tired and desperate..

Is there anyone who could please help me out?
Thanks in advance x
Go to command shell and run the following commands

IPCONFIG/Release

IPCONFIG/Renew

This will refresh the IP Address lease and grab a new IP lease from DHCP from router .

IPCONFIG/FlushDNS

This will flush the DNS cache

Now try to get to the web etc. If it still doesnt work then run the following:

IPCONFIG/All

and then write down the following info and share it here:

Solve : local web server?

Answer»

Hello

First, Sorry for my bad English writing.
I need some step-by-step guide. I cannot find complete information from internet. Some article learn how to configure web server, how to configure windows, how to install and so on.  I want to create local web server / file server. I am familiar with XAMPP and work with drupal in my PC. But I never access to my web server from other PC in my local network. I have 2 PCS, 2 Laptops and an ADSL modem/router from TP-Link TD-W8901N.
Ok, now, step-by-step, how to install, configure, run and test a local web server?
Note:
I don’t want to people from out of my network (internet) access to my web server

Thanks
Best Method would be to set up the system that is to be the web server with a static IP address.

Then with Apache GO in and CHANGE the httpd.conf file to reflect a port of choice such as 8077.

Now go in and set a firewall exception for Apache with port 8077

Now verify that the web server works at the local system that is hosting it

Now that it works at the local system hosting it go to another system and try to get to the web server via IP address and port such as http://192.168.1.12:8077 where 192.168.1.12 is replaced with whatever IP address your web server is using as a static IP address. Your index.html or home web page should load.

NOTE: Nobody on the Internet will be able to see your private web server because there are no port FORWARDING settings configured on your router. If later you wanted to make the web server accessible from anywhere on the internet you would then have to go in and set a port forward configuration on the router as well as make sure you are using a port that is not blocked by ISP. However XAMPP is configured in such a way that it should really only be used for development offline or private network vs to be used for actual hosting of a real server on the Internet. XAMPP can be security hardened if later you want to do this, but by default its very minimum security to make it easy for developers who are not familiar with how to get it all working, able to get it working but insecure.

XAMPP is the easiest method to getting Apache working etc with Perl or PHP support etc. XAMPP will have Apache installed and you will want to edit the httpd.conf file to change the port from port 80 to like 8077. Reason for this is so that your requests to the local intranet web server connects locally to your server and doesnt try to go out on port 80 outbound to the internet.Hello and thanks
I add "Listen 192.168.1.104:8077" to httpd.conf and no firewall active in my system, Apache is running but stile I cannot access to local server.
Please post a text copy of your httpd.conf file here and I will look it over

Solve : Multiple ports to forward?

Answer»

hey guys.

I want to turn my old computer in to a server that i will use for hosting my own dedicated servers. for my self and some friends for games such as 7days to die, killing floor  and TEAM speak . i know that for each game i want to RUN I'd have to port FORWARD but my router has a limit on a 5 or 6 ports to be forwarded so im LOOKING for a way to forward the range of ports just for the servers on that pc What router are you currently using?  If it is limited in the number of ports that can be forwarded you'll need to work around that, probably by replacing the router to be honest.the default one provided by my ISP the model of router is SKY Hub SR102

Solve : Slow internet speeds(suspucting wiring)?

Answer»

so im getinng poor internet speeds after calling my ISP clubtelco, the tech support said i should be getting alot fater speeds than im getting. ATM im getting about 23ms ping 2.29Mbs DL and 0.87 Mbs UL. After running some tests he said he has to send a guy out to look at the problem and if its on my end its going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Details in short;

slow internet speeds
thinking its wrong wiring
Modem: neatgearD6300
connected via LAN
ADSl2+ service with clubtelco
Tried different modem and wires phone cord and Ethernet cable

I also when under my house and traced the wires to see if i could find a NID of some sort but the phone cable runes straight into the ground

I think it is my wiring can someone please take a look at the attached file and let me know if it is right or wrong please?

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]This is from dictation. There are some errors I did not catch when proff reading.
Let me offer some suggestions. I have been using DSL for many years. I have also had cable modem and at one time, wideband wireless.
The best service I ever had was through the cable modem. But the price is just outside of my comfort zone, so I had to go back to using DSL.
Oftentimes, I have had to call the phone company and complain about my DSL service. A few times. They suggested it might be my indoor wiring. I am quite sure it is not my indoor wiring, although at one time I was going to believe that. Here is why I say that. At one time I had my DSL modem mounted on the back porch, which is also our laundry room. It is a fully enclosed area and has a reliable AC outlet. The phone wires for the house also passed by that area. So if one time I made a connection to the phone wires and passed it through the wall into my house. I haven't the modem directly connected up to the outside line. At that point, and I had a filter that would then seem the rest of the telephone system inside the house. Also, I had a chat  plug on bug the house, telephones. So, this was enough to verify that the house wiring was not interfering with the DSL connection. A common problem is when many wires might have been spliced onto a home telephone system, and you have a wire going somewhere and you forgot about it. In some cases, an extra spliced hooked onto the telephone wiring may interfere with proper operation of the modem. But this is usually a problem only if the wiring is very extensive. But in my case, I am living in a small modular home and know the wiring is not very extensive. Anyway.
So what I'm getting at is that I made arrangements with the wiring myself so I could disable the rest of the house and see what performance increase. I can get. NONE. After using that arrangement for a long period of time. I found it put the modem back in the house, properly installed. With the filters, and noticed that there was not any noticeable difference in the performance or reliability.
When my DSL connection goes down, it goes down badly, suddenly  and severely. There is no evidence that the house wiring had anything to do with this. One would expect a difficulty in the house wiring would have shown itself. by this time. Instead, the only relationship with the DSL quality and any phenomena is the external CONDITIONS. Namely, the telephone company has not replaced the trunk wires from this neighborhood over to their distribution point for many, many years. It is pathetic. The phone company I absolutely refuses to replace those cables in the hope that someday they will go fiber optic. If I were to wait for them to put in fiber optic my., - my beard would grow down to my knees.
Meanwhile, I just keep complaining to the telephone company using the number they recommended. And from there, making tests from their office. I will go outside and disconnect my wiring system at the terminal outside of the house. This way, when they come up with some kind of error, they can't tell me that's my house wiring. From time to time. they have sent out technicians and invariably the problem is with the telephone companies external wiring. Over the months and years they had to switch my line back and forth, LOOKING for a pair on this old decrepit cable that will meet DSL specifications. They have stopped telling me it's my house wiring.
In other words,   I  know how to disconnect a wire. I know that when a wire is disconnected completely, it cannot be the reason for something going wrong. I disconnect all the house wiring and have the modem not even outside the house and the problem is still there. And over the months and years I have used different modems too. I have replace it once.
Here is my conclusion. Some phone companies just to not want to upgrade their old equipment that dates back to almost World War II. They keep thinking someday they're going to have fiber-optic cable in this area. I don't think so. Meanwhile, the cable company would be my option if I could afford it. And that is not just my opinion, this is what other people in the neighborhood are telling me also.
So there is my rant, based principally on my experience, not the fact that I have many years experience test electronic technician.
EDIT: My ISP is AT&T in northern California.
Others have complained also. See here:
http://at-amp-t-dsl-internet-reviews.measuredup.com/3823
Other DSL provide might have better equipment. I don't know.
So basiclly what your saying is that the wiring in the picture is ok and its a problem with the exchange (which btw is only 300m from my house) the reason i thought it was wiring is because iv always had this sort of speed and assumed it was all i could get, but after talking to the tech and him saying i should be getting at least upwards of 10mbs and i only get 2. i just dont want to pay the tech $120 call out fee and $75 for every half hour he is it my house.Ask the Phone company to give you a good connection outside your house. There is nothing magic about telephone wire. If they can bring a good connection to the outside of the r house, you can bring a wire into the house.
In dry weather  you could just put the modem outside your house and tie it right to the phone line. You can then run an ether net cable l into your house through a window. (This is a temporary test to verify the quality of the external line.)

Depending on where you live, you can complain to the Public Utilizes commission of the state. In most areas the law is that you can contract with an independent contractor for  the inside wiring. Outside the house the phone company is not to charge any extra for the service. The law mallows them to change you for work done inside the house, but not outside. You can repair or  replace the indoor wiring yourself.
Check the filters. Lack of a filter  cuts the download speed way down. Discontent the answering machine and the fax machine. Put the filter on the  extensions phones.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DSL_filter
The dual line filter splits the signal for either phone or modem.
You can buy new filters if you suspect that any have burnt out.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=DSL+spliotter&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3ADSL+spliotter
Prices vary from  $1 to $8 for the two-way splitter
Look here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP6IKid4joI
Notice the splitter is called a dual line connector in the video.
You can do it!
juicebox, might we be informed of the Net Speed Tool you are using to get that info?

And are you sure that you are 300 meters from the exchange building?  You are practically on top of that place.  Guess that is very possible, but not usual, I don't think.

Oh yes, key point that caught my eye is you are too early for asking a tech fella/gal to come to your place.  So many things can influence Net speeds and I think you might want to hold up a bit.  Especially as they want you to pay some money and sort of sounds like an open-ended thing, yes?  And that business of 75 smackers per half hour!  Is that really what them tech folks are getting over there in that part of the world these days?

Anyway, I don't recommend you call for that tech fella/gal quite yet.

EDIT:  Now I see the attachment. Thanks for the REPLY michaelnyby im using www.speedtest.net and yes in sure I can practacly see it from my house

Also thank you for the useful advice I will cancell and keep trouble shooting

So does the wiring look right to you? Well, I am not sure what those two little wires are sticking out of that box, if that's your question.

Oh yes, a good question is whether you hear static on your phone line?

When I did the troubleshooting on my line that turned out to be a problem outside that I identified myself and I could hear all sorts of static on the line whenever I made a call or even just picking up the receiver and listening.

But I did have a pretty serious problem and that static may not be so common in many cases.  Still, it is something I remember, so  I ask.Im not sure either... I have a mate who is an electrician and he says its ok but im still not sure.

About the static.. I got my house mate to listen to the line when I called it he said it was ok but i could hear the littlest bit (havnt used a home phone in many years bot sure if its ok or no. Not sure where to go from here though what do you think my next step should be?

I have even gone as far as cleaning each contact and cuting the wire.a ittle shorter to make sure it making a good connection...
just some additional information;

i was curious what another technician would recommend if i called again with the same problem... so i called and the interesting thing is my Line Attenuation is, DL= 75.5db UL= 9.3db Noise margen is, DL= 6.1db UL= 9.3db. based on these figures im 5000m away from the nearest exchange but according to www.adsl2exchanges.com.au Im alot closer than that, have a look; Line of Sight: 395 m Estimated Cable: 652 m Estimated Attenuation: 10 Estimated Maximum Speed: 23000Good gosh, I see that I didn't see.  I didn't see those white lines nor the blue ones.  Now I am really confused.  They don't look like a heavy enough gauge to be electrical, so what those are there for escapes me.

What can you tell us about that arrangement?  Do you know what they are for?  Maybe speaker phone wires?  Alarm system wires?  Although, if you have alarm system wires in a picture on the Net I'd be a tad uncomfortable discussing that.  What else uses low-gauge wires besides communications and alarm systems?

Anyway, I sure wasn't looking closely enough at that image.  Sorry about that, as Agent 86 used to say.I have no idea at all we have owned this house since it was built and never had anything like that installed only thing we used to have is foxtel but that wouldn't have anything to do with it right?
Do you want me to take some more pictures fir you or even a video I can upload to youtube? Now im really confused... I got led to believe that 1 color is 1 phone line... having 2 lines in the house I went to unplug a set of the wores I tryed unplugging the white ones both of them. Picked up the phone and there was no dial tone... so I put then back in place and unplugged the blue pair same thing happened... btw I cancelled the tech coming out Okey-dokey, the italic font means I wrote that before your last post and I'll leave that there while I digest your last post, which does look odd, by the way.  But there are some questions below the italic part that should still be answered.

___I don't think further images posted here will help anyone.  You are the only one that can poke around and find out what those wires are for.  But I get the feeling that your problem with your Net connection isn't related to those wires, if they've been there even while you had good speeds up and down.

I still think you should figure out what those wires are for, though.
___

As for your Net connection, do you have slow speeds at all times of the day and night, or might there be some changes during off-hours?  I SUPPOSE off-hours would be something like 1am to 5am, to be safe.

Not meaning to get personal, but do you have any businesses around your home that may be causing any sort of trouble?  And that's a loaded question, because there are a fair number of things that can cause disruption to a landline connection.  And I am thinking of businesses because you are so close to your exchange buliding.

You've checked your ISP's web information page and saw nothing about them upgrading any equipment or doing maintenance, even if it didn't look like it was related to your own service plan?

And when you talked to that fella on the phone about this, did he ask to get back to you before he answered your question about whether there was any sort of problem at their end? With the slow speeds iv never really noticed until I poked around and my isp said you should be getting alot faster speeds. Iv just had a couple of mates move in recently so I have never noticed the lag until now.

Yes slow speeds are constant all day everyday from 4 people on my network to just me

I live near a couple of schools and a shopping centre but that's all I can really think of if anything else comes to mind ill post it up

I have been in thier web site a fair few times latly and I didn't see anything of the sort

The tech support guy didnt say anything like that when I asked he just said thats why we need to send out a guy to cheak it

I just unplugged the second phone line I help the home phone upto my ear and disconnected wires and the main line did not dissconnect. I unplugged the right wire and the white ones and the left wire on the blue ones no changes to speed sadly
Firstly, put all the wires back the way they were.  Don't want any messing about with the wiring that worked properly before all this.  I mean that worked even if at slow speeds.

Next thing is that fella not having any other department check anything and right off yapping about sending somebody out would be a mighty weird style for this country, but maybe over there something is normal about that.  Might be best to wait a bit and see what some other folks post here about all that.

And you seem to be indicating that the speeds you are getting now have been what you've been getting all along, or did I get that wrong?  So it could be that whatever is the problem has been a problem for a fair bit, yes?

And I don't think I see where you have listed what service plan you have and the listings for speeds for that plan.  Of course, you are not likely to get what the listed speeds are, but sort of close is okay and you do live really close to the exchange building.  So what are you supposed to be getting?

And I think you'd better find the NID.  It's got to be around.  No matter that landline coming from underground, there has to be an NID.  It's a detached house?

EDIT:  And I see that my "over there" was wrong and needs to be phrased "down there" because you folks are south of us.  I thought you were in North America and that's wrong.  Got it.

Solve : Internet Inaccessable Despite Wi-Fi Network Stating It Is Connected, desperately?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm afraid I'm having a horribly annoying problem with my laptop’s Wi-Fi connection and I would be exceedingly grateful if anyone could help me out.

Device Info:
It's a Dell laptop Inspiron N5110 running Windows 7 that I've had for four or five years now without any modifications.
I’m trying to connect to Sky Hub Model SR102, although I believe, as I shall go on to explain, that the fault is primarily in my laptop. Internet also provided by Sky.
Oh, and my Wi-Fi adapter driver is Intel(R) Centrino(R) wireless-N 130.

There are normally two other devices CONNECTED to the network here. My mother’s laptop and smartphone, but after failing to connect properly on my current laptop I dug out my old, buggy laptop from storage and that connects to the router perfectly.

Background Info and Issue:
I've just come home from university for the Christmas holidays. Before I left my laptop's internet was working perfectly, but when I got back and TRIED to connect to the wireless sky hub here - which I’ve connected to several times flawlessly in the past - something went wrong.

It's not that my laptop refuses to connect to the hub at all.
It comes up in the Wireless Network Connection box as being connected to the hub, and in the Network and Sharing Centre it claims that it has a perfect signal, a speed of 72 Mbps, and that the IPv4 has internet.
Occasionally it comes up with the little yellow triangle warning symbol on the wireless connection icon - and when I check it states that the connection to the router is broken - but that symbol tends to vanish pretty quickly by itself.

However, even when it says it’s connected to the internet I can't open any web pages via any web browser. When I try, they either load for ever and ever or, if I try to follow a link, don’t change the page at all but merely change the address in the address bar. When they do, very occasionally, and after several minutes of loading, open a page, it’s in a distorted format and with a 'cannot connect to server' message in the middle. (I’ve been testing it with youtube, as the last thing in my history, so that may just be linked to its homepage banner VIDEO).
While the warning symbol comes up, and it says its connection is broken, the internet doesn't work in any way, and loads the normal 'no connection' pages.

Yet other computers are working fine on this network, and my laptop works OK if I use an Ethernet cable, so I'm guessing it’s a fault in my computer - though of what kind I have no idea. I have not, however, been able to connect it to any other inter source since leaving university, so I suppose it could be a matter of both of them (I’m not especially knowledgeable about computers I’m afraid). My journey back didn't involve the laptop getting smacked about or dropped.

My computer has no manual wireless networking switch, but according to the Windows Mobility Centre Wireless is on. Also, I’ve tried a clean boot and that hasn’t fixed the problem.
A couple of extra pieces of information, if it matters. Whenever I try to get a connection map up my laptop says it can't because elements aren't responding, and every time I try to troubleshoot the internet issue when it does get a rare low warning triangle, not only does it come up with a broken connection warning, it also tells me there was another problem . "The default gateway is not accessible". But it always states that the problem has been solves. It does this every single time I try to diagnose the wireless connection too without there being the warning symbol, but it does not come up with the broken connection problem.

If anyone could help me fix this issue, or even help me find out what the actual problem that's causing it is, I would be utterly overjoyed.

The hub is in an extremely awkward place to connect to with cables, and I can't borrow my mother's laptop for ever.

Thank you eternally in advance. Hi there,

Just to say the instructions below are a workaround for this issue.  I would suggest scanning your laptop for viruses though.  Use either AVG or BitDefender and spyware such as Malwarebytes.

Workaround instructions -

start - control panel - network and internet - network and sharing center - on the left hand pane click on "change adapter settings" - double click on your wireless adapter - click the properties button NOT the wireless properties button - look for the entry that says "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and double click on it - change the radio button from the option "Obtain DNS server address automatically" to "Use the following DNS server addresses" - In the "Preferred DNS Server:" box enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 - click okay and when the box closes click okay on the NEXT box and then close on the wireless network status box.  Restart your Ltop.

Hope this helps,
B10 I meant to say don't worry about the numbers that I have asked you to put in the boxes.  These are Google IP addresses and are free to use.

Cheers,
B10

Solve : Wired and wireless internet not working, and more...?

Answer»

Hi!
Classic problem: internet not working. But I think it is more than "classic".
I have an Acer Asipire 5742-6643 Laptop, and since 2 days, wifi AND wired internet connection isn't working. Windows says that the network I'm conected have internet access. But Google Chrome can't access internet (DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET), Malwarebytes can't update, Internet Explorer crash at startup. BUT Windows Update CAN update, and Bitdefender is ok too  And I can Ping on command prompt

I scanned with Malwarebytes and Karpersky Rescue Disk. No threats

It happen after Bitdefender found a virus in a legit software (Babyware from Paradox). COINCIDENCE

Specs:
Acer Aspire 5742-6643
Windows 7
Intel Core i5-480M

Thanks!!!

P.-S.: English is not my native language. Sorry if I made mistakes

EDIT: New weird thing; Windows Update keeps installing the same update since yesterday (KB954430, about security for Microsoft XML Core Service Pack 2 for x64 CPU). Windows Update's bubble pop to notify a new update, so I accept. After a successful installation, the bubble pop again for the same update. In the update historic, this update appear 5 times!

What's wrong with this laptop?! Help please! Please download MiniToolBox to Desktop and run it.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]The Minitool box log doesn't show any connection. Have you tried re-setting your router? Have you tried a System Restore to a date before this started?System Restore don't work, even with the antivirus disabled  I reset the modem. This has not solved the problem.

But when I ran MiniToolBox, I forget to connect to the network (wired)  So here is a new report!

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]There's something here in the log that doesn't seem correct. Could you please check your Device Manager to see if there are any yellow waring icons.

You are right. There is a warning icon on the Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptater  Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)

I googled and found this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725873(v=ws.10).aspx Should I FOLLOW these steps?Yes, go ahead and GIVE it a try.I unistalled the device and his driver, then install back. The warning icon is gone ("This device is working properly"), but still no internet access  Ok, run the MiniToolbox again and I TAKE another look at the log.Do you want me to run it on WiFi or wired connection?Hi! I ran the MiniToolbox on WiFi and on wired connection.

I suspect the modem to be the source of the problem, because since 2 days internet is slow on almost every device in the house (tablet, SMARTPHONE, PC). I tested with Speedtest.net and I get ping of 1500ms (normal: 30-40ms) and speed of 1.2mb/s (normal: 4-5mb/s). I tested on almost every device. Only one device has a normal speed.

    The modem is a modem-router TP-Link TD-W8960N v1 and it is 3 years old.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]I'm still not seeing any connection on both logs. It must be the modem. Did you reset it?Yes I reset it 2 days ago.is there any chance of trying another computer or laptop on that modem?

Solve : Ways to Boost My Wireless Signal?

    Answer»

I need to boost my wireless Signal
Because of things BEY hound my control, I have done a full disconnect for my local ISP. Now I depend on my neighbor's wireless router to let me have a little bit of INTERNET each day.

But there are bushes and walls between us. So I need to find ways to improve my connection. In Windows 8.1 I get only TWO bars out of  FIVE. I want  three or four.  Even with a larger ANTENNA, it is about same.

I have been read this article.
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372811,00.asp
This information was not enough. The suggest I buy a repeater. No thanks!
But maybe you have some better ideas.I have a limited budget.

Solve : Problems with Home Hard Wire Connection & Wireless Switch on Laptop?

    Answer»

One of my 2 laptops seems to have some problems that cause great inconvenience.

    (1) When I plug my ethernet cable in, it will not detect it and I am forced to stay wireless.  I am unable get a hardwired internet connection.  I can't seem to figure out how to solve this problem.  Very frustrating.

    (2) It seems the main way to turn my laptop wireless switch on and off is to hold down the function key and then press the F3 key.  It only works sometimes!  When it fails to work again and again, rebooting my SYSTEM USUALLY solves this problem.

    (3) There was a time when I would plug in the ethernet cable while my wireless was working.  APPARENTLY, the hardwire connection was functioning but there was no indication of it in the task bar.  I found this out by doing speed tests and realized it was the landline connection and not the wireless that was being used.

Basically, I am trying to get my laptop to work on my home network with the ethernet cable and also trying to get the wireless network switch to do it's job consistently.  The ethernet cable works fine and I can connect WITHOUT a problem on another laptop so it must be a laptop issue and not a home router / internet problem.

    Any suggestions?  THANKS...

    Solve : cmd oops?

    Answer»

    after I had entered

    netsh winsock reset CATALOG

    netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

    netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

into cmd I can no longer use my laptop as a wireless adapter for my xbox 360. when I GO to test connection it stops between "xbox360" and "network." I was wontering if there is a way to get it back to where I can use it again?

my pc is an inspiron n5110 with windows 7. I'm not comptuer SAVVY so I hope I gave enough information.Looks like you reset everything back to default.

You will need to configure it all over again the same way you initially configured for the xbox.

Curious as to why you decided to run these commands?Like I said I am not computer savvy. I thought I was going to fix a pc game but then it just made it so I couldn't connect my xbox to my laptop.

And I don't know how to reconfigure and what needs reconfiguring. Who configured laptop initially to work with xbox?
All I did was plug my xbox into my laptop via ethernet cable and set my internet to SHARE and it worked. but now after doing what I did, it no longer works.

Have you gone back in and set the connection to sharing again?I have checked and it has been on sharing. I had even tried disable sharing and then enabling it again.

I don't know but is there a way to UNDO what I did on cmd?One method that might work is to disable the NIC. Then reboot, then reenable the NIC. Then go in and share it as same as before. No sorry that did not work. bummer.

Solve : Timeouts & Internet Issues (PLEASE READ)?

    Answer»

    Hello Everyone!

So this thread is probably going to have a lot of information on it, but please don't be discouraged, I really, really need help with some issues I've been having and if someone could solve this for me that would be amazing.

So, I've been experiencing timeouts. It seems I get timeouts whenever using some sort of wired connection. If I used an ethernet cable connected to my router, I would get timeouts in several applications such as Minecraft and Teamspeak. If I used Wireless, I was fine. So after lots of troubleshooting, I couldn't find a fix, so I've been using Wireless ever since. Lately however, my wireless has been unusually slow, not for everyone in the house, just for me. So what I did to solve the issue is I setup a D-Link DIR600 in my room to act as a Wireless Access Point. I now get slightly faster speeds and 5 bar connection, rather than the 2/3 bars I was getting previously. Now, I thought I wouldn't get these stupid timeout errors when connecting to this Wireless Access Point, turns out I still do. On Teamspeak for example; I will be talking to people and EVERYTHING will be completely normal, I won't lag or anything, and then BOOM, I get disconnected. As I said, no lag, no warning, I just get disconnected. It's almost as though my router is randomly cutting me off.

So what I thought I'd do was replace my primary router (BoB Lite) with the D-Link DIR600, and then use Wired connection, because I assumed that the BoB Lite was causing the timeout issues. Now, I can't EVEN connect to anything wired. I must have changed a setting when troubleshooting or something. But now I can't source internet from my laptop (ICS), and I can't connect to my original or new router wired. The only way I can currently get internet is by using the DIR600 in my room, but I still get timeouts when using applications such as Minecraft and Teamspeak.

So yeah, multiple issues. Firstly, if I could just solve the timeouts then that would solve everything, I could continue connecting to the modem in my room, and everything would be fine. OR, is there a way I could someone reset all my network settings that I may have messed up when troubleshooting? As I can no longer connect to any modem with a wired connection, not even the DIR600 which could have solved the problem.

If anyone could help me out that would be GREATLY appreciated. This is a really annoying issue and I've tried to troubleshoot it myself for ages now, but with no luck. IF anything in this thread doesn't make sense to you please tell me and I'll gladly explain myself.

Additional/Summarised Information: My primary router is a BoB Lite, my ISP is iiNet. The modem in my room is a D-Link DIR600. I'm using a NetComm N150 USB Adapter to connect to Wi-Fi. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

    Thanks very much,
InnugHad to look up your hardware... never heard of a Bob Lite ... but here it is for others who may also question it: http://www.jackcola.org/2011/08/review-of-iinet-bob-lite-modemrouter/

I'd run a persistent ping from systems in your home to make sure that this issue is in fact with just your one computer. Usually the case is that one person experiences the problem first and others on the same internet connection dont pick up onto the issue RIGHT off due to idle time while a glitch happens or some other reason.

If you run from command prompt:

    ping www.google.com -t

And let it run for about 30 minutes you should see information scrolling showing that its pinging google repeatedly. After about 30 minutes, you can even leave this to run longer if you like, you press CTRL + C to end the persistent ping and you will then see the statistical information collected.

    It would look like this:

    Ping statistics for 74.125.226.83:
        Packets: Sent = 141, Received = 141, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 20ms, Maximum = 121ms, Average = 24ms
    Control-C
    ^C
    C:\>

And you are looking at this info to check for Lost Packets and how many were lost, as well as Minimum, Maximum, and Average Latency measurements.

If you have lots of high latency, you could lose your connection with online services through time-outs which otherwise are not a packet loss. If you have horrible latency such as averaging 200 ms or more, and maximums in the thousands of ms, and this is happening from multiple computers on the same internet connection then you would want to contact your service PROVIDER and have them come and service your setup.

*** Lastly if others on this shared internet connection are downloading or streaming large amounts of data when you are trying to maintain connection to online services, they could be choking off your bandwidth and be the cause of your problems. The solution to this would be to install a router in place that has bandwidth throttling so that your not left with no bandwidth when others are downloading and streaming.

I had to add throttling to my router so that my VoIP phone for example when in use is given a dedicated portion of the available bandwidth in which the phone is given higher priority and so the phone will never malfunction during downloads or streaming of movies etc. Without the throttling is there was a download and someone else streaming and we got a phone call, the phone would act up and the voice would be choppy or we wouldnt hear the person at the other end etc.

From info online the Bob Lite router appears to lack features that would make it easy to configure bandwidth throttling, however you could always add a router after the Bob Lite that everyone then connects to that has bandwidth throttling rules to control who gets what for bandwidth. This adds a small amount of latency, but if the Bob Lite is required for your ISP connection and you need additional features adding an additional router in line that has the ability to set rules can give you the features needed if this is the problem your facing.

If your favorite web site is not available, you might check with other users. Or look on sites like Twitter and Facebook to see if the sites administrators are reporting problems from some kind of DOS or DNS attacks.
Example: GMX, a popular e-mail site, reports they have some kind of problems.

How you noticed more 'server not found' messages lately?  Only web server issues I have seen have been just with the Blizzard gaming servers having issues. They were targeted with a massive DoS attack at the launch of the latest WoD expansion, as well as on top of that they have been consolidating blades to take on the role of multiple prior blades as their membership of customers dwindled following Cataclysm expansion onwards, and instead of having so many blades that were dedicated to realms that were low population in which the blades have excessive CPU idle time, they decided to merge multiple realms that otherwise use to be on dedicated blades to now where each blade was handling as many as 6 realms for the low population realms. They also implemented a cross realm merger which was to pool together people from multiple realms of diminishing subscribers as a means to try to generate more social interaction with other random players. This was a good change for realms that were dead because it meant that you now would cross paths with others in game who may not be on the same realm as you, but you could communicate and assist each other etc. I have heard rumors that with the WoD expansion Blizzard was not prepared to handle the inrush of millions of players coming back to the game and so while there was a DoS attack, I kind of wonder if it was a good reason to take advantage of to put the blame onto the DoS attackers when their infrastructure now being so consolidated now was overloaded because under the model of x-many more millions of players now the blades cant keep up with all the ACTIVITY. I bought game time for the game, but hearing from friends that they have 253 minute wait times in queue to get on and were NUMBER 2673 in queue and this happened for days, i decided to hold off. Today it has been better as for Blizzard likely load balanced better by lighting up some new blades to relieve the load in a server cluster config. But after being off the game for almost a month, I am actually not feeling the need to go back just yet and so my game time will remain unactivated until i feel the need to go back and play

This is the only servers I have seen issues at lately other than CH going down that one day

Solve : Problem with sharing files in local network, WIN VISTA HP/WIN 8.1 PRO?

    Answer»

    Hello,

I've got a major problem with sharing files in my local network, I'll describe everything below. Also sorry if any proper names I WRITE are slightly DIFFERENT but I'm using my OS in Polish and I'm translating everything on the spot.

Currently I'm writing from my PC, which is equipped with Windows VISTA Home Premium 32 bit (SP 2).
    Some details of the hardware:
Proc: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB
(I don't think any more details are necessary, considering the problem)

The other computer mentioned in this topic is my laptop, equipped with Windows 8.1 Pro. I've just bought it. All my systems are legal.
Proc: Intel Pentium 3550M (2 cores, 2.30 GHz, 2 MB cache)
    RAM: 4 GB
(preceeding questions - I've already installed all network drivers)

    I'm using Asus RT-N12E N300 router.

    The problem is:
I bought the router yesterday, I did all the setup stuff correctly, generally there are no problems with connecting computers to the Internet (the network is private, btw). I connected my PC and my laptop to one home network.

The thing is, I wanted to share some files from my PC's hard drive so I don't have to waste years trying to move things around, so I started searching how to do it. I tried so many things that now I'm not quite sure what I've done, but I guess I just connected one device to another and now they're able to see each other in the local network. It's possible to access one of them via the other and likewise, they even have some default shared folders (like Music, Images etc.)

I tried to enable hard drive (not the system one) sharing by accessing properties -> sharing -> advanced settings -> share this folder. Upon clicking on 'permissions', there are no other computers but just the PC - it's impossible to select my laptop and extend permissions. Ignoring that, I just selected that everyone can do everything - access and edit.

When I enter my PC from my laptop, I can see the default shared folders (and I can access them) and I also see the shared D drive, but when I click it, it says that I don't have a permission and that I should contact the owner of the network.

I tried everything possible on my Vista here - I enabled file sharing, I made sure the network is private, I tried to map the network drive (bascially same thing happened), I made sure that password protection is disabled, on both of the computers the accounts have the same name and no password, I also tried sharing a specific folder from that hard drive - with the same result. It seems that the only possibility to share anything is to move stuff to the public folder so I can access it, but I don't want to do it with that lot of files that I have. I NEED to get file sharing to work

About home groups/work groups - as I've read, windows Vista doesn't support home groups, so I can't connect via that. What is interesting, when I wanted to set up a work group on my PC, it turned out that there is an existing one and that I can't make a new one or do anything with the old one, I just don't have such possibility. There is an existing workgroup, called - surprisingly - WORKGROUP, and I think I was able to access it on the laptop but nothing happened. Besides, the computers are seeing each other in the network and allow sharing to some extent, so I'm not sure what is the purpose.

I'm aware that connecting Vista to 8.1 might not be the best or easiest thing to do, but heck, it's technically the same OS, they SHOULD connect at some point, at least I guess so.

I'd be SO grateful for any piece of advice, I'm completely lost and I'm not sure what more I can do. I'm almost sure that I forgot to mention other stuff I did but it was so late and I did so many things at once that I vaguely remember my actions. I'll write more if I remember anything worth mentioning. Thanks in advance!Try disabling the Firewall on the Vista system, and see if the 8.1 system can access the folder then by \\ipaddress\sharename or \\systemname\sharename

I have had before where everything is set up correct but no connection, but then disabling the Firewall on the system that you are attempting to connect to fixing this. Upon knowing that this is the issue then all you have to do is set up an exception for the firewall for this share to work, and then turn firewall back on to have some protection vs none. Some simple rules
Do not share the whole drive.
Shae a 'public' or sheared folders.
Nome work group as MSHOME. It is a home network.
Computers have different names, but same users.
Example: BOB is on every computer as a administrative user. His password is the same on all computers.
All computers use DHCP from the router.
The network setup wizard must me run on every PC in the network.
All computers must hare at least on folder shared to all.

    Sorry, no spekee polisk.

    Geek-9pm

As I've WRITTEN, I've already tried to a specific folder (rather than the whole drive), and it didn't work.
I have also written that I cannot create any new workgroups, or rename the existing one - for some reason, the workgroup on Vista has been automatically created and I can't amend it in any way.

Thanks for trying to help me with the Polish version of the Help, but unfortunately you've linked an article on something completely different Besides, I can easily work with the English one, too. Anyway, I don't need a tutorial on how to create a Network, as I've already done that. I've read all that I had in my system's Help on sharing files between two computers; I did everything the Help told me to do yet it didn't work, that's why I'm asking for help here.

    DaveLembke

I think at some point I've tried disabling Firewall or adding exceptions, but I'm not too sure - I'll try to do this once more, thanks! I'll write as soon as I try this method.

    Sorry I could not help.
There is a rule that you should not share a whole dirve.
But you can work around that.
Windows 7: Shared C Drive but access denied
The above is for Windows  7 and I think it can apply to Windows 8.1 also.

BTW: You can get a legal trail version of Windows 8.1 enterprise e for evaluation.  You get it from the MSN site. It is limited to 90 days.

Solve : Connecting Two Computers Miles Apart?

    Answer»

If I have a COMPUTER at home running and connected to the INTERNET via 8 pin fiber optic cable can I go somewhere far away like a 100 miles and access my computer on a different computer that is also connected to the internet? And if so how how or what would I type in browser to find my computer? Would want to be able find my files.

    Puzzled

JohnIf you mean you want to access your files from another computer, it can be done but it's not easy to SET up.  What you would need would be some SORT of VPN server installed on your network that you can connect to remotely (this is not one of those "hide your browsing activity" type VPNs) and then set up your OS for file sharing.

If you don't want to go through all this, you would be much better off just using something like Dropbox to SYNC files.

Solve : Unable to access certain websites, Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT?

    Answer»

Usually I have no problem accessing websites, but since last week, there are certain websites that I cannot properly.

    Problem Sites:
    1. Facebook
    2. Twitter
    3. Youtube
    4. Blogger
    5. Google Drive

Except all the websites listed above, I have no problem accessing other sites. From the helps I looked from internet, I have tried to flush dns, turn off proxy, turn off firewall, renew IP, but nothing works.

The only things work is CLEARING the browsing history, cookies and caches, then I am able to access the problem sites for a short period of TIME, after that I will GET error of "Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" if I refresh the pages.

My roommates who are also using the same WiFi as me, do not have any problems accessing any websites, even my own Android phone and iPad do not have any problem accessing any websites. The only machine that cannot access the problem sites listed above is my Laptop...

I sincerely hope that somebody can help me to solve this problem, as I really need to access those websites for my academic study.

    Thank You.Two things to try.
    1. Create a NEW user account and try using it.
    2. Beg or borrow an external WI-Fi adapter.
         Turn off the internal adapter.

For ur second suggestion, I have tried my friends external WiFi adapter, but problems remain same: Can access all websites except Facebook, Youtube, Blogger, Twitter, Google Drive.

For ur first suggestion, doesn't get what you mean, which user account are you refer to? Google? Facebook? Twitter? or Computer User Account? You could try a different browser like Firefox and see if that fixes this. Internet Explorer might be corrupt.Mew User Test.
Somewhere, in Control Panel I think, you create a new user for your computer. The new account t wall have a fresh copy of default settings.  It somebody put a a mean trick to filter' some sites, the code would not become part of the new account.
That is only a diagnostic, not a cure.It is to see if the problem is some kind of setting that is specific to the main user.
Alternative method:  You can also check this by during 'safe mode with network' and select administrator.

Solve : Help! Need A "To Do" List: Someone Gained Acesss To My Wireless Network?

    Answer»

I saw a Device On My Network That Was An Unnown Device. I have encryption enabled. I would like recommendations to assure security.

How I Found Out: My Internet started becoming slow. I have 40mb down and 4mb up, Ran Speed test noticed My down was limited to around 4mb. So I checked to see what devices were connected and there was one I was not familiar with. I turned off every wireles card just to make sure and it still showed up when refreshed. So I decided to

    1. rename ssid
    2. change encryption pass
    3. change router pass
    4. enable mac filtering/forwarding

All the windows computers have firewall enabled and I disable any netmeeting or remote acess stuff in the services.
Should I do something else? I know if the person was good enough they could of accessed my computers and accounts.

Do you think I should change all my internet passwords?
Would it be extreme to format all the hard drives?

I get a weird feeling because if you wanted to use internet or download stuff, why not use a open network?

Any help would be appreciated. How many home computers on your wireless network?
What brand of router do you have?

You should already know , bot routers and Windows have cache. Even after something is disconnected, it may still appear in the cache. I am saying this for the benefit of others who read this.

    At the command prompt:
    ipconfig /release
    (wait a bit)
    ipconfig /renew
    Also:
    ipconfig /flushdns

The above will force Windows and the router to forget whatever was using the network. Check later to see of the unknown devices COME back on.
If they do, then you have a significant problem.

Have you done Anti Virus scans?

What other equipment do you have that uses the Wireless?
Printers, TV cast dongles and other gadgets might show as unknown devices.

Here is a recent article that applies to Windows 8 and 8.1 PCs.
    http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/50657-unknown-network-devices-appearing-despite-firewalls.html
Unknown network devices appearing despite firewalls

Disclaimer: This is for informational use. Do NOT download the software that  they offer. Unless somebody else on this forum can  confirm the validity of this LINK.

If you can identify the MAC ADDRESS of this unknown device you can find out pretty quickly what it is.

I ran into a similar SITUATION last year about this time with unknown device. I went crazy trying to find out what it was. I then decided to tackle the issue smarter and figure out the MAC address because the first 6 hex characters are a manufacturer ID for the network adapter ( unless spoofed by a hacker ) and you can look up the hex to see the manufacturer.

In my case the unknown device was found to be a Kindle Fire. AND more interesting of all was that when the Kindle was powered off, it was still connected to WIFI !

Solve : Limit Bandwidth by ip/mac?

    Answer»

    Hi all,
ill keep this short and simple, i just bought a new netgear N6300 modem router and i wanted to know if the is a way to limit the bandwidth on the wireless network via ip adress or mac adess? (programs or 3rd party firmwares or anything like that)

im plugged into the modem via Ethernet in case anyone needs to knowFirst I will guess, then do some research.
You will have to study over the DOCUMENTATION carefully.
    Short answer, No.
Long answer, yes, but not by using IP address.Or MAC

Without looking at  the manual, here is what comes to mind.
The net gear has a way of creating more that one wireless network.
You would create a network for use by Mom and Dad and another network for the
    children.
    OR
A network for the paying customers who by coffee and breakfast.
Another network for those who but a coffee refile and nothing more.

Let the better network have full speed. They can watch You Tube.
The lessor network have BW of 2.2 mega bit. Enough for mail and Facebook.

Of course, the two networks have separate passwords.

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/D6300/D6300_UM_05Nov12.pdf

    EDIT:
I have yet to find the details. I think it is "guest" network.
When you are in the interface, you want to look for the Guest NETWORKING settings. These settings can vary in location from router-to-router, but typically, these settings are found under the "Wireless" settings in the interface or in a dedicated "Guest Network" section.
    See also http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24266/~/how-to-enable-quality-of-service-%28qos%29-on-routers-with-the-genie-user-interfacejason2074,
Good link. I was wrong. You can use the MAC address to CONTROL bandwidth. The OP (original poster) should read over that link given by jason2074.

Solve : internet connection not working when away from home?

    Answer»

I am using a Lenovo laptop using Windows 7 Pro. While I have no problem getting on the internet wirelessly from home with comcast, I can no longer get on internet from other locations which I was able to in the past. I see that I am connected and everything looks good but no internet connection. When I was at my daughter's house who has Verizon FIOS service that I frequently was able to use, I first noticed the issue and we thought it was my daughters fios services. But when that proved to not be the issue, the Verizon Fios service person on the phone ran me through some steps on my laptop, and after visiting SEVERAL places, he ASKED me to check or uncheck something and it worked. When I got back home, the service with comcast worked no problem, but then when I went to another FRIENDS home in Long Island who has Cablevision services the same thing happened like at my daughters house. Everything looked fine and I was connected to his wireless system, but no internet. This same thing happened at another friend's house yesterday, and we tried exploring all of the potential places I may have been directed to by the verizon service guy but I cant remember where he led me to or what he asked me to do to fix the situation (atleast TEMPORARILY at my daughter's house). Help please.

Solve : Problem with the internet on my desktop pc?

    Answer»

So recently I started GETTING this problem with my computer in which my internet in my computer will randomly die. I know that it's not the internet for the whole house because it doesn't go on my phone. So to fix it, I normally right click on the internet icon in the bottom of my screen (I have windows 8.1 by the way) and just click troubleshoot problems and it seems to fix itself after a while. It usually happens when I'm playing a GAME of League of Legends or something, and it can happen several times in one game, so it's quite frustrating. These are some screenshots of what happens when it fixes http://i.gyazo.com/6ab712d6e14216f6c84e112e809bfd27.png http://i.gyazo.com/31de7ae8fd959a58ec6cbebbe8baea99.png http://i.gyazo.com/e6b63cbec30c735a98c59aafaffd6c98.png

If you need any more details on how to solve my problem, just ask and I would be happy to provide them. Please reply ASAP because I would like to have this FIXED for the summer holidays.

Thanks for your help in advance. If this is wireless CONNECTED, I'd try connecting with a cat 5 or cat 6 cable to router and see if the problem is gone.

The one pic that you shared mentioned wifi ... and your wifi could be dropping out. This could be the wireless adapter or router.plz mention if it is a wifi or ethernet connection. and also specify your os
I attempted using an ethernet cable and the problem still happens. So it happens with both wireless and wired connections, and I am using windows 8.1.

Solve : How can I configure Windows 7 and XP to connect wirelessly, for file sharing?

    Answer»

    My computers:-

    * Windows 7 Home PREMIUM in Acer Aspire 5250 laptop - configured to connect wirelessly to the Internet Modem Sagemcom [email protected] 2864, provided by ISP (Bell).

*Windows XP Professional desktop - configured to connect wirelessly using USB Wireless adapter (TP-LINK), to the same Internet Modem provided by the ISP.

The 2 computers connect wirelessly, to the same Internet Modem but independently of each other. My Internet connection is Broadband. Also, the computers are shared by all in the house and there are no separate user accounts or passwords. All have equal access to everything

I need help to configure the 2 computers for file sharing between them. Cable connection is not possible due to geographical considerations. I am new to this, so I need step by step instructions please.

Thank youHello, I would like to help, but I have never done exactly what you want.
You are using TWO separate Wireless routers. -Right?
    To do list:
One one time your did have both computers  connecting via Ethernet.  -Right?
At least one of the computer can switch between the Wireless Provider. -Right?
    Next, but not very good:
You could tie both computers to a 'Cloud'' server on the  Internet. But that is slow, users up your Internet bandwidth and may cost money.
    Better:
Can you  alter or replace at least one of the routers? Some routers will allow two separate wireless links with independent traffic rules.
    Best:
You need to set up an local only WI-Fi that only connects the two computers. Is is possible, but incurs the extra cost of getting two AP routes that can do Ad-Hoc protocol.
That is  are the best I can do. I have never been successful in sting up Ad-Hoc protocol. You have to have the right kind of routers to do that.
This link below helps explain what I mean. Sort of.

Is there a tutorial in this forum on this subject?

Thank youOK. I will try again.
The tutorial is simple/ Just do the Network Wizard again om both computers and rared the instructions.
    You already did that?
You have to do it again.
It works on the third time.
You nave not given a link to any tutorial!

Thanks,Have you even tried the Network Wizard?
That is the key . If you ignore the Network wizard, your are going to miss the point. The tutorial will tell you to do the network wizard.
If both computers get into the internet via the same wireless router, it is all a matter of using the right setting sin the Wizard.
Here is a very good, simple link about the COMMON issues with XP and 7 in a local network configuration.

Solve : Loopback for Cat5 works on older NICs but not a newer Gigabit NIC??

    Answer»

Friend of mine just showed me a strange problem he found. His new computer has a gigabit NIC and the NIC works flawless when connected to the router. When plugging in a loopback to the REALTEK Gigabit NIC it wont link. When using this same loopback on another NIC on another computer it links with no problem.

He made a new loopback and tested it on the older computer with 100mb NIC and it tested fine and then he inserted it into the Gigabit NIC of the new system and once again no uplink, yet you can connect a network cable to this NIC and it will link and work then.

Anyone know why the loopback doesnt work with this NIC? Is there something different with Gigabit NICs to where loopbacks wont work.

I was thinking that maybe it was an issue with FULL duplex vs half duplex, but its not configured for full duplex...   Hey there,

Sorry not had enough time to get a good read at this, but hope this link works for you

http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/en_US/junos14.1/topics/topic-map/ethernet-fast-and-gigabit-loopback-testing.htmlHello Base10... thanks for providing link... I found this same link the other day on google search and it didnt point out anything unfortunately to specifically test for in relation to why this NIC has no problems with a Cat5 cable connection to a switch or router, but yet with a loopback that works perfectly fine in other computers as tested, it doesnt work on his system which is very strange. The only difference is that this network adapter in his computer is 1000mbps ( gigabit ) and with loopback tested against my systems which are 100mbps.Newer NICs (Gigabit type NICs) implement Auto Crossover which automatically configures the NIC to cross the TX and RCV lines when NEEDED.   This may be defeating the loopback.  I would try a cable that connects TX to TX and RCV to RCV instead of crossing them.  http://www.transition.com/pshelp/cross.html

Did some more reading.  For a 10/100 NIC it requires 1 set of TX & RCV lines to be crossed, for a 1000 NIC it requires 2 sets of TX & RCV lines to be crossed.  When your friend made the new cable, did he cross 1 pr or 2?
Thanks strollin .... I made him up a crimped RJ45 with the loopback pinouts that you shared and that did the trick!!!! SWEET!!  Learned something new through this which was unexpected with that a special loopback is needed for gigabit.

Here is the loopbacks I have used with no problem on the 10/100 NICs that didnt work with the Gigabit ( 1000 ) connection.

    Solve : Not sure....?

    Answer»

I'm a nolifer gamer, I have a very expensive PC. Every 10th minute, my internet goes down for just 2 seconds.. Which means I disconnect's from any game im playing, it is very annoying.
This is not an issue with my internet, I was at a lan party at the WoW expansion, and it seem's like I kept disconnecting there too. And they did not. I tried both cable & wireless.
What could I try to do, to fix this? What info do you have to share about this computer? Sounds like a custom build if a gaming rig, so all info you have on the build would be good to share with us all.

A number of things can cause the issue you are having. I had a overclocked system once that would have com hickups, and it wasnt until I brought it back to native clock that the issue disappeared. Later I FOUND out that the hickups were caused by a memory stick that didnt play well with the overclock.

I'd run memtest86 on this system to CHECK for memory issues.

Other things can also cause this issue, but before I post a bunch of guesses... I would liek to get some more info on the system + OS the system is running?Windows 7 .
Processor intel R core TM i5-2500K cpu 3.30 GHZ 3.60 GHz
    8 gb ram
    64-bit

    Network card(S)??..
    Asus pce'n15 11n wireless lan pci-'e card.
    Realtek PCIe GBe Family Controller

Edit: my comp is a little OLD, but its build by my brother.,Is this system running overclocked at all and have you run a memory test on it yet such as memtest86?

Solve : Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) sharing on home network?

    Answer»

    Hello everyone,

This is not a serious problem, but would appreciate your assistance. I have ADE on two computers using W7 and Windows 8.1 respectively.. I would LIKE to have the same reading materials on each. How can I SET them up so that when a book is added to ONE ADE it is automatically added to the second one? Both computers are in the same Home group.

Roxie3852Did you read the FAQ link? with regard to your query?

    4. Books can be copied from one device to another device. If two devices are activated with the same ID, purchased books can be opened on the other device. If the other device is not activated or if it is activated with another ID, a pop up window will appear to ask for ID when opening the purchased books. Borrowed books cannot be opened on another computer regardless its activation status. It is because that the loan token is not copied.

    5. Borrowed books and their loan tokens will be copied when transfer (not copy, this is an ADE feature) them between computer and device (e-reader).

    6. If the PERMISSION limits the books to be viewed on only one device, the copied books will not be able to be opened.

Solve : Am I being DDoSed??

    Answer»

    Hey.

So recently, my connection to my WiFi through my computer has been awful, and OCCASIONALLY through other devices such as my phone. I used to get 40mb/s download speed, and now the max I get on my phone is 8, and it's usually down to about 1.

When I play LoL, my ping can rocket to 20k and make the game quite literally unplayable, and it happens with other GAMES too. So I'm not really sure what's going on. I will be happy to provide any more useful information that is required to find out what's going on, or how to fix it, just tell me what you need to know.

    THANK you,

Jake.I doubt you are being DDoSed, SPEAK to your ISP and see if they can find issues on your line.Okay dokay, thank you for your advice ^^

    Solve : See both networks 192.168 and 10.95 with Server 2008 R2?

    Answer»

    Hi,

I would like to be able to see both the work and public networks from the 2008 R2 Standard server. I have 2 NICs and only using 1. IP is 10.95.60.10 GW 10.95.60.1 . I want to be able to see nodes on public with IPs 192.168.1.29 GW 192.168.1.1 Both have same DNSTrying to figure out what your trying to do EXACTLY.... are you claiming you cant see these systems on both LANs from this server?

ALSO curious as to why 2 gateways from this 2008 server.... its best to just have 1 gateway for outbound traffic. Assuming this is outbound for 2 gateways because both have same DNS, and without tables the server would be confused as to which gateway with dns takes order of PRECEDENCE.  What is it you are using it for?  This link might help; but if you tell us what you are ACTUALLY using it for as well it can also help us give better advice.

If you have a look at the link this might help you with this

Solve : 'Reintroducing' Myself to a Network?

    Answer»

When I CHECKED into this hotel, I had to "register" (for lack of a better word) with the inroom Wi Fi network. The first time I launched the browser, it gave me the option for "regular" or "enhanced" service, for the length of my stay.

I would like to change the level of service, but I can't get back to that initial screen. If I delete the network from Windows' Network and Sharing Center, when I sign back on, it shoots me straight to my HOME page. If I flush DNS, same thing.

What ELSE can I try - other than checking out and checking back in (and even then, I never had to type in my room number, so how would it know if I checked in or not)?
    Some questions.
Where are you? USA? UK? Australia?
    Have you asked the management?
Have you talked to another guest  in the same hotel?
    Have you asked the maid?
Your laptop has a MAC** that identifies it uniquely, so even changing  IP may not help. You need to use another computer.

    ** Quote

A MEDIA access control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on the physical network segment. MAC addresses are used as a network address for most IEEE 802 network technologies, including Ethernet and WiFi.

    USA
No - it's midnight. The desk clerk has no clue.
No - it's midnight. The other guest I know in the hotel looks to me for advice.
No - it's midnight. No maids around. Nor room attendants. And I would bet 1000 bucks they wouldn't no.

I figured it was tied to the MAC but wasn't sure if there was a way to re-force the handshake. You can't borrow another laptop from anybody?
Ask anybody if the have a spare external USB Wi-Fi adapter. Disable the radio in your laptop and install the spare adapter. It will have a separate MAC and that should make the log in start over.
Sadly, I don't know anyone with spare laptops.

Or with spare external Wi Fi adapters (who would carry one of those??!)

I don't have the option to change my MAC address in Device Manager. Any other thoughts? So is the connection good enough? Do you want the Hotel to give you better service or reduce the cots? Either way, ask for it. Hotels in the USA are ripping people off. Tell them you had no idea about the pricing plan for Internet access. That is a legitimate complaint. Economy Hotels give you free Internet. The big ones overcharge. And the charges are seldom reasonable.  The rooms already have cable TV. adding Internet should only add 50 certs a day to the cost of a good room.
    http://www.ibtimes.com/why-do-expensive-hotels-charge-wi-fi-when-cheaper-hotels-dont-1705568
And the Hotels on the East Coast are among the worst for this. Also, if you are in a major chain you can call the 800 number and complain. Even at midnight.

Solve : Printer sharing between XP and Windows 8?

    Answer»

I have a windows 8 laptop, which is part of a network on which there is a desktop running XP 32bit.  The XP machine has a Printer, an HP LaserJet 1009, which I want to access from the windows 8 laptop.  The machines can see each other on the network and ping each other with 0% packet loss.

I click Add Printer on the windows 8 machine.  The windows 8 machine finds the printer on the XP machine, which is set up to be shared on the network.  I click to install it, it can’t find the driver through windows update, so I try again and try to install it manually, selecting Have Disk.  I point the windows 8 machine to the disk drive with the disk in it when prompted to do so, and it gives me a CHOICE of printer drivers to install, including the P1009.  I select the P1009 and it says that the file cannot be found.

I have tried configuring the port manually using the \\computername\sharename format and just about everything I can think of for the past two days and I can’t get a result.  Has anyone had this problem and if so is there a solution?

    Cheers.

What if you try to install the driver first from the CD or from the manufacturing support site first on your Windows 8 laptop, then if successful, manually Add Printer again?Hi, Jason 2074.

I have tried that to no avail.  I went on the HP site and the only downloadable driver is for windows 7 rather than 8, and it doesnt have the P1009 on it.  The P1009 is actually a P1006 in a different shell, so I tried that driver instead.  Still didnt work.  The ANNOYING thing is, this has worked in the past - I dont KNOW whether some windows 8 update from microsoft has done something.  It would surprise me as updates often seem to have unintended consequences, lol.

Cheers.   There is a Windows 8 driver for the particular HP printer model http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&product=3435684I have downloaded this and tried it to no avail.  Im beginning to think at this point that it maybe a deeper issue...OK.

Ive recovered the machine and the driver installed seamlessly.  However, its now saying the printer is in an error state, but that is a different issue which I will sort out myself.

My thanks to Jason 2074 for his suggestions.

FeenixJust curious. Only a wild guess. It is an HP P1009. - Right?
Have you used another printer to see if other printers behave?
If another printer works, it may suggest there is an issue with how the printer interacts with Windows 8.1 and Windows XP.

EDIT: Both HP and MS offer Universal Print Drivers.  They claim this reduces the need for separate drivers of different OS and hardware.
    Microsoft:  Universal Print Driver
    Quote
The Microsoft Universal print driver (Unidrv) is also referred to as the v3 print driver. The topics in this section show how to add minidrivers to Unidrv to support different printer models.
    Maybe that could help.

    Solve : Wifi adapter problem?

    Answer»

    First problem:
I just bought a laptop like two months ago. Everything worked fine for the first week. At the second week, my wifi showed limited access, and I cant connect to the internet. I would need LUCK to get connected. I am very sure it wasn't my modem or router problem, because it was able to connect previously, and other devices have no problem to connect. Maybe it is the built-in network adapter problem?

    Second problem:
I bought a usb network adapter. When it is on battery mode (No charger), and when I leave my laptop there awhile, like 1 minute or more, the wifi connection will show no internet access. It is like the adapter automatically ends the connection. I have uncheck the "allow to turn of this device to save power" and also set to "maximum performance" for the on battery mode, still no good.

Any suggestion? For anything you just bought, you have to use the WARRANTY provision. It is a knon fact that most consumer ELECTRONIC devices can fail even withing days of purchase. The item you bought should have a warranty period of one year.  You mus act  now.

Do not suppose the Wi-Fi adapter is the only problem. Some other part of the computer may have made the Wi-Fi unusable. One example is a defective COMPONENT that generates noise that will interfere with the Wi-Fi. It has been documented.

So you need to contact the vendor or the MANUFACTURE right away.

I agree with using the warranty available. If you want to try to fix this yourself without voiding the warranty, you could create a recovery set for it, and then restore the computer back to factory settings and then see of the wifi then works properly or if its still broken. If still broken then use the warranty for replacement but if fixed, your all set without the hassle of having to get a replacement and having to get personal data off of it before returning it etc.

    Solve : Php and Server?

    Answer»

I am confused about an situtation.Let us suppose that there is a website www.web.com/in.php When a client clicks that link , the server EXECUTES the php code contained in the file in.php and delivers the result produced by the in.php to the client
But let us suppose that client A ACCESSES the website and the server has started executing in.php and in the meantime client B clicks the same link i.e www.web.com/in.php (while server is still PROCESSING A's request, suppose the php code takes a considerable time to execute) then what the server would do??
Will it deliver client B the same result produced by running in.php from A's request or would it run a seperate instance of the in.php for B and deliver its result to B??
But if second case is the TRUE then if the in.php want's to access some database would there not be a deadlock between the two in.php's (running simultaneously because of simultaneous request by A and B), then how the server manages?

    Please help me SOON...

Solve : Emails sent using Datacard not reaching to the receipients?

    Answer»
    Hi

We are using Microsoft Outlook. Our mail server is outsourced. WE are not using MS Exchange.

We are SENDING emails through outlook using our Wi-Fi or broadband connection. Absolutely no problem. All the mails are reaching to the RECIPIENTS.

But if the users send mails using their Data-card (Reliance TATA etc.,),  will never reach to the recipient.

Surprisingly, this mail will be in my sent ITEMS folder.

Not all TIME, but most of the time this will be like this. I  tried with different Data-cards. But same problem.

Some of the important mails were not received by the recipients.

This is happening only in Data-card. If Wi-Fi or LAN, we are not facing this problem.

Regarding this I had a discussion with our Mail service provider, but of no use.

    Thanks

Solve : Streaming from PC to Smart TV?

    Answer»

I am trying to STREAM video from my Gateway all-in-one PC to my Vizio SMART TV. The TV recognizes the PC by its name but it doesn't show any content to be played. You will need to install a media service on that COMPUTER for the TV to detect. Then once DETECTED it should then be able to NAVIGATE though directory tree or user interface depending on what service you use. Content to view would have to be in the supported content formats of the TV, otherwise files will not show or wont play.

If you want to clone your display to the tv for games etc, I would go with a HDMI connection or at the least a VGA connection if supported.

Solve : Router denying Wi-Fi access??

    Answer»

    Hi.
I'm having a little trouble with my router accepting Wi-Fi connected clients at the moment and I'm not sure what is causing the issue.
I don't recall recently changing any settings for my router related specifically to Wi-Fi and it accepts physical connections fine. The only change I MADE recently is to provide IP address reservation for my main desktop on the network, however, my Wi-Fi devices still worked fine after this for a while.

    The router is a TP-Link WR2543ND.

When Wi-Fi devices try and connect I get traffic reports LIKE this:
ID   MAC Address   Current Status            Received Packets   Sent Packets   Configure
    1   5C-95-AE-01-E0-08   STA-ASSOC     333                          2

It looks like my devices are sending multiple HANDSHAKE requests but the router is not responding. Sent packets from the router will remain on 2 or 3 with the received packets increasing over time. Does anyone have a clue to what might be causing this issue, and is there any way to pull a report from this model of router of all the current settings and statistics so that I can share them to locate errors?

Many thanks.I didnt read it all, but im sure the answer is here...

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=hdtBVPrYC5W0yATB7ICADg&url=http://setuprouter.com/router/tp-link/tl-wr2543nd/manual-730.pdf&ved=0CFYQFjAH&usg=AFQjCNHONo3ltlJTQiad6uotqYTGOqmYhQ&sig2=YHJjEFq8oTg3QxFtkqciYQ

Did you possibly turn the 5ghz band on? When I did that with my router, the 2.5ghz stopped working and devices didnt use 5ghz CORRECTLY... maybe check that. Thanks for the reply Kyle, yeah my router only supports singular band transmission as well and that was the first thing I checked. Definitely on 2.4Ghz and also has 802.11 b/g/n protocols enabled. I looked through the manual but found nothing useful. Also I can't find any results on Google of people experiencing similar issues, pretty strange.

I guess I'll have to restore to factory settings and lose all my forwarding/routing settings etc.

    Thanks.I've resolved this issue now.

I was looking through my router settings again and saw that DHCP service was disabled. Without this my Wi-Fi devices can't be automatically assigned an IP address. It's not SOMETHING that I would ever normally disable so must have switched it off by accident. There is probably a lesson to be learned here somewhere.

    Thanks again.

Solve : Free UNLIMITED Internet !!!?

    Answer»

Some days ago one of my friend said that he is able to use internet without any balance deduction (His ISP is using Airtel Ltd. )
I did not believe that it COULD be possible. But yesterday I have seen it with my own eyes (I went to his home and asked him to show me)and it is 100% working. He is having rs 28.54 in his SIM balance and it is not reducing evem after connecting to the internet and disconnecting also (He is not using any data pack). When I asked him how it is possible then he told me that he is doing this as he Airtel has opened port 9200 in his state.I cannot understand what this means and cannot understand how it is possible!!
When I asked him how he is doing this he said that it is a top secret and he WOULD not tell me the procedure.
Please let me know how is it possible and what this opening of ports actually means and why this ISP is offering free internet.

Note : I also have Airtel sim but when I use it to connect to the internet , standard data CHARGES (Rs 0.10  / 10 kB ) is deducted but my friend is using it without spending a single ruppee !!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated
!!! Maybe you should just pay for an internet connection like the rest of the world rather than trying to cheat the system and pushing up costs for other, HONEST users...  But I want to know what "opening of ports" actually means Your friend is lying to you.

I have an app called "Network PLACES" which shows me the computers on my network but I have to enter a username, password & domain. I know my workgroup password and I'm assuming that the domain is my workgroup name but what would the username be? Do I need to change some settings in windows? Good question.
There are are about four ways to share photos and some documents between Android and WIndows.
    A. Using a cloud service such as GOOGLE drive or i Cloud
    B. Using Bluetooth. which is a LITTLE slow for large files.
    C. Transfer files with a micro SD card.
D An app (application) MADE for the job. Search the Google play store for something suitable. I have yet to find one myself. Here is maybe one:

Solve : Can my D-Link DSL 2750U double / also act as a PCI adapter to give Wireless Conn?

    Answer»

    I have the following presently:

    1. an IBM R51 Laptop running Windows XP PROFESSIONAL SP3(32 bit?),

    2. A Dell Alienware Aurora ALX running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and

3.A Dell Inspiron All In One 2020 running Windows 7 Home Basic 32 bit.

All were connected by Ethernet cables via a Wireless Modem given by my Internet Service

Provider - BSNL - Bharath Sanchar Nigham Limited and were working OK.

When the BSNL modem BREATHED its last and BSNL had no spares to give, I bought a new D

Link Wireless 300ADSL2+Router DSL-2750 and connected it to all 3 PCs with Ethernet cables

    as before.

Now my Laptop works both ways - wireless and Ethernet but my Desktops, of course, don't

    connect wireless.

Can I configure my new D Link Wireless 300ADSL2+Router DSL-2750double as a USB Wifi Adapter or should I buy a new USB Wifi Adapter- N Wireless also - If so, which BRAND
BELKIN or Netgear? My local Electronics shop has only Netgear Product available at Rs.740/- (around US$13).You should buy a USB wifi adapter if you prefer to go wireless with your desktop. The Netgear would be commendable. The DLink router acts as your access POINT to any compatible wifi devices.
