Solve : I want to set up a small home network....?

Answer»

I have very crappy knowlege in networking and i would like to set one up in my room with 3 computers...i would like to have a WIRED one....i was just wondering what would i need??? I belive a router of course and some ethernet cords...anything else?Of course, each computer must have a network adapter, i.e. LAN/Ethernet card, installed.  If you have that, ALONG with the router and cables, then you have everything you need.

If you FORESEE a need for WIRELESS, then I suggest you buy a wireless router, which really means one that SUPPORTS both wired and wireless connections.  Otherwise, go with a straight wired router.

I'm not sure with Vista, but sharing the XP files is rather easy.

If it's a folder, or drive: Just right click and SELECT "Sharing and security".

Now, log onto the routers page (put the IP (like 192.168.1.2) in your web browser), and make sure the setting to allow communication through it is on.

As to accessing the Vista files from the XP machine...you'll need to wait for back up.

Hopefully I've helped.I still dont understand how to setup my network. I tried the Sharing and security but i still cant find the folders on my brothers laptop. Quote from: jahuro on October 29, 2007, 12:28:10 AM
I still dont understand how to setup my network. I tried the Sharing and security but i still cant find the folders on my brothers laptop.

Is the router configured for wireless sharing?

I KNOW mine has an option for "Wireless ISOLATION".

Also, have a look at your router configuration (put the Default Gateway address (looks like 198.168.2.2) in your web browser.)

You can find out your default gateway by:

Run (or windows key + r) -> (Type) cmd (Hit enter) -> (Type) ipconfig /all (hit enter)

Have you run the network wizard?

Solve : diffrence between badwidth and speed of a network?

Answer»

any one know the answer to the subject above i cant seem to find anything on the INTERNET

cheers

DaveSounds like a homework questions, so not going to go into too MUCH DETAIL -

Bandwitdth:
Google "define:bandwidth"

Speed of network can be 10, 100, 1000MBPS. This DEPENDS on the router/switch and NIC on pc that is on the network.
The speed will be the lowest of the three for which the machine is connect and what network cables you have used.

If for example the router is 1000MBPS and the NIC(network CARD) on your pc is 100MBPS, the network speed will be 100MBPS - (This is a very basic example of network speed)

Solve : Bluetooth + Wifi?

Answer»

Hey there guys,
Well basically I have had my wireless working flawlessly for about 2 years. However yesterday I installed my bluetooth dongle on to my laptop and now all of a sudden the wireless just wont work on Windows, but yet does on my Ubuntu. From this I know its not a router or hardware problem because like I said its working fine on my Ubuntu.
In WIndows my light on the front of my laptop tells me that the wireless is connected and so does the little icon in the taskbar. However when I try to connect to the Internet either by FIrefox or IE I just get the standard 'Page cannot be found' message. Im thinking that my laptop is now trying to connect to the internet via my Bluetooth.
I think I should mention that it does this even with the Dongle unplugged. The dongle is a Belkin FT8012XX1, and the laptop is XP SP2 and the Wireless card is a Broadcom.
I don't want to uninstall the software, I shouldn't have to, it should just work.
Anyone have ANY solutions?!
Thanks

Chris

I also think its worth MENTIONING that it has done exactly the same with my sisters laptop.
Oh and I forgot that I cant GO on the Belkin website, for some reason it just never loads for me. It's been like that for a good few months, even before I installed the Dongle, though sometimes if I go through a proxy I sometimes can get to it... It should jsut work probably isn't the right attitude to take...but anyway:

What have you got under Network Connections?

(It's on the Control Panel)

Also, can you access the router page, by putting the routers IP in your WEB BROWSER?Hey,
Thanks or the reply but what I did was uninstall it but then reinstall it, but without Networking Capabilities.
Thanks alot anyway

Solve : New router, and i can't connect to it wirelessly?

Answer»

Ok, so here's the deal.  My previous router went bad on me and I bought a lynksys WRT150N home router.  It includes the new N technology, but on the box it says that it is also compatible with wireless g (which is what I am TRYING to connect to it from).

So I run the setup using lynksys' software.  Everything seems to go as planned, it asks me for basic info such as a network name and password and what security level I wanted.  I choose the middle security level which was "less secure, but compatible with more (older) devices"

Next I click the "add a computer" option.  It then prompts me to either connect the computer through a wire, or plug in a flash drive.  So I plug in a flash drive seeing as it is basically impossible to connect the computers through a wire.

So I take the flash drive and plug it into the other computer, it says "checking computer" then tells me that my wireless radio isn't on.  The setup utility has a link that I can click on to show how to turn on the radio for DIFFERENT computers.  However, since mine is not a computer brand (since it's a desktop) and instead is a network adapter that I bought from BELKIN, it has no way of telling me how to turn on my radio.

Needless to say, since it doesn't RECOGNIZE my adapter, it doesn't connect to the network, and then fails to create a "wireless profile."

After this failing, I remember how I got onto the network in the past.  That is: using windows zero configuration to connect, and then entering the encryption key when it prompts me.

With this instance, I can view the network in the listing of available wireless networks as a secure network,  which means that it should prompt me to enter the encryption key when I click connect.  But, it does not.  It merely starts trying to connect to the network, as if it were unsecured. Then it fails to connect.

What do you think I need to do to connect to my network?  Is it a change to a setting on the router or on the  other computer??

please help, and thanks in advance!

PS: windows xp pro for both computers

Solve : USB Wireless Broadband Modem?

Answer»

I connect to the internet on my DESKTOP through my Verizon Novatel 720 USB Wireless Broadband Modem. It works just like a dial up modem except at broadband like speed. The drivers for the modem appear in device manager under the modem category (Novatel Wireless Expedite EV-DO Modem). I can connect to the internet through the VZAccess manager software that came with the 720 USB modem or I can set it up to connect as a regular Dial up connection. I would like to share this connection with the other computer on my home network. For my home network I use the Trendnet 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless Firewall ROUTER (TEW-432BRP) and some of my computer are connected wired and WIRELESSLY. I can share files with other computer on my home network but how can I share my USB broadband connection?

Home network set up

•   Desktop running Windows Vista Home premium, internet connection through 720 USB modem, Network (LAN) wired to the Trendnet Wireless Router.

•   Laptop running Windows Vista Home premium, Network (LAN) wirelessly connected to the Trendnet Wireless Router.

•   Desktop running Windows XP Pro, Network (LAN) wired to the Trendnet Wireless Router.

Solve : Detecting bad network connections?

Answer»

Hello all,
Here is my problem. I am running Access 2003 front end and back end (it's a split db). I have as many as 12 connections to the db at any one time. The db keeps deleting records and I have been told it could be due to bad connections, faulty interface cards, bad or faulty hubs and switches. I am looking for recommendations on software and or hardware that I can use to track down the problem. This problem has just started within the past month. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.ftp://Well, that's quite a widespread problem, could be a million things. Gonna need a lot more information.

You could start with some loop backs and cable TESTERS. Loops will help with testing the INDIVIDUAL cards, a cable tester will let you... you guessed it... test cables.

It seems the loss isn't 100% of the time, so as you're testing cables, work down the cable... kinda massaging it.  If there's a problem or a break, it should show on the cable tester.

Before giving much more advice than that, we'd need to know the network setup, OSs, makes and models of the equipment... everything you can provide, there's never too much information. My setup is as follows:
1 server hp Proliant ML370 with 2 GB memory and raid 5 consisting of 3 72gb drives running MS Small Business Server 2003. With Exchange running, ISA 2004, the hole ball of wax.
1 Linksys EF2124 24 port switch
1 3Com switch 12 port for printers, scanners and other network devicesSorry about that hit wrong key. to continue:
3 hand built computers using MSI motherboards with AMD processors. All running Windows XP pro. these machines are all running on INTEGRATED NICs. They have the most uptodate drivers I could find.
8 Dell computers Each running off internal NICs. They have a COMBINATION of AMD and Intel processors 5 are running Windows 2000Pro the other 3 are running Windows XP Pro.
2 Hand built computers running Windows 2000 server housing only electronicly scanned files. These have AMD processors.
The oldest machines are the 2 hand built servers they are about 4 years old.
My database is housed on a hand built machine with a Asus MB and an AMD processor with 512 MB of memory. Running Windows XP PRO. This machine has a 3Com PCI NIC card.
If there is more info you need please let me know.
Before moving to Access 2k3 the back end was running in Access 97 and the frontends were Access 2000.Every thing was A OK wiht this set up but then I hit the 1GB barrier of Access97 and had to move to newer version. Everything upgraded really well, all processes seemed to work ok. Had a couple of complie errors but FIXED them and recompl\iled with no errors. Then the deletions started. And that as they say is the rest of the story. I hope you can give em some guidence on this.

Again thnaks for your assistance.

Solve : Default Gateway Offline?

Answer»

Hey,
I've been having trouble browsing the internet and connecting to MSN. So far it seems that search engines won't open. And windows live messenger says my default gateway is offline...I called my ISP a little while ago, as web browsing was entirely down too, they told me to uninstall my network adapter driver, and to REBOOT the computer. After doing so, some webpages were WORKING, but im still having trouble with MSN. Any suggestions? How is your computer connected to the internet? Do you use a router?

Also what OS are you running?

If UR Using dial-up-connection
open your computer and take the PCI card out that has an RJ45 port on it. unless its on board (intergrated on the motherboard)

if so then you can disable it in Device Manager

right click My Computer
Properties
Hardware tab
Device Manager
expand Network Adapters
right click the adapter
click Disable

Solve : Wireless IP question?

Answer»

Hello, I want to change my old ip ADDRESS into a new one, but I did try ipconfig/renew in cmd and it don't work, and I am sharing my wireless, I am not the owner of it, what can I do ? Thanks for your time! Some information about your computer would be useful, what operating system are you using?

Ask the owner of the Wireless IP if they can change it for you.DHCP.
The DHCP server assigns IPs from the pool. The IP is leased for a PERIOD of time. If you open the computer in that period of time, the same IP will remain assigned to your computer (in fact, to your network adapter represented by a certain MAC address). If a small number of computers are connected to that router, there are big chances that the same IP REMAINS allocated to the same computer (for example, my computer has the IP 192.168.100.2 for almost 2 years in a network of 2 computers).
Why do you want to change your IP? I mean your LOCAL IP?I just don't LIKE it, I want a new one, something with gaming and thanks for the help. happy halloween!

Solve : Using USB HDD as Network HDD?

Answer»

Hello,

I am ASKING anybody here if they know how to possibly make a USB Hard Drive work on a Print Server/Switch. I can't imagine why you technically couldn't. The Print Server/Switch I have has a USB port, which is what my USB hard drive uses for connectivity, and the USB hard drive is powered with it's own power cord, so it won't have to rely on the Print Server/Switch for power. This Print Server/Switch is usually used for my network printer, but I want to TRY to make it work for my USB hard drive to make it a network drive.

If I am unable to do what I want done above, is there some kind of adapter I can use to take my USB cord and PLUG it into my router to make it a network drive? Maybe a USB to Network Cord adapter of some sort?

Thanks for your HELP,
DonWhat brand/model is the print server?

Solve : Netwrking problems?

Answer»

I have a home network with 4 computers on it. 3 computers are hard wired to a router and the fourth (LAPTOP) is wireless. all use the same router.
COMPUTER A can not see any of the other computers. It can use a shared printer on another computer.

Computers B, C, and D all are working fine, and they see the shared files on Computer A, and the can use the printer connected to computer A.

Why is Computer A not seeing the other computer's files? OK we need more info:
What OS' are the computers?
Are you working with a workgroup?

Jonas I am using XP home and the workgroup name is the same.Sow you're all using XP home SP2?
What firewalls are you using?
MAKE sure network detection is enabled in the firewall settings.

Jonas How do you TRY to see the other computers?
Is a "NAMING service" on your LAN? If not, maybe you should create some records in the hosts file, on every computer (I will have to read a bit about Windows naming services, I can't help you more now).Uh, are B, C and D setup with shared files?

Solve : WPA?

Answer»

I have a five-year-old ROUTER with four computers running on it (THREE are wireless).  The router is a linksys WRT54G version 1.02.0.  I have been trying to enable WPA on it and the router has the option LISTED under the wireless security section.  At first, the computers are able to connect to the network, but after about ten minutes none of the computers are able to connect.  Does anyone know why this is?  Should I get a better router? Are you using AES ENCRYPTION or TKIP?  Whichever it is, try switching it to the other one and post back with any difference that makes.

Solve : Shared internet problem?

Answer»

At my apartment complex, they PROVIDE internet that is a DSL line shared between 5-10 different apartments.  Needless to say that at times it is terrible to try and get anything done.  I was wondering if there was any way that i could force a certain amount of bandwidth to my computer from the other apartments.  There is no limit set separate apartments.  Thanks. My advice: talk with ISP provider and ask for a better agreement (larger bandwidth guaranteed).
Other point of view: from your ROUTER you MAY try to "RESERVE" a part of WAN bandwidth. It is a viable option IF your router supports this - I mean the router at which all of you are connected and you will have a *censored* of a time with your neighbors when they will find about your "trick".

I advise you to get a better contract with your ISP or to get a personal contract (you will be "alone" on your line).

Solve : problem with subnet mask?

Answer» HELLO i have a PC (with windows XP pro sp2).i use internet by a DSL modem and i connected modem to PC by a network cable and when i turn on modem the PC connect to DSL ISP by modem and  get IP automatically from ISP and for example:
ip:1.202.100.120 SUBNET mask is:255.255.255.0 and gatway is:1.202.100.1 and i use DYNAMIC ip for internet like:86.120.65.84
but i installed ESET smart security and it's firewall changed my networking configuration and i lost my internet connection and ISP connection then i uninstalled ESET smart security but my previous network configuration did not comeback.
now i turn on the modem for connect to ISP ,it can not get a IP from ISP for me nad i receive this ERROR( Limited or no connectivity) when i check details of this network
i see in this my IP is:169,254,120,100 and my subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 and my gateway is my IP .i know it that my subnet mask must be 255.255.255.0 but this is not i can not configure TCP/IP setting manually because it must be auto from my ISP
how i can fix this problem .how i can reset all IP setting that stored in windows how i can set 255.255.255.0 for my connection subnet that in another time dont change to 255.255.0.0
help me please
thank you very much
Not entirely sure this will work, but try this:

-Click on the start menu and  click "Run"
-Type cmd and hit enter
-type ipconfig /release
-power modem off for a minute or so
-in the cmd box, type ipconfig /renew

Hopefully this will obtain an IP address from your ISP and get you connected again.thank you
but it do not work i used it before even this command(netsh int ip reset reset.txt) too
and they do not  work
my problem is here how i can reset or clear all TCP/IP configuration on windows perfectly !
you may reinstall network card drivers.
Why do you stop/start the modem?
Are you sure that ESET smart security caused all the trouble?

If you received IP automatically and now you don't, you don't have to mangle with IP settings. If its IP is 169.254.x.x (by the way, for this IP the subnet mask is fine, 255.255.0.0) than the computer is not able to communicate with the DHCP server. Maybe it is a problem with your network cable. If you checked the network cable, you may try with a laptop/another computer to see if works fine (if your ISP has a MAC filtering policy, my last idea will not work).
To see if it is Windows/network card drivers to blame, you may check with an alternative operating system like Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) or Knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html).

Solve : lag spikes in vista during games?

Answer»

im having severe lag spikes while i PLAY online GAMES. however, i do recall having this same problem in xp a while back. when i ran xp, i had to disable the microsoft program that was finding networks, the wireless connection zero program (or something like that). my spikes occur about every 60 seconds to 90 seconds. i now run vista 32bit home prem and dont know how to fix this SINCE vista does not use it.

i did google the problem and came to this: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-networking-sharing/72358-vista-wireless-network-lag-spikes-2.html

however, i did not understand the last post where they found the solution since i have different hardware. i am using the linksys wrt54gs v2 and the wusb54g v2. the adapter (wusb54g) has worked for many years until now, so im pretty sure its a vista problem. my internet totally fine except when i play games, and thats really annoying.... i called up linksys and they told me to CHANGE my mtu size to 1400, however, it only worked for a few HOURS then i started lagging again....

Solve : Broadband.. troubling question.?

Answer»

Hey guys! Me again!

OK here goes.. I'll try to keep this short but with full detail!

I have a property in a very remote area. This property currently has a 56k internet connection with dialup MODEMS, cables and whatnot!

I want to upgrade this property to a broadband connection (that MIGHT not make sense if you are from the USA) not sure <- anyways a faster internet connection lol. ie wireless/router/etc etc..

If I went out and bought a wireless router and modem, then purchased the connection from my ISP and set it up, would it WORK at the speed of the connection purchased or would it work at the speed of the 56k and be a waste of money?
I'm pretty sure that has to do with the phone line going to the property?

Thanks.

Psy
Hello again, Psy!

Your ISP should be able to tell you the area covered by broadband and whether or not your property is within that area. If you ISP doesn't know, try the phone company.

If you're within the coverage area, it should be fine.thanks for the quick reply m8! ....but if it's not then there is no way of getting broadband?this is what they said:
Quote

We've just tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband and we can confirm that you will be able to reach a maximum download speed of 0.5 (Megabits per second).

Download speeds are dependent on a number of factors such as the distance between your telephone exchange to your house or how many people are using broadband at the same time. BT Total Broadband will always give you the maximum download speed available to your line based on these factors.

does that mean that i can only get 500kbps? not the best. as that is less than 1MB connection:(

would it be worth it?Sorry for the delay. I'm not feeling well and I've been laying down most of the morning.

Since they say you're in the coverage area, you should be fine. 512kbps is better than 56kbps. It won't be the fastest internet in the world, but you will DEFINITELY see the difference over dial-up. If that's all you can get there and the price is reasonable, I'd go ahead. I don't know what other options you have in the UK as far as internet goes. There's satellite, but judging by Britain's usual weather, I wouldn't recommend that. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well m8.

lol!  it is true about the weather!... ok I'll see what I can do with it.. I wish they could provide a better speed in my area!. Going from 20MB/s in my temorary house to 512KB/s in my usual one really does suck lol..
Thanks for your HELP quaxo m8.

Solve : security encryption?

Answer»

how do i encrypt my wirelss router for security so that outsiders cannot access?
i have TRIED the website for Belkin, but it will not sucessfully give the site. There should be an IP address on the acutal router, wack that in your browser, and then enter the user name/password ALSO found on the router.

If that IP doesn't WORK, FIND your default GATEWAY.  (Start -> Run -> (type) CMD -> (Type) ipconfig /all

Then on there should be some options for wireless security.

Now...do your own homework next time.

Solve : Help connecting new Laptop?

Answer»

Hi, my sister got a new laptop (Advent 9115)
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/805721

with Wireless Lan b/g whatever that means, does this mean it should be able to connect to any wireless networls in range or does the laptop need an adapter? Does anything need to be installed?

As it is, it's not working and gives the error message (on Vista) "The network adapter "Local Area Connection" is not correctly configured to use the Ip protocol"

"The network adapter "Local Area Connection" is experiencing driver or hardware related ISSUES"

Then SOMETHING about making sure your IPC settings are correct and making sure Versions 4 and 6 TCP/IP are selected (they are).

Also there is an icon in the bottom left corner blacked out ""ralink wireless lan card" not exist" - not sure about that.

No, you don't need an adapter, that's what the Wireless LAN is.

b/g are the two WiFi Protocols, so yes, once it's configured and working, you'll be able to connect to wireless networks.

Sounds like the driver isn't installed correctly.  Have you got the latest VISTA driver?

I don't KNOW Vista, but in XP you can right click on a network connection (under CONTROL panel) and SELECT "Properties", and then (scroll down) to select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".  Then push the "Properties" Button.  Just make sure the circles for "obtain automatically" are checked.

Hopefully, it'll be very similar under Vista, but as I said, I'm not sure.

If your still having trouble, come back.

Solve : How to increase my share of bandwidth.?

Answer»

I am on my dorm's network.  I remember reading that it is possible to "reserve" a specific amount of bandwidth, but I do not recall where.  My connection is at a crawl during peak hours and it is very hard to get anything done.  Does anyone know of anything to do to increase speeds?Go to Control Panel. Click on 'Network and Internet Connections', click on 'Network Connections', right click on the internet connection you want to speed up, and click on Properties. Under the general tab, disable everything except "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".

Of course, if you are on a network, don't attempt this.

Dorm means domain, right? Sorry, I don't know what you MEAN by "dorm".Ask for a different agreement from your ISP provider. It will cost more.
Be careful to ask an agreement with minimum bandwidth guarantee - that minimum bandwidth guarantee will be available no matter how "crawled" will be your network (in fact it does, but in the exceptional cases). I hope your ISP is trustful. I believe you can find some info to solve your problem here.
http://www.fatpipeinc.com/addons/qos/index.htmlWhen I say dorm I mean dormitory.  I live on campus at college.  The internet is free for me and very slow.  We are not allowed to use an alternative internet source so I have to use the one that they provide.  I am interested in increasing the amount of bandwidth that I am receiving.  I read somewhere that you can reserve up to 25% or something.  Everything is fine during the DAY, but in the evenings when everyone is home it gets ridiculously slow, dial up slow.  I know everyone cringed at just having to read that, think about having to use dial up again.  Now everyone should be willing to help.  No one should have internet this slow. The single possibility is to modify settings on one of CAMPUSES routers. I STRONGLY advise you: DON'T DO IT!

QoS? Yes, on a router, not on your local MACHINE. You brush for nothing your part of bandwidth, you have to have a bigger part of bandwidth and that it is done at one  of campus servers. Leave it like so, it's a lost cause from the start. I put here only  theory - I won't tell you how to actually do the modifications. DON'T DO IT!Try this

Go to Control Panel.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "dorm".
He means he is in some student halls at college.  Yanks call them dormatories.

He'll be on the colleges network, so this wouldn't be a fix. Quote

Then why are you considering only yourself and not the other students who have to share bandwidth? The costs to the school of PROVIDING extra bandwidth may be prohibitive.I love that someome called me a Yank. That made me laugh.  I guess that if Yank is a blanket term for American, I am one.  Even though I do live in the North now I am actually a Reb(el) from Kentucky.  I pay over $40,000 to be here so I do not concern myself with the prohibitive costs of the university. Also, if it were possible to pay for my own personal connection, I would be glad to do so, but because of their contracts this is prohibited.
I was just asking if it is possible to increase speed in any way.  Whether it be some internal computer setting, a cable upgrade, or software upgrade?  Anything that I can do on my end that will increase my speeds.  Quote from: Beedub245 on November 30, 2007, 08:52:27 PM

SFTU "Reb"...please.

If the "Rebs", or the Confederates as they were called, had won the American Civil war, maybe then we'd be calling you something different.  But had that happened, I doubt America would still exist.

Sid,

No need for this kind of drivel. If you are into name calling and petty arguments, there are other boards for you. I don't feel an insult was made, and even if it was meant to be one, it was not directed at you.

Please think before you press the "POST" button.

By the way, the answer to the question is to FIRST contact the school's IT department. There may be a simple fix they can provide.

I work overseas in a company where I am the only American amongst a bunch of Brits. I'm not even sure they know my name anymore, they all just call me Yank

Of course, they all got me saying zed (Z) instead of zee, *censored* instead of cigarette, and loads more Brit slang.

Solve : LAN connection for two homes?

Answer»

I know that TWO computers hook up by router in the same home for game playing with each other. My neighbor wants to be able to play games-cards. scrabble, etc. with her daughter in another home. Is this done with a router and cable to mom's computer and a wireless setup on the daughters? How to I do this. She will think I'm the MAN if I can do this but I will give credit mention to whoever can help so she'll know who the REAL man is or woman if applicable. Many thanks for any help.Ok, I'm puzzled.
Why do you TALK about 2 houses? Your neighbor and her daughter live in different houses? Mother in one house, daughter in another house?

If she wants wireless connection she needs a wireless router. Wireless routers usually have connections for wired computers too. So, if they are close (if the computers are close I mean) it is very simple to use a single router to create a LAN network (local area network), wired and wireless in the same time: the computers can be connected to network with cables (so we have wired computers) or wireless (no network cable involved for a computer or more).

If they live in different houses (different regions of town/country etc) we will have to talk about what programs do they want to use, so I may answer properly.

For not talking for nothing please clarify situation (I'm a little dunce sometimes, you have to tell me like you do with small children, sometimes a little draw would help me even more ). Where lives who, what do they want to do, what do they want to CONNECT. But if you would know how to ask the questions, you most certainly would know to solve the problem almost without our help. So, step by step: how many computers are involved (approximatively, you don't have to ask/know the "exact number")? What is their physical location? Are they close, in the same home or they are in different places in town? Or different houses, neighbors?

The first question you need to answer is:

How far away does the Daughter live?

It's possible to setup a network regardless of this, but the ease is much greater if they're only a DOOR or two away from each other.

If they live on oposite sides of town you'll need to look at Virtual Private Networks (through the internet).

We'll also need to know the basics about both computers, like laptop/desktop, O/S, hardware and what kind of router they have (wired only, wireless, etc...)

Cheers chap, let's make you "the man" eh?

in SMALL office two computer has conect crose over cable . they can share data and print computer 1 use dial up conection  computer 2  use internet through analogx proxy . now i have addres like [email protected] i configure outlook  but  i it doesn't work , i try to free cap and. analogx inside alis.  plz share your idea thanks.I'm sorry. Your description is a little confusing.

1. Which computer is using Outlook? What VERSION number of Outlook? Office or Express?

2. What version of Windows are you using on each computer? 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista?

3. If you are using 98, ME, XP or Vista, why are you using AnalogX Proxy? With a crossover cable, internet connection sharing can be done through Windows without the aid of other programs.

4. What do you mean 'it doesn't work'? What is it doing? What error messages does it display?

5. Quote

i configure outlook  but  i it doesn't work , i try to free cap and. analogx inside alis.
This whole sentence is a little unclear.OK
i have two computer  they are connected cross over cable to share file, printer, and internet. i want to configure  office outlook both of them.  the first computer has dial up connection  i configure  office outlook it works perfectly. and i need the the second computer configure office outlook  i need the procedure . thanks  The configuration of Outlook will be the same as the first one. What you need to configure is that the second computer looks for the internet connection on the first computer. This is easily done with the Setup a Home or Small Office wizard located in My Network Places or Network Neighborhood... depending on which OS you're using, which you still didn't specify so I can't give you more precise information than that. Nor did you specify why exactly it isn't working, so you may have already done this and it's something in your Outlook settings. No way to tell if you don't give us that information.

In any case, like I said, the second computer needs to know that the internet connection is located on another computer on the network. That's the first thing you need to sort out. Can you access web pages from the second computer? Or does the internet not work at this point at all on it? Can't tell you how to proceed if we don't know where you are.the second computer has work internet . i configure the outlook  i gave the ISP address inside the outgoing  and  INCOMING mail server  but when i test it " your server may not support SSL. verify your port and SSL settings in more settings under the advance tab " it SAYS  i'm chack all things follow the instruction but  it shouldn't work . shall i get better solution ?? Double check your settings. It sounds like your mail server doesn't support SSL. Try turning that off and doing it again.

Are both computers using the same e-mail account? If so, is the one that is working using SSL?Any particular reason, you use proxy, and SSL setting?

Solve : How to Map a Drive Through a Active Directory?

Hard drive mapping from Active Directory
Hi, I'm a NOOB at mapping hard DRIVES using Active Directory.

I want to SET up a folder for each user in our company. I want to name it 'U' drive.
I want the users to have the 'U' drive available whenever they log into the company domain.

This is my first job doing Network Administration so, go easy. I goggled for a couple of days to figure out how it was done, but I don't know the exact terminology to find what I'm looking for. (mapping hard drives from active directory)

I just like to add that at SCHOOL, when I log on, I get my own space that I can store my school projects on. This space is available only to me. I get 1 Gig of space. So it's cool that I have a back up of my work at school. I like to do that here at work.

I know this doing trough a script. anybody knows this plese telle me what ar the  Procedures  from very begining

Thankx    At your company, employees CHANGE their computers? (I really don't think so, but you know better).

You have to create a script (I like bat scripts and python scripts). You have to mention that script in the user profiles (I can point you the exact location but that means I will be doing your job).

Solve : Help with network firewall?

Answer»

I am trying to shut down my firewall(s) on my pc so that I can connect to my network through port 8080 on my psp. I have shutdown my mcafee firewall and I have placed port 8080 in the exceptions. and it still doesn't work?all you have mentioned are your PC's firewalls.  Is there not a Router of some TYPE involed here in your setup that your PSP is hooked up to?  Give me a bigger picture of what's hooked up to what?1.  PSP...  Is that PlayStation Portable?  As in the following:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable

2.  How about a Model Number and maybe date of manufacture as its capabilities continue to evolve.

3.  So...  Are you trying to connect to your local network via a wireless connection?  Is this a wireless ad-hoc or infrastructure network connection?

I believe the wikipedia ARTICLE I referenced says PSP uses 801.11b wireless standard?  Does your desktop wireless NIC, wireless ACCESS point, or wireless router support 801.11b?

If you're encrypting your wireless COMMUNICATIONS, are you using WEP or WPA?  On both your PSP and wireless access point (whatever you're connecting to)?

Why port 8080?  Standard default port for web access using HTTP protocol is port 80. Quote

Solve : Comp just restored, network will not assign a network address to comp?

Answer»

Hi,

Recently had a virus on my computer. Had to take it to the geek squad to get it fixed. Brought it home the other day and it would not connect to my wireless network (I am on the other laptop in my house that does still connect). It would connect before I got it "fixed". I brought it back to the store the next day and they tried a few things. I will connect to their wireless in the store.

I ORIGINALLY had Geek Squad come out earlier this year to set up my wireless router and the guy who helped me at the store said it might be because of a certain way he set my computer up to connect to the router which got erased when my computer had to be restored.

Now they want to charge me an extra $89 for them to come back out to the house and fix it.

Is there anything I can do to try to fix this myself without forking over even more money?I beloeve we can help you without you are going to have to spend $89.
But we will need more info like what OS are you using?
What's the make and MODEL of the router?
Did you try resarting the router? (You should do this when your computer is on.)

JONAS this might help ya mate.

Solve : Intermittent Network Problems?

Answer»

I have been havong some weird problems LATELY with my network.

For a while everything has gone SMOOTHLY without a hitch.  All of a sudden, for no paticular reason, the network started to go crazy.

Before I continue, I will clue you in as to the set up we have.  We use a netopia modem with a dsl connection, then pass the ethernet-5 cable to a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router  BEFW11S4.  I added the RECENT driver to the router and have not messed with the settings much at all.

We started having some major issues ONE day out of the blue.  Long story short, instead of connecting and automatically letting the network give devices an IP address, we had to manually set up each and every component in network connection properties, assigning an IP address, default gateway, and primary DNS to every compnent.  Very clunky, but we had access to the internet then.

The main issue, oddly, is Windows Media Player 11.  Whenever I try to log onto an online music DISTRIBUTOR, like URGE or Napter Lite, the sites come up fine, but whenever we try to stream or download a song off of those sites, the entire network crashes.  This happens anytime WMP plays a file off of the internet on any of the machines, OSs varying from XP to Vista Home Premium.

For example, I might go on to amazon.com, see a cd I might consider buying, click the preview song link for WMP, WMP comes up, and with no warning dialoges whatsoever, crashes the entire network.  No one is able to access the internet, and we have to go manually reset the modem and router.

My questions are simply these.  Any ideas/solutions to the not being able to automatically connect to the internet?  Also, why does it crash when WMP tries to do anything with internet connectivity?

Thanks for your help beforehand! It seems that either your router or your modem has gone crazy. I suspect that the router has some problems.
You may try to change his operating system with the latest for this router (firmware update) - pay attention, write the actual settings of the router (firewall settings, connections settings, dhcp settings etc) so you may be able to "re-do" settings after update. It is not complicated, but if you don't know (now) where to look after those settings, you certainly will not be able to recreate those.

Also, you may look on internet for similar problems. (Look what I found: http://www.allaboutjake.com/network/linksys/befw11s4/ )

Solve : plug?

Answer»

here my situation i have small business in asmall town i have 6 computers plug on a ROUTER linksis
my trouble is that 3 goes verry well and 3 that sometime they et plug and when it does plug it is verry slow
any suggestion

thanks for reply1.  What's the issue?

I'm not sure what you have, what you're trying to do, and what you think is wrong.

You have a small business in a small town.  You have SIX computers connected to a Linksys router.  Three computers work well.  The other three (sometimes don't connect???) and when they do (it???) is very slow.

I think you're saying three of the computers don't always connect, and when they do; they (or is it your entire network) is very slow.

2.  Local Area Network (LAN) Configuration:

     a.  What is the Model Number of your Linksys router?  Approximate year that you BOUGHT it? (As this gives hint as to version of firmware controlling it.)

The firmware has many "options" that you may need to become familiar with:
          (1)  The firmware may limit how many simultaneous connections it can effectively manage.  Or the physical design/components of router may effectively limit number of simulataneous connections it can effectively service.

          (2)  It may limit which computers may connect and when (day of week, time of day).

          (3)  There may be newer version of firmware that resolves problems you're having (but this can be risky).

     b.  Are all six computers plugged into the Linksys router at the same time?  What operating system are they using?

     c.  Is there a lot of traffic on your network?  Are you RUNNING a server, e.g. database, that all of your computers continuously communicate with?

     d.  Is this a closed network (no internet access) or do you allow internet access?  Running a "web" server?
WOW  that is alot us stuff to figure out
let see what i cant say    the 6 computers were working great on the internet for the last year ..monday morning got to work only 3 of then  could surf the net and the 3 other would not.. or would be verry slow  trie to repaire ip adress and it says that they can not fix  all on xp  hope this help u more

Solve : HELP!! Can't connect to IE, Fire Fox, or Opera... But I connect to Wyzo!!?

Answer»

For some reason I can't connect to either fire fox opera or IE... But I can connect to the Wyzo Browser.. Can any one tell me why??

I tried everything thing I can THINK of.. I Guess my true question is.. By any chance is there a way to find out, I dunno maybe the port or whatever the Wyzo browser is using to connect to the internet and change the settings so that the other programs can connect??

Please, any help would be appreciated....

My specs are:

HP Pavilion 2.00GHz

1Gig DDR 1 Ram

256 Geforce FX 5200 Card

Cable Modem Routed THOUGH a HUB to 3 PC's

NOD32 Anti Virus- (BTW, This doesn't connect either so I can't update to see is this problem is caused by a virus)

XP Service Pack 2

When you say you can't connect, I take it you mean you can't see any pages in the browsers other than Wyzo?Yes, exactly! Any help on this would be great!

THANKS,

Smoov1.  Take a look at how your browers connect to the internet.  For example, using MOZILLA FIREFOX 2.0.0.9:

o  Left click on "Tools" option of main menu.  A pull down menu should appear.
o  Left click on "Options..." item.  An "Options" window should appear.
o  Left click on "Advanced" option from top row of icons.
o  Left click on "Network" tab.
o  Within "Connection" subsection, left click on "Settings..." button.  "Connection Settings" window will open.
o  Study this window and what it's current settings are.  You might want to record what current settings are before changing them.  At this point you're pretty much on your own, but I would give the "Direct connection to the Internet" radio button a try.

2.  At any rate, you need to examine how each of your browsers connect to the internet.  The solution to your problem lies there I believe.

3.  Another possibility could be your firewall, but normally internet access is not blocked by default.  Internet access thru HTTP protocol is normally thru port 80.  (of TCP/UDP?)

Solve : Trouble getting into networked laptop?

Answer»

Hi,
I just bought a gateway laptop with Vista Home Basic on it.  It it wirelessly connecting to my desktop through a netgear router that is connected to the desktop.

Both COMPUTERS connect to the internet fine.
On the laptop using the wireless I can see & open the desktop computer and its shared files.

However the desktop computer cannot open the laptop to get to the shared files and printer.  When I open the workgroup (all named the same) and double click 'laptop' it TELLS me I may not have PERMISSION.  Sometimes it doesnt want to SHOW even the laptop icon.

I have all sharing turned on both on the folders themselves and through the network & sharing center but the desktop still cannot access the laptop or printer that is connected to the laptop.  Same results when the windows firewall is turned off.

I have McAffee but there doesnt seem to be any settings affecting that.

Any help?  Oh..and the desktop has windows XP w/ sp2.   I have had a friend who knows about networking and computers check it but he has not been able to find the problem yet.

thanks,
DianaPlease expound on exactly WHAT McAfee product you have?  I find it hard to believe that McAfee doesn't have any setting pertaining to it.  If there is a network problem and McAfee is present, it is almost ALWAYS at fault.  IMHO.  Is there a way to completely close the McAfee program?  Is so, I would close it completely and see if that fixes your problem.  That wouldn't be a permanent fix of course, but it would help you point the finger of blame more accurately.guess I just needed moral support LOL.

Turned out it was the Mcaffee (security suite with firewall).   It was supposed to be allowing the private network and even had an IP range listed but still didnt let it through.  So since it worked when I turned off that firewall I messed with the settings more.  I just added the specific IP address for that computer and then it was allowed in (even though it should have already been allowed since the IP range was listed and private network was to be trusted).

Anyway, Thanks

DianaWell, good. I like the easy fixesme too...bummer that my friend and I have been working WAY too hard on this for a couple of weeks, lol.   Kind of like BOGGLE..right under your nose and you may not see it.

Solve : Internet goes down whenever I play music?

It's just the weirdest thing and I really have no clue why it does what it does.
My internet browsers (ie and FIREFOX) work perfectly fine when I'm doing almost everything online. As soon as I open a page with music on it, however, or try to play a music clip, my internet (just the internet) freezes and becomes nonresponsive. I have AVG and I've ran a scan several times, but I'm not recieving any information about a virus. Solve : VPN Connection to domain resources.?

Answer»

Hello!

We are using a Sonic Wall TZ170 for a VPN connection. We are SUCCESSFUL at connecting to the SonicWall, but when trying to connect to a program on a server it will not let us unless it is a DOMAIN PC. Is there a way to choose a domain or force a domain LOGIN once a VPN connection is established with a non domain PC?

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated! Thanks!p.s. If it is not possible, it is ok to tell me that.I figured it out . After the VPN connection which brings the PC through the firewall, it was a matter of using the IP address to map the share folder. I also edited the hosts file and COULD then also use the PC name!!

Solve : PC fully connected but not pingable by other PC on the home network?

Answer»

PC1 is XP Pro SP2
PC2 is XP Home SP2
PC1 can ping the router and network printer but not PC2
PC1 cannot ACCESS shares on PC2
PC2 can ping all devices on the network and access shares on PC1
Both can access the internet
All devices have fixed IP ADDRESSES.
All devices have been reset/restarted multiple times during troubleshooting.

Problem started when PC2 (laptop) was changed to DHCP for use in a hotel.
Changed back to fixed address for use at home.
No does not respond to pings in fixed, DHCP, wired, or wireless modes.

PC2 firewall is OFF.

Any ideas??
I'd turn off all firewalls on both PC1 and PC2. Nine times out of ten this TYPE of issue always boils down to a firewall related issue. Make sure that not only your Windows firewall is disabled but if you have Norton, McAfee, AVG, etc. virus protection that if it has a firewall it too is disabled.

If you're still unable to ping get to a command prompt on both computers and do the below steps

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig

This will release the addresses and then renew them with your router. Once that's done ipconfig will display your ip address. I'm sure you probably KNOW these commands but just in case you don't here they are.

Once this is done make sure you're pinging the right address and try again. If that doesn't work just to make sure you don't have software running causing issues booth the computers into Safe Mode with network support and try again.

Thanks.  Been there done that.   Renewing the IP address is only meaningful if you are using DHCP but I did try it when I had it configured for DHCP.   I also tried turning off the firewalls in both computers .......  ahhh - it just struck me that even when Zone Alarm is turned off there is a stub running.   I'll have to reboot to get it out of the way entirely.   I'll report back but I am not hopeful.

Any other ideas out there???(This is from an older version of ZA Pro on a 2K machine.)

You might not have to DISABLE ZA. Bring up ZA by double clicking its icon in the system tray. Click the advanced button. Click Zone Alarm Settings tab. Check the list to see if ICMP (ping) is allowed. Be sure the settings are saved and reboot. Try pinging again. Thanks 2k_dummy.   However ZA cannot be blocking ICMP since I can ping the router, the printer, and all over the internet.   It is pinging from the ZA equipped computer to the non-ZA equipped laptop that the ping is not acknowledged - even with the Windows Firewall disabled on the laptop.

I am stumped.

Solve : Wireless to wired .?

Answer»

Hey everyone im trying to gather some information for a friend .

He has a wireless connection and is a extreme gamer he gets bad signal when PLAYING online games he also lags quite badly so he wants to be able to switch from wireless to wired is this possible , ive got as much information as i can .  SEE below

Router - westell 327W

laptop - dell latitude D610

X-p Pro.

If he can what does he need to buy or how can this be made possible.

Thanks GuyS Tony

If you need more information i will gladly ask him .

All he would need to do is buy an Ethernet cable and connect his Latitude to the router via Ethernet.
Then any configuration changes made on the wireless card, i.e. IP addresses, etc, would need to also be applied to the Ethernet connection.
It's FAIRLY easy anyway, and a GOOD way to reduce lag.

Hope this helps.

Solve : "MAC" physical address?

Answer»

The place I work for just came thru and RECORDED the "MAC" address and computer names of all the computers in the office. What can they "watch" by having this info? I heard they were concerned with bandwith issues on the network. Some of us play online games here at work. Could they monitor the sites we VISIT with this information? Thanks.
You need to remember one thing and one thing only...automatically assume anything you do in the workplace is being monitored...whether you are aware of it or not.

This is the only logical approach to assume...it's not paranoia.Without more info about the network itself one can only assume.  However the chances are pretty GOOD that it is being monitored, especially if there is a good firewall in place.  I would say it's safe to assume that the websites that are used most commonly for non work related things will soon be blocked.  However, they may have just been taking an inventory check.  As Patio said, it's a safe assumption that they were "WATCHING" you guys before they took that info.  Maybe now they want to narrow it down a little.Well, thanks for the info. I couldn't tell you much about the network. It does require a key code to have access. I guess things here might be changing......A MAC address is the physical address that manufacturers ASSIGN to the actual NIC (Network Interface Card). Each NIC has (is supposed to have) it's own unique MAC address. These are generally used for inventory purposes. If your company is monitoring you it is usually done using your IP (Internet Protocol) address. Generally speaking, I'd say about 80% of compasies do monitor their employees. I hope this helped.

Solve : every times its say network cable unplugged?

Answer»

hi
i used broad band internet connection with DLink GLB 502T modem and Dlink Ethernet card , my connection to internet is very nice but after some times its continously popup network cable unplugged hat is the reason
i used windows 2000 operating system
straight cableis from modem to ethernat card
The only thing I can think of at the moment is the IP lease time. Check the router setup and look for the lease time. Set it to 0, which is 24 hour lease. Any other number is the actual hours for which the IP is valid. Also:
http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windowsnetworking/f/cableunplugged.htm

    *  DISABLE the Ethernet network adapter if you are not using it. This applies, for example, when running a WiFi home network with computers that have built-in Ethernet adapters. To disable the adapter, double-click the small Network Cable Unplugged error window and choose the Disable option.

    * Check both ends of the Ethernet cable CONNECTED to the adapter to ENSURE they are not loose.

    * Replace the Ethernet cable with a different one to verify the cable is not damaged.

    * Update the network adapter driver software from the manufacturer's Web site.

    * Change the Link Speed and Duplex settings (using Device Manager) to use "100 Mbps Full Duplex" or "10 Mbps Full Duplex" INSTEAD of Auto Detect.

    * Replace the Ethernet network adapter if it is a removable PCI or PCMCIA card.
First remove and re-insert the existing adapter hardware to verify the card is connected properly. If necessary, also replace it with a different card.

    * The device your Ethernet adapter is connected to, such as a broadband modem or network router may be malfunctioning. Troubleshoot these devices as needed.

Solve : Cannot access router?

Answer»

I should have mentioned this before and I don't know why I didn't...

There is one difference between the CONNECTIONS of my iPAQ, her laptop, and my PC.

The iPAQ and laptop are wirelessly connected to the router, the PC is wired.

I've ALREADY tried changing ports, still didn't help. Quote from: Broni on November 23, 2007, 10:29:29 AM

Just in case:
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N100651.asp

I was aware of that. It's printed on the label on the bottom of the router

I just need to find out the user name and password from my ISP for my internet account before I reset. I can't do that until morning... another 9 hours or so.Keep us updated.Bah! Still no luck with this. Something just isn't right and I can't figure out what it is. This is so frustrating!

I've tried a reset of the router, no luck there.

I haven't accessed the router in a while or changed anything, as there was no need to. It's been perhaps 1-2 months. It has worked fine so I've had no reason to do anything to it.

Ok, let's LOOK at this again...

Installed since last access to router:
Mozilla Firefox
Pidgin Messenger (http://www.pidgin.im)
Philips SPC 200NC PC Camera

And I can't remember if Microsoft Office 2007 was installed before or after I discovered the problem. I think that came after so it probably has nothing to do with it.

It's only this computer. It connects to the router just fine and can access the internet like normal. what the heck am I missing?  How about contacting Netgear? Quote from: Broni on November 25, 2007, 02:26:15 PM
How about contacting Netgear?

I did that three days ago. Haven't got a response from them yet. Still waiting. Weekend, maybe?Got it!

About a month ago, my ISP had me set a proxy due to connection problems that have since been corrected. The proxy was set on this computer alone and is what was interfering with this computer's ability to access the router's settings. The proxy setting was GRABBED by Firefox from IE during installation which is what caused Firefox to react the same way. It has been removed now and access to the router restored.

Thanks for the help!WOW! That simple, huh? Nice job...

You're not getting your DSL for free, are you? Why don't you just call your ISP to let them fix it? Quote from: kmknuggalo on November 10, 2007, 01:30:28 PM

What exactly is the problem?    You can't visit web pages on the web with your browser?

Your system is much like what I use.   I too use Win98SE with a Westell 6100 modem/router.  Because of this, I'd like to be able to help you.... I'm just not sure of what you are trying to SAY.

If you are referring to the filter that sits between the phone line and the modem, it is a necessity. It is not just a filter, it is a splitter that seperates the analog voice portion from the digital DSL portion. There should also be a filter connected to all other analog devices on the line (ext phones, fax, etc.) Quote from: 2k_dummy on November 12, 2007, 01:44:44 PM

Whoa there, 2K_dummy.  Those filters are for analog devices on the line, not for the DSL modem.  There should be no filter on the line connected to the modem. Quote
There should be no filter on the line connected to the modem.

Don't mean to start an ARGUMENT, but, yes there should be. If you look closely you will SEE that there are two different size jacks, one for a phone and one for ethernet. Many people get confused with these things and often place them incorrectly. Two different size jacks on the modem? Yep, I know, and no filter goes on the phone line coming into the modem.  If you do that, you've got a different type of DSL than what I have.

Edit: take a look at the diagram on PAGE 1 of this reference: http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/DSL_Inline_Filter_Installation.pdfTwo different size jacks on the filter. My DSL apparently is different from yours. Quote from: 2k_dummy on November 12, 2007, 03:33:36 PM
Two different size jacks on the filter.

Like the original poster,  I have a Westell model 6100 DSL modem/router.

On the phone line there is no filter.   Connects straight from the modem to a surge protector,  then out the phone line.

Filters supplied by the phone compary are  inline between the wall and phone, at each phone on this line.

My DSL apparently is different from yours.

What  DSL modem  brand/model number do you have?

If you have an alarm system installed in your home, then you most likely have a filter installed.

Solve : Networking not working with XP SP2?

Answer»

I recently upgraded my server PC from XP to XP SP2. Previously I had no problems with connecting to my LAN, but now, I lose connectivity ALMOST every day. I often have to re-setup the Home OFFICE networking. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn't.
However, I SUSPECT that it may have some problems with the firewall setting. Once too, I saw a Windows error message that said something about having problems with a Generic host driver.
Could someone help me out?Windows gives me this message:
Generic Host PROCESS for Win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close
Is it possible that the XP is corrupted? You can try this patch and see if it helps...

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.mspx

I downloaded the patch but it works only with regular XP, not on [email protected] However, I have in the meantime solved the problem. I needed to specify the exceptions on the Firewall in order for my workstations to access the server connection.

Solve : Belkin 802.11g Wireless Router?

Answer»

I am aware that there may be posts already on this subject, however i am treating this a a new subject. For the purposes of this problem I am disregarding the ADSL/CABLE component of this router as it is not cause any problems yet.

My problem lies in trying to access the configuration page of the router. I have nortons 360 firewall disabled and windows firewall disabled when offline. According to belkin I need to type in 192.168.2.1 into the web browser to access this. I am able to ping the following:

Laptop => 169.254.41.215
Internet gateway or switch, what ever that is =>127.0.0.1

so there is no problem there, but when I type in the address for the router page it says "Internet explorer can not display the webpage. All pinged addresses are IPv4. I have attached a Text file with current settings obtained from Ipconfig using all switch.

How can one OBTAIN access to this page, I remember accessing it before but I can't remember how exactly to do it. I should also point out that both SYSTEMS are running Windows VISTA Home Basic.

[saving disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]Do you type in:
http://192.168.2.1
in IE address BAR?
Did you try Firefox?To Broni
I have been playing with the configuration of my system and, believe it or not, I have got it going heres how I did it:

1. Reset the router - I pressed the button in for about 5 to 10 seconds, maybe even 15 seconds at the most.

2. Unchecked share internet connection, this was the main PROBLE as the internet browser tried to find a internet connection to search for the address i entered.

I have checked this three times and found it to be correct. Hopefully it might help someone else that is having the same problem.
