Solve : Help with Wi-Fi on Ipod Touch?

Answer»

I browsing the Internet using my Ipod Touch at my house earlier (we have a router connected to our home computer), and clicked a link and was accidentally directed to a (vulgar) website. I noticed that at the top of the website, where the site name is usually displayed, it SAID something about "Use Mobile Version of this site $1". I had never seen that before.

Going on the website was a mistake... I didn't mean to land there, and I was on the site for no more than a couple of seconds... Will I be charged a dollar? Do you KNOW of any websites that actually charge to use their mobile versions?

If I am charged $1, will the dollar be added onto my internet bill that I receive? Or would it show up on the credit card bill that I GET with my Itunes charges on it?This is a joke, right?No.1) I have no idea if you're going to be charged a dollar.
2) I can't BELIEVE a dollar is worth this much time and effort on your (or our) part

Solve : Wireless home network between Windows 7 and Windows XP?

Answer»

** PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP **

I have a Windows 7 desktop that is connected to a Charter cable modem and a Linksys WRT110 wireless router (internet works great), I am TRYING to get a Windows XP laptop (which has WAN) to connect to the internet through the Home Network. The XP laptop shows that it's connected to the network but when I try to get ONLINE Internet Explorer comes up saying that it cannot connect to the internet.

I have a Toshiba laptop that has Windows 7 and this one connects to the network/internet with no trouble.
I have been going nuts trying to connect the Windows XP laptop but to no avail, can someone help me out?
Windows XP Networking is so easy.
Just ask Microsoft.
Nothing to it!

Now let's be real. In XP you have to try and try again to get the wireless network going RIGHT. You have to start over again with the Wireless Wizard. You may have to install the wireless software that came with the machine. Again.
And always reset the system every time you change anything.
Make sure you have the right settings for Internet Explorer.

Solve : unidentified network?

Answer»

hi I have 4 sony-vaio laptops running Windows 7 Professional. We have sonicwall pro2040 and DHCP is enabled. Previously when we had XP in our office when we disconnect ONE system from one desk to another it will automatically USE to connect to network. But in new windows 7 systems when i disconnect and from one desk and connect to another desk it says unidentified network. And i have to restart the sytem or disable and enable the network adapter once to connect to the network.
Any SUGGESTIONS?
Thanx in advance................Quote

And i have to restart the sytem or disable and enable the network adapter once to connect to the network
\
It's a fair obvious for the network adapter. If you are pointing only to the certain laptop's adapter, then check for any firmware updates or any WIN 7 OS networking services that just needs to be adjusted or configured.

Solve : I may have messed up something with my Belkin Router?

Answer»

I'm stupid so please forgive me.

I went to 192.168.2.1 because my router stopped producing wi-fi (I couldn't even find my router wirelessly) and it said that it as an 'access point' was disabled, so I enabled it (possibly bad MOVE), it said something about changing my IP address, or something like that, and now the router is completely off, red light, and I can't access 192.168.2.1 anymore.

Help?Performing a hardware reset on the routerA quick one or one that returns it to factory settings?

And I really hate to be a bother, I know I'm stupid with computers, but before this, what I was TRYING to fix, was that my router didn't show up whenever I tried to connect with my laptop, like it wasn't producing wi-fi, if that makes sense. Any idea about that?Just read the documentation.
After a consumer router is reset, the user should connect directly to the router with a Ethernet cable. You may have to reset the PC to get it to find the router. These details ought to be in the quick start card or user manual

http://en-us-support.belkin.com/
Is the support page for US based products. If you are in the UK:
http://www.belkin.com/uk/

Most of the popular manufactures of home equipment have some on-line support. You just have to LOOK for it.
Or just come here and get help from Computer_Commando or any of the tireless volunteers who what to help.

PS 192.168.2.1 is not always the default address for popular routers.
Often it is 192.168.1.1 instead.
I'm really sorry, but what do you mean by 'documentation'?

And I don't have the manual or the quick start card, this is my mother's computer. Not sure if she has them anywhere, but it's not near me.

And the second address for the router didn't work. Can someone just give me a brief idea on what to do? But in a simple way, if possible.

(I'm really sorry about all of this. I'm trying to get this done as quick as I can, so I won't bother you guys much longer unless I have to)OK.
Let us know what INFORMATION you have about the router.
Name. Model.
Any information on the front, back or bottom.
This link should give you some photos of routers.

Using windows XP SP3 modem router and computer are connected with a clear strong SIGNAL. I try to connect to the I/Net and the computer will not connect.Ive turned off the fire wall and it still wont connect. What could be the problem?1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista).

2. Type in (or copy and paste):

cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$&notepad %temp%\$.$

and press Enter.

3. Notepad will open.

4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply.
The issue may be with your antivirus, so disable /STOP the antivirus protection and have a try.. it will fix the issue..

Cheers!Hi,
If you have brodband connection then their might be problem with Network Cabling that not ALLOWING you to access internet on your system.. Ignore the above post.Is firewall affect internet connection?

I think there is no problem SWITCHING on /off your windows firewall. It seems the problem are:

1. Cable CONFIGURATION
Maybe your color scheme ais not sort well. or your rj 45 not inserted properly.
Check cable configuration, if you are using wired connection E.g. using UTP,STP,FTP cables.
2. Check if ure network status is not disabled. Some virus can disable ure local area network status as well as the conection to the internet.
3. If you check all those mehod try to repair your local area network by doing the following method
Code: [Select]Start Menu\Network Place\View Network Connection then\Right click\Repair

i hope it will help you a little..Ignore the one above as well.I can't believe all of the bad advice given in this thread, it might be a record.

Solve : Unable to get internet service on GoGo inflight internet?

Answer»

Equipment is HP laptop G60 - 530us RUNNING Windows 7, 64 bit version

Yesterday tried to use GoGo inflight service while aboard a Delta flight. Followed instructions but was unable to get onto internet. Network manager indicated that I was INDEED CONNECTED to GoGo but also stated that there was no internet access. Many other passengers were able to get on and use with no PROBLEMS. Tried rebooting several times and also tried disabling both firewall and antivirus. No help. Tried using Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. No help.

I have no problem connecting to and using WIFI in my own home and at least two other homes. In those cases Network manager indicates that I am connected and have internet access.

Called GoGo customer service but they had no idea what could be causing problem, which seems to be unique to my laptop.

Any ideas?

Solve : shutdown restarting network computers?

Answer»

Hi there,

I have a number of Vista home basic and Win 7 home premium systems in a Workgroup. They are all configured with a static IP address. I am trying to do the following task from a central workstation which is also on the same Workgroup:

- Wake up these system if there are asleep
- shutdown and reboot of these systems
- use a batch file or something similar to achieve this since there are many workstation

I have tried with the "shutdown.exe' command but to no success. Can some suggest some documentation or point me in the correct directionhttp://www.fileguru.com/apps/shutdown_a_workgroup_computerAs for waking the systems up, you will need to make sure that the Network Cards in all of the PC's support 'Wake on LAN' (You will also need to look into software that will allow you to send 'Magic Packets' as those packets are what will wake the PC.)

As for being able to use a batch file you will only be able to achieve that if you upgrade to a version of Vista / Win7 that gives you the remote shutdown functionality as I don't think home editions do.

(Just to make sure open the 'Run' BOX, type in 'cmd' and then in the command prompt window type in 'shutdown -i' and press ENTER. This will open a graphical user interface for remotely shutting PC's down, if that doesn't work (which I don't think it will) then you can be sure it isn't supported.)

Hi namich2007,

1. Wake up these system if there are asleep

have a look at http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-008459.htm , it will teach you how to wake up a system through remotely

2. shutdown and reboot of these systems

To perform this procedure USING shutdown.exe, you must have the user rights to force a shutdown from a remote system.

Windows OS support shutdown command to remotely shutdown or restart the PC. Open the command prompt and type shutdown /? To see the list of switches available. Here are a couple of the command switches and they perform several actions like
-l: - Logs off the computer
-s: - Shuts down the computer
-r: - Restarts the computer
-m \\computername: - remote shutdown of a computer
-f: - Forces programs to close immediately

3. use a batch file or something similar to achieve this since there are many workstation

Sorry, i didn't get you CLEARLY, can you please more specific? Do you need to shutdown/ restart / wake up all the system using a single batch file?

Have a look at http://www.nsauditor.com/network_tools/remote_shutdown_help.html it is third party tool for remote administration like this..

Hope this helps!

Regards,
JiTh
Server AdministratorHello,
You said you are a beginner and you are open to any suggestions. The question you have placed can be answered by members of this forum. Many I suggest an alternative idea?
Perhaps you don't wish to leave all the computers on always to prevent a security problem and not waste energy. Perhaps a solution would be to have all the computers come on at the designated time. There is a feature inside of Windows that will allow computers to start at a predetermined time. Also, this feature might be available in the BIOS. Check the documentation or your computer to see if this is available in the BIOS.
The reason for suggesting this is because you present yourself as a beginner and the wake up LAN feature can be difficult to implement. Let me know if you wish to pursue the idea of an alternative clock-based solution.

Solve : Network Connection Problem?

Answer»

I have a DELL Optiplex 755 with a 2.66 processor with 1 GB ram running XP Pro.
When I reboot for any reason it takes about 45 minutes for the network icon to SHOW up in the task bar and I am unable to get to my network until then and the internet. I am unable to view any network settings until it comes up. When I click on network nothing happens. After about 45 minutes it starts working. This has been doing this for several months. I have scanned with malwarebytes a couple of different virus scans. Avg and ONLINE scans, but nothing. I installed a new NIC card, but that didn’t fix it either. I don’t know what else to try.
Thanks for any help
Does this happen in safe mode as well?Hi Danldo,

May be your issue is due to any installed software which was installed on ( or just before) the day that the issue is started..

Just to confirm, have you receiving any error just before the network icon to show up?
Also check your event viewer to get any information..
Try one more thing, just disable your anti virus and reboot the system, and have a check..

Regards,
JiTh
Server AdministratorIt will work in safe mode.
I uninstalled my antivirus and it CAME RIGHT up.
I installed a different antivirus and it does the same thing.
I can't remember what I might have installed.
I looked at the task manager, but couldn't tell much about processes. I looked at performance and it didn't have any spikes.

Solve : Puzzling internet connectivity issue?

Answer»

Hi there, I have a very STRANGE internet connectivity issue that I can't figure out.

On my home network my laptop is connected wirelessly to a router, the router is connected to a DSL modem, and the modem is connected to the internet. Now the problem is when I boot up the laptop and let it join the network, the modem drops internet connectivity and is unable to reconnect until the laptop is turned off again. When the laptop is not present on the network the modem can connect to the internet without any problems. This strange issue only started in the last few days, up until now the laptop could connect to my network without causing any problems.

The technical DETAILS are:

laptop: MSI CR610, win 7, about 6 months old
router: Netgear RangeMax WNR3500 v1
modem: Netgear Ethernet Modem DM111P

This problem has me PUZZLED as the laptop connects wirelessly to the router, not the modem. Yet the router seems to communicate normally with the laptop, while modem is completely inoperable. Would anyone have any suggestions? I thought possibly a windows 7 update had caused a conflict, but I searched the web and couldn't find anything useful or anyone with a similar problem

thanks for your time,
MikeNo, I don't not have a quick answer to your problem.
But a couple of recommendations.
1. Make sure you have a backup of your data.
2. Contact your ISP and see if they have an error log for your connection.
3. Check out your AV software, are you sure it is working?

Yes, I suspect you have some kind of rogue software that ANNOYS your modem.
No, I can not prove it. Just my funny hunch.
One of many references that support this idea.

Solve : Wired desktop connection doesn't work, but wireless laptop connection is fine?

Answer»

Problem description: My old hard drive was dying so I bought a new one and installed Windows 7 on it. The old hard drive was running Windows XP. I have a DI-624 router that ran fine on XP. On Windows 7, I have no network access and get the error "local area connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. When I plug in my old dying hard drive and boot through XP, everything is fine and the connection works normally. Also, my laptop can connect to wireless fine throughout all of this.

Attempted fixes:
-checked to make sure I have the newest firmware of the router (I do)
-tried installing new drivers for the router
-disable and re-enable LAN, both before and after power cycling the router and modem
-tried a suggested fix of manually assigning a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 (the router's IP address)
-manually assigned IP address (when I do this with the above manual default gateway, I still have no network access but the troubleshoot messages changes from "local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" to "troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem."
-disabled IPv6
-reset TCP/IP, netsock, flushed DNS, etc

Recent changes: It is a fresh install of Windows 7, so it couldn't be from any recent changes. Other than that there are no hardware changes either, but it can't be hardware related anyway since plugging in the Windows XP hard drive lets internet work fine.

So after all that, I got so desperate that I just decided to ORDER a USB wireless adapter. Since my laptop can connect to the router wireless just fine, I figured it would be a stupid but effective workaround to get the desktop to have working internet.

The adapter got here today and when I booted up the desktop for the first time in a while, and surprisingly the wired connection was working fine. It asked me if the network was private, home, etc, I set it as home and it worked fine. Downloaded STUFF, browsed, etc, it asked about Homegroup, I told it no, and it continued working just fine for several hours. I had to reboot for something and of course upon rebooting it was back to the usual error - sees my network as a public network, calls it Unidentified Network, no network access, and the troubleshooting error of:

"Local area connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

I tried using the USB wireless adapter and it's giving me a no network access error despite seeing/connecting to my network wirelessly. Honestly, I'd rather just get the wired connection working anyway so I don't mind that the USB wireless adapter didn't work.

I have no idea what else to try at this point other than going back to XP, but I really, really want to avoid that if possible. I know it's not a hardware problem since the wired connection has worked on Windows 7 at random at various points, so there must be some niggling setting that is being overlooked. Any ideas?

--

OPERATING system: New hard drive has Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. Old hard drive was Windows XP.

System specs:The router is a DI-624, the network adapter is "Realtek PCI GBE Family Controller", the motherboard is a Jetway 848PDC(P)

I have GOOGLED and read the FAQ: Yes, all the google responses for this issue suggest that disabling/re-enabling the LAN or manually setting the default gateway should do the trick, neither of which worked for me

Thanks for any help!

Solve : Linksys WRT110???

Answer»

Okay I have a LINKSYS RangePlus Wireless Router (WRT110) which I've had hooked up to a Windows XP computer, I've since UPGRADED to a Windows 7 computer. Cisco's LiveChat said I can hook the router up to my Windows 7 computer, I just have to go to 192.168.1.1 and manually set up the router, this is as far as they will help because my router is no longer under warranty!

My problem........when I typed in my username and password I got a message saying it was incorrect. Does anyone know how I can 'erase' or 'reset' this?Did you buy the router new? If so leave the user name blank and type admin for the password for a linksys. Careful about that reset button on those; you can actually mess up the firmware if you hold it down too long on those ciscos. On OLDER Linksys ROUTERS, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

This will only work if the user has not changed the default username and password. If the default was changed they router will need to be reset to FACTORY before the instructions by Zync can be preformed.

After the router is reset to factory you will have to have it connected via Ethernet Cable.

Solve : help connect my windows xp to wireless signal?

Answer»

On my main computer which uses vista i have a modem and a router set up and it runs perfectly. My ipod also uses this connection. But, downstairs I have a windows xp. I know the connection goes that far because my ipod and laptop both work right there. However, the desktop computer doesn't detect the connection, it only has options for dial up, broadband, and LAN. In the control panel under network connections there is no wireless connection button or anything of that sort.
Do I need a wireless USB router thing? Or what?

Yes
Wireless USB adapter - Netgear

Or Belkin, D-link or Tri-dent are also OK.
You could always drill a hole and run a wire. The signal will have less latency and more security.Quote
Do I need a wireless USB router thing? Or what?
I'm just curious to why you post desktop and you are mentioning cannot connect to wireless... Did it connected wirelessly before or is your desktop or mobo with an WNIC that MIGHT not yet be configured or installed properly? You could look at your Device Manager and expand network adapter to confirm this. Otherwise if nothing is installed then you could follow Geek-9PM, Quantos suggestions.Your desktop must ALREADY have an Ethernet connection, I'm sure. A 50 foot PIECE of standard ethernet cable with the connectors already attached will probably cost you about $15 at a local store. You can find it cheaper mail-order, but you have to factor in the cost of shipping it. Then there's the question of drilling the hole. A 3/8 bit should do the job, but you may find that you need to go to a 7/16 in order to pass the cable.

And it has to be an extra long drill bit, about 8 inches or so make sure you get it all the way through the wall. Oh, forgot to mention, you're not going to be only get the hood and connector through even the 7/16 holel. So you have to cut off the connector, then splice it back on again. That would be quite messy unless you have the right tool and another connector.

More tools, more money, more time and more HASSLE. Still, I prefer the direct cable connection whenever I can, but in our house there is a moratorium on drilling more holes in the walls. Presently I am using a laptop with a built-in wi-fi connection. Just to go from my den to the laundry room.Sigh

Once more you demonstrate your ignorance.
A standard 5/8" drill bit is used, and pulling wire isn't an issue with a 12" length of bailing wire.

Personally I prefer the labor to have a low latency connection that is far more secure.Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 23, 2010, 04:08:39 AM
And it has to be an extra long drill bit, about 8 inches or so make sure you get it all the way through the wall.
According to the OP, the computer is downstairs, so it's not as simple as just putting a small hole in the wall. We also don't know if this person is renting or living with their parents; they may not even be allowed to do such a thing. There's also no telling if the computer's modem has an RJ-45 (there's a fair chance that it does, but I'm just saying). Going with the USB adapter is easier and cheaper. I agree that a wired connection is better, but if everything else is already wireless, I don't see the harm in adding one more to the list.CBMatt
what is an RJ 45?Well, in simple terms, it is a type of jack that uses an ethernet (broadband) cable. Take a look at the picture I have attached below. The jack on the left is a phone jack (RJ11) for dial-up and the one on the right is an RJ45 (notice that it is wider), which is where you would plug in your ethernet cable. You should have some SIMILAR jacks on your router.

Solve : more then one computer on a network?

Answer»

Hey Guys,
Haven't been on here in a while. I have a couple questions,

1) I have a network it holds 3-4 computers on it, when I go to put another computer, WHETHER it be wireless or not it bumps off a computer on the network. these other computer are wired and not wireless. I have NEVER seen this before, I am stumped. I looked through the setting's and nothing is limited.

2) how can a computer take off programs it self? This is going to sound wierd. I updated a computer we have in the shop. I took off Office 2007 and installed Office 2010. When I came back just a day lator Office 2010 was gone from the computer. What is also weird is that Office 2007 was back on it but does not work. Now I can't take off or install Office 2007 or 2010? It is listed in the control PANNEL but can not uninstall it or override it. Also took off my AVG and Winamp. Winamp is no where to be found.

Can someone help?Check the routers settings to see if you are allowing enough IP addresses. If that has been limited then it will do this with DHCP enabled. To completely uninstall window office 2010, go to RUN, type "regedit" enter. On the panel press Ctrl + F and type window office 2007 to search for the uninstall remaining problem. It will be highlighted, press delete and repeat the Ctrl + F to find the remaining program on your computer and delete. FINALLY, go to my computer, open C:/ drive, click all programs and delete the folder labeled Window 2007.

If the above PROCESS fails, try to restore the computer to days before installing the 2010, re-run the installation wizard and choose the option of uninstall.

You may have a virus. Go HERE, do exactly what they say and post all logs in a new thread in the virus section. Don't post your logs here.# 1
Have you checked to make sure that each system has it own IP address? Set the computers to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Set the router to factory defaults after try connecting each computer one at a time.

You will also need to redo the wireless configuration on the router.

# 2
Has this happened to any other systems or was it just the one? Did you disable the AV prior to install (can interfere software installs and corrupt them)?

How did you install Office 2010 (network/disk) did it complete properly? Did some one try a restore to previous date?

If you decide to edit the registry back it up first so you can have a restore point. One miss edit in the registry can cause you to re imaging the entire system.

Solve : Deciding on an internet provider?

Answer»

Having just been relocated I set out to find what providers there are in the area. It seems to two most prevalent providers are jet broadband and a hughes satellite internet.

My son does a large amount of gaming so what I need to know is how fast of internet should I be looking at? Hughes satellite internet seems to go up to 5 mbp/s for a rather hefty fee of around $350. Jet broadband tops out at 8 mbp/s(download) and 640kbp/s (upload) for a more reasonable price.

Another QUESTION I have would be what kind of bottlenecks would he encounter, if any, purchasing the highest end packages from either company. Would the upload/download speeds be affected significantly by his hardware?

Are there any specific pros/cons to satellite internet that should be considered before looking at it is a viable medium for gaming?

Thanks in advance for the help, and I'm sorry for the amount of questions in this single topic

Any other information you may find helpful to me is welcome to, thanks again. One thing, for gaming, is to find out what kind of ping you can get from the different providers. Usually broadband will pretty good pings from my experience.

I don't see the BANDWIDTH becoming an issue. Are you going to be doing anything besides gaming that you would need more bandwidth? The only thing I can see is if you are running a website from your house in which you will need a lot of upload bandwidth.

Overall, assuming the gaming is the only thing you are worrying about besides normal downloading/browsing, I would recommend broadband for the more reasonable price.Unless things have changed in the past two years I wouldn't even consider getting a connection thru a satellite if you are going to be gaming. I called Hughes about using their service for gaming and they straight up told me that I would be better off sticking with my dial up I had at the time.Thank both of you for your help.

After a little bit more research (and learning hughes clearly isn't the best option) I've learned that VERIZON also offers dsl in the area. The speed seems to go as far as 3mbps for the verizon service which brings up the question again. Would that speed be suitable for gaming? I'd rather not have to deal with an angry TEENAGER in the new home, so I'm hoping you can shed some light on the issue.

Thanks again for all the help and dealing with my clear lack of knowledge in the field.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to answer da8686's questions. The internet would be used primarily for my son's gaming and the occasional surfing (and asking for help here) as far as it goes for me. Quote

Hughes satellite internet seems to go up to 5 mbp/s for a rather hefty fee of around $350.
Is that per month? I don't think the bandwidth at 3mbps will be an issue. Gaming is much more dependent on lag and ping. I used DSL in my area and it was great for gaming. I think either the verizon or the Jet service will be sufficient for gaming. This is assuming the services that are provided are good services that live up to the specs they specify. I agree with a few of the earlier posters that the satelite is not WORTH the money and may actually be worse for what you are looking to do.

Solve : Email settings questions?

Answer»

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post in. I'm not SURE which is the correct place.
You can move the post if it's wrong.

Anyways, here is the question-
I've got these instructions below, but not understanding a part of it, so first here is the instructions and I'll then say what it is I'm not understanding.
POP3 Settings:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [emailprotected]
Password: The password you USUALLY use to SIGN in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

In the above instructions, for the user name section, do I need to type it out like they have it [emailprotected] or do I just type yourname? and not the @hotmail.com part? because I thought the username was the THING that comes before the @
So, that is what I'm confused about.
so like if my email address is [emailprotected] do I type it out like that or do I just type amy?
I WOULD have thought it's the whole thing - "[emailprotected]" (minus the quote marks of course). Given that "[emailprotected]" and "[emailprotected]" for example, could be owned by two different people, it seems logical.

Solve : RDP to 2 different computers behind single IP presence and router w/forwarding?

Answer»

Trying to FIGURE out how to access 2 different systems both running Windows XP Pro SP3 RDP Terminal Services at home from elsewhere while on the ROAD with single point of presence out to net of IP from ISP to my modem of say 65.96.10.220 ( not my actual IP )

I was able to easily get one working via setting up port forwarding at my router for the IP 192.168.100.3 and the RDP ports, but with 2 sytems behind the router both of which are accepting RDP connections, how do you designate with Windows XP Pro SP3 which system you want to connect to from the outside with only a single IP.

I am guessing that maybe I will have to assign a unique port for each system to communicate through so that I could call the systems by IP:port and say the FIRST system is 5900 and the second system is 5901 so that you could designate from the outside IP:port as to which system you want to access remotely.

But havent seen where the Windows RDP service can take an alternate port configuration...or is there an easier way than defining a port specific for each system? Maybe I am doing it the hard way.

Currently, I have been CONNECTING to one and then accessing the other through VNC, but I am thinking that there is a better way in which I can access both systems maybe by IP: Custom Ports from on the road.Assigning a different RDP listening port is documented here; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306759

Solve : Anybody know what brand this is??

Answer»

Image attached. Can't for the life of me figure out what brand ROUTER this is.

All I know is it's still set to the default username/password and the goal is the change it for them.

EDIT: I cannot see the router because they have it locked away to prevent people from "stealing their internet"...

I told them this won't work; and proved it my accessing it via my laptop. So Now I've been asked to enable some form of security on the FELLOW. They say they haven't changed anything like a router password but they won't let me see it (they think it's some kind of game or something)

[attachment deleted by admin]SEARCH for 192.168.11.1 IP yields BUFFALO G54 router.Search for buffalo yields food.

ok- geek helped me out through a PM. why a PM I haven't a clue, but he came to the same conclusion as you, Broni.

I did as well, since that brand uses "root" for the username, and I only tried various combinations of "admin".According to this site: http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html, the deafult username is root, and none for password, or admin for username, and password for password. With root as a username, the password should be left blank.Alright- I'm going to try both on wednesday when I go back there. thanks for the help SURE thing

i can run the internet perfectly fine but it keeps searching for a device to connect to and when this happens i GET disconnected, because of this i can only run the internet in 2-5min bursts.

This problem occurred out of the blue i have not changed any of the settings and it has worked fine for 5/6 months now. it happened when i my computer to stand by and it turned itself off. If i try to let windows manage my wireless it wont connect at all, or SAYS its connected to an unsecured network of the same name but i cant access the internet, even though my network is secure. and i am accessing my router as i can tell from the router light blips are in time with me doing things.

i have tried a restart, virus scan both have had no effect. i use norton for my scanner, and am running windows XP pro Sp3. i use INTEL proset wireless to connect manage my wireless connections.

Solve : Wireless network set up problems!?

Answer»

Im RUNNING a Dell Inspiron 9400 with XP, service pack 2.

I tried connecting a formatted PC (COMPLETELY back to shop standard) to the internet via my ORANGE Livebox router and was looking around the settings on the WIRELESS enabled laptop when suddenly I lost connection. I am pretty sure I didn't adjust any settings. I am no phased with the limited or no connectivity. I know it's not the Liveboxs fault as net works perfectly with ethernet cable. I tried Orange and they are as helpful as a chocolate fireguard. I've tried rebooting both laptop and livebox neither works. Is there any way I can do a system restore back to the sucessful settings on the router?

Any help much APPRECIATED,

J.If you look through the router's settings, there should be an option to go back to default settings or factory settings.

Might be helpful to know what kind of router it is though.

Solve : How do i make a Batch file that will connect to a Wifi..?

Answer»

Hello I got this Modem with 7.2 Mbit connection and when IM in school some of my friends want to join a NETWORK i've created so they can access the internet through my computer. So to spare myself from showing them how to CONNECT to the network i created, i want to create a Batchfile which does it for them, is that possible and if it is, then how ? i will really appreciate your help.http://www.google.com.hk/search?hl=en&q=batch+file+connect+to+internet&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=I still cant find what im looking for with that link you gave me.Then it seems like you can't do it.

It is perhaps possible in another language, but certainly not Batch files, and I'm afraid I don't know.

Someone else may have an answer, but how hard is it to explain to them how to connect to the Internet?Well YE i could just tell them how to but i cant be ARSED to say the same thing 6-10 times -_- but i guess i have to, thought there would be some fast little script which could do it for them. Thanks anywaysGive a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.

Solve : Port fowarding.?

Answer»

I had another computer set up for port fowarding for an online game and wanted to set this one up too for the same game so I went into my router settings (o2 wireless box) and changed them so both were fowarded, now the other computer's ports aren't fowarded.

Under NETWORK Connections I have THING called Internet gateway with my IP and ports in like in the SCREENSHOT. The other computer now doesn't have this but it did. So currently only the ports on this computer are being forwarded though according to my router both COMPUTERS ports are.

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8729/portfowarding.png

OS:Windows XP (both computers)
Router: O2 Wireless box (A type of Thomson router I think)
Both computers are wireless connected to the router.

Thanks for any help. From that picture it states 'Name of the computer that is hosting this service on your NETWORK' - so I think it's setup so that the current system is running that service for all computers on the network and not individually.

Does the other system now no longer connect to the online game? Does the game's support site offer an additional port that you could use instead? The other two Coh2 and Coh3 - are these templates you created to try adding another setting or could you use them as additional rules to add?

Solve : Strange Internet problem?

Answer»

ok now i'm a first time poster. (never needed any tech SUPPORT ever) so i'll try to be as descriptive as possible.

Basic problem: Recently had problems with my phone line (no internet either but i could still access my modem page), had my ISP/Teleco fix them, and when they did i had no access to my internet or modem page. (i'm not the only admin on this computer so i'll assume the other admin messed up with it somewhere)

TroubleShooting done so FAR:

 • tested with a friends laptop and everything worked without a problem.
 • replaced my network card (installed and working fine, same as the old one)
 • gone through all the settings and everything is on default.
 • when attempting to ping my modem it times out
 • when attempting to view my modem homepage it times out
 • windows firewall is disabled
 • sygate firewall is disabled
 • all windows services are started
 • i'm 99% sure my brother hasn't messed around with the registry at all
 • its using an ethernet connection, also tried it with the usb cord too

now something strange
internet and everthing works in safe mode.

sorry if this did not make alot of sense, but in my ... opinion it is not sometihng hardware related, since internet works in safe mode (with networking).
so it must be sometihng windows related...

any ideas?

feel free to ask more questions. In safe mode some kinds of enamelware can not function.
Otherwise you have something that is messing with you LAN card, but does not run in safe mode.
Try this:
Create a new user account with admin level.
Log on as that user.
Set up the network Wizard again.
Now try the internet, both modes.
Does it do the same thing?tried and done, works in safe more but not normal mode for the new log inThat is not so good. I was thinking profile corruption.
Safe mode lets you do less things, not more things.

So we now think you have a virus. Here on this forum there are people that can do a Hijack log, but I am not one of them. My first recommendation is to download the new version of malwarebytes and do a scan in both safe mode and normal. They recommend normal, but IME that real bad stuff you only find in safe mode.

It is a great site, but please come back here and LET us know what you find.

Solve : unable to read IP adress lost/broken?

Answer»

They prob. have a post somewhere in here on this but unable to find, So any help would be great

OK here goes, Wife removed my modem for my pc. put it on another in the house (worked fine), power went out and back on in this time. My pc was still hooked to my d-link router when power went out. Now my IP address is gone, seems to have copied the d-link or some other ip starting with 169.

I have tried everything to fix, even restored pc to factory default just like it was new out of the box. Still nothing, can someone help. I dont want to pay someone 200 dollars to fix something that I could do.. Ive done it all uninstalled everything and such
this is my desktop pc not laptop.
Is this a D-Link (brand DSL wireless modem router?
Which model number?
Does each Desktop have a wired Ethernet connection to the router?

I most cases, when something hax ruined the connectivity you would do just this:
Power up the modem again.
Power up the PC.
Find the network connection of the wired network and disable, wait, enable the connection. Or try repair.
Or do the network wizard over again.
Or do a Hard Reset of the D-link modem. Look in the quick install guide for this.

After a Hard reset, only ONE PC should be plugged into the router until you finishe the setup. Go through the recommended setup method all over again.

This is not often an issue of software corruptions. It is just about the way Windows and Routers talk to each other.
If someone else seup the router for you, hope he left instructions on how it was configured for your SYSTEM.

yes dlink is brand of wireless router, it is nolonger hooked to pc, running just off cable modem now, but problem is still there. The other pc is not on my network. my pc is alone. I have done all the ipconfig release/renew things. with still no luck.OK. You have a DSL modem only on the phone line and on one computer with the Ethernet cable. Right?
Or is this a Cable modem?
Is the DSL Modem on of the little Motorola junk things that they make to pay $50 for and has a 30 warranty and fails in six months? Hope not.
Do you know the IP of the modem?
Do you have the original setup guide? You nay have to do the whole thing over again. I guess you get on the internet now from some other method, but you want the thing working the way it was.
Or did you say the modem works OK, but the router does not?
Sory, I have trouble reading, so I had to strike that out. (I can not get my bottle of white out to work here. )

You have to go into the setup for tghe D Link router. Which model?
Do you recall that you had to change the default IP of the DLink router? That is a common problem for a certain model of the Dlink wireless router when running behind a ATT style SINGLE port modem. Is ATT your provider? What I did was to have ATT COME out and verify my DSL connection and buy a new modem/router from them for $80 rather than pay for a tech to come out and set me up again.
As I recall, the modem has to be the gateway and the modem and the router have to be in the sub mask thing. The sub mask thing is the 255.255..0 you see.
On you wife's machine, run CMD and them do IPCONFIG. That will give you some numbers

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.75
SUBNET Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Now if your DLink is at 198.168.0.1 then it will not work in the
network.
You will need to set the Dlink to an address inside that subnet.
Maybe 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.200
Whatever, don't forget it. The Dlink should get a feed from the modem into the WAN and wife PC in the LAN.
I recall that the router has to let the gateway do the DCHP thing. The modem is the gateway.
And IE has to allow auto proxy.
Let me know if any of this helps.
You don't have to get a new modem router, but I did that, even though I have a working system before.
There's mo' , but tat's 'nuf fo now.

, multimedia audio controller, USB controller, video controller So it show the network card right?

Alan <>< I have a network ADAPTER. But that dosent have a ! Mark by itWhen you bought your computer it should have came with a drivers disk. You need to run that disk. Chipset drivers go first.Quote from: Spoiler on March 30, 2009, 12:43:08 PM

I would suggest that you buy the restore disks.

It soulds like your NIC isn't setup right. Do you have the right drivers installed for it?

Co sign,

You say the wireless isn't picking up and your cat 5 cable is connected into the ethernet port YET still not reading the internet it might be the card.

I experienced a problem like this earlier today and it was hell trying to figure it out

when I do ipconfig /renew is just freezes

Now this part I'm stomped on, I ASSUME its because your card may be curropt and its affecting the transaction of packets (data) flowing to and from the ethernet port connected. So I was taking to my ccnd teacher today and he said it might be my drivers. So I also Hooke my laptop up to his iternet and it worked fine. I'm so fricken confused. I'm USING the same cord as my 360 so I know it's not the Internet but at the same tim I know it's not my hardware/softwareAlright so i was at my SCHOOL yesterday and i thought of something. Maybe i cant run my internet through my xbox 360 ethernet cord. So i hooked a normal ethernet cord up to my laptop and that *censored* worked. I was pissed but happy at the same time. So a lesson to you all dont use 360 cords because they dont work.

Solve : Disable ADSL internet connection while travelling?

Answer»

Hello,

I use a ADSL internet CONNECTION at home. Am currently travelling and using a WIFI connection for a few months. Works fine, but the "Connect to ADSL" log-in window keeps appearing while surfing in Firefox..can be clicked away with cancel but is a bit annoying. Thought about deleting the connection entirely, but I'll want to get it back eventually..can't SEE how to disable this in Firefox or NETWORK Connections....any help?

JMIs this windows Vista or XP? If vista, right-click the network icon in the taskbar and click "network and sharing center". On the left click "manage network connections". In the window that pops up, right click the network adapter you do not NEED and click "disable". You can always enable it again when you need it. PRETTY similar to how you do it in XP.

Solve : Internet speed via router question?

Answer»

Ok, I hope my questions is not to complicated but here it goes.

I recently got road runner internet with turbo boost which can max out at 15000 kbs or 15 mb per second. I had the router hooked to my xbox 360 via wire and then to my desktop computer via wireless. In the bottom right of the screen where it has the little computer icon to display your internet connection it was telling me I was getting 135.0 mbs. It was very fast and doing fine. Now here is the problem.

My roommate started connecting his computer to the router and was having problems. His friend came over who knows a lot about computers and TRIED to connect his computer to the router via wireless but could not get it to work. By the end of this process my speed WENT down to 65.0 mbs from 135.0 mbs. Is that normal to drop that much? Even after my roommate shut his computer down and was completely disconnected from the net, shouldnt my speed go back up to display 135.0 mbs??? Because it has not.

I believe that my roommate told his friend to tweak the router a certain way to only allow me so much bandwith even when he is not on. Is that possible?

If anyone can ANSWER these for me it would really help.
Thanksif they were having connection problems it migt have been because the router is a wireless-N router, and your PC has a wireless-N card- but your friend is stuck with Wireless-G.

HIS friend probably changed to router SETUP (which you can put a password on, by the way) to only allow Wireless-G clients, so now your PC is connecting via Wireless-G instead of the faster Wireless-N.

However since neither 65mbps or 135mbps are standard wireless speeds, I don't know...My FRIENDS labtop is a couple years old BUT our router is the Linksys WRT300N and it puts out both N and G signals.

About the speeds I meant we get 15-18 mbs. Quote from: cadethebigshow on April 01, 2009, 05:23:20 PM

Linksys WRT300N and it puts out both N and G signals.

That can be changed in the setup to only be Wireless-G, or Wireless-A or B.

Thanks for letting us know....Now what?

You want a solution to your dilemma? yes please but this is funny the thing is that the cable wasnt fullly connected. The only thing is that I USED the help and a book about it still not having it workAre you connecting with a crossover or a hub/switch or multiple hubs?

If only one hub/switch, try having all the machines on separate static IPs

Also, make sure all of the workgroup names are the same.okay heres the thing there all connected to a single hub and run xp and 2000 so I'm not sure how to config the ip staticly. I used the network wizard and such.At the dekstop you can see NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD,right click - PROPERTIES, Scroll down click twice the TCP / IPyeah, the thing is that I am not near it at the moment but I know were you meandid you enable the IPX/SPX protocol? if still not working, check out also NetBios or is it NetBeui protocol. some older machine need this enabled to WORKS with XP.okay I'll check that. I had looked at it and it is greyed out but It is on.I googled it, hopfully that will work then.

Solve : NAS Hard Drive?

Answer»

Hello, im looking for some help.

Iv just brought a Freecom 1tb External Hard Drive, with USB 2.0 and LAN Connection.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use both the USB and the LAN connection at the same time?

i want to be able to have it connected to a PS3 VIA USB and connected to a wireless router via LAN so i can access the hard drive on my laptop.probably not, SINCE there is no way to mitigate the two devices during accesses- such as if your PS3 and your laptop are trying to access data at the same time.

One solution, however, might be to (assuming you can get the PS3 on the same network as the laptop), to set of a shared folder or Shared media SOURCE on the external drive. I'm not SURE now PS3's look at networks or wether they support viewing/manipulating of shared FOLDERS, though.

Solve : question about Windows Firewall (Windows XP)?

Answer»

Today I had a heck of a time setting up a shared printer on two XP (serv. pack 3) computers.
Aside from the HARDWARE firewall that is already protecting the computers from the Internet, each PC also has Windows Firewall installed.

The computer with the printer attached to it, had the port ENABLED in the "Advanced" firewall options, to allow File and Printer Sharing. However, I could not for the life of me, GET the other computer to connect to the printer.

I finally just disabled Windows Firewall completely on the computer with the printer attached, and tried again to connect to the printer from the other computer and it worked!

Anyone know why disabling the firewall worked....I mean, isn't it suppose to work if "File and Printer Sharing" is allowed through the firewall, with out totally disabling it??

Well, Microsoft is not much help.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_wfintro.mspx

But you should have the firewall on.

Maybe after a day or so it will work as it should. Well the use of windows firewall is to protect your computer from viruses and also from other computers that wants to send you some files or anything. For example let's say you want to play warcraft with another friend ENABLING firewall won't connect you to your friend meaning you have to off it so that you can connect to him. Also we have a computer shop and my computer the server has its firewall off so that people can send their files if they want to print something because i didn't share the printer.windows firewall status for me: completely disabled.

I have literally disabled the Security center. I'm tired of it constantly whining "YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE AT RISK". So I disabled it.

as FAR as FIREWALLS my router has a good one.

Solve : Bad Wireless Card??

Answer»

Before I go out and buy a new WIRELESS card I thought might throw out my problem and see if someone has an idea.

Using XP SP3, Zone Alarm firewall and a Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card and Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO Router with a DSL connection and using WPA. The card is about 5 years old.

I have discounted the possibility of the router being a source of the problems because my laptop is with an INTEL wireless card is having no problems whatsoever. Signal strength and speed are excellent.

Last week I put in a new mobo. No problems with the wireless card for the first few days then starting about 4 days ago I started seeing the data speed rate slowly decrease until the connection would finally drop. The signal strength remained "very good" to "excellent". Using the Windows wireless connection repair function I could reconnect. Sometimes it took a while. Then the cycle would start again.

Yesterday I could not connect at all to the network. The card detected the network. It was set to automatically connect to the network. The Belkin self-diagnostic test said the card passed all tests. The card's drivers are current. But it would not connect. Little windows monitor in task BAR had a big red X all day.

This morning the card connected, or said it did. Signal strength and speed are showing very good. BUT no data is being passed. Thunderbird e-mail cannot connect to the pop server. Firefox says can't find server. Anti-virus says it can't get updates. Repair connection function does nothing.

Things I have tried with no success:

--Tried with firewall turned off. No difference.

--Double checked card set to automatically get IP address. It is.

--Tried windows troubleshooter recommended static IP address. No difference.

--Tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew. Yesterday wouldn't do anything because it showed "media disconnected." Today it cleared no difference.

--Checked card drivers. They are good.

--Checked device manager for hardware conflicts. No conflicts.

--Tried with WPA disabled. No difference.

I was in and out of my case a lot in the past two weeks. I am thinking maybe I just damaged the contacts on the card when I was pulling it in and out to move it out of the way while doing other things.

Forgot to add I have also tried uninstalling all the software, physically removing the card and then reinstalling everything. That didn't work either.Quote from: kaigun on March 23, 2009, 12:36:04 PM

from what I gathered by skimming through your book I'm assuming the problem is your not getting a connection into your wifi,

Basically your data packets have no way of being sent or recieved on your computer onto the network,

its like a 2 road highway with a road block in the middle. That block is blocking traffic from flowing like its suppose to, which would be your card.

Its smart to just replace it
You have my permission to go buy a new 802.11 Wireless card.
Tell your MOTHER an experienced Technician confirmed that this is a classic example of an old Wireless card failing due to component aging.
Repair of the card is not practical. A good replacement card can be found for about 15 to 35 dollars in the USA. Avoid those that are "On Sale", unless you know it was overstock, not a defect.
You have done an excellent job of trying all the practical tests that can be done.without laboratory equipment. Good Job!

By the way, the USB dongles are good for general use and are cheaper that the PCI cards The USB wireless works just as good, but a shorter range.Quote from: Geek-9pm on March 30, 2009, 10:51:27 PM

Trust me, I'm well past the age of asking permission from my mother

It's good to know I gave the troubleshooting a good shot. That makes me feel better since I gave up and bought a new card the other day. It's working great.

Thanks again.

Good. Glad you got it done.
What to do with the bad card? Try this:
Put some felt on the trace side of the card and use for a coaster for you hot cup of coffee. Makes a good conversation piece. Tel your friends at the local coffee house that you are in University experiment. They want to measure the rate of heat loss in a cup of coffee in real-time and the antenna is sending data back to the University.

Solve : Slow internet and registry problems????

Answer»

Without ruling out the little things you are PRETTY much just running in circles...True...Gershuni,

What kind of wireless do you have?
Like is it the USB modems like the one's Verison sells?
Or is yours an access point in an apartment?access point in my apartmentdo you think i need a BETTER wireless card?Your wireless card is probably not the problem, since your getting Wifi from your apartment, the actual connection splits into multiple access point around your apartment which means that the bandwidth(amount of data sent through in a certain amount of time). That in turn means that there may be other users of that same connection.

This is common of Apartment Wifi Connections, if you wanted a faster internet connection you could try Satellite, Cable, or DSL depending upon if your Apartment management allows it.I live on a house so no problem there but I already have a cable connection which I pick up through wifi. Are there any other users of that same connection?yes, 2 or three at any given time.Depending upon their amount of use on that connection, it may give you slow downs, especially if they're uploading/downloading ALOT of files. Thanks for all of you help. Are there optimum settings on my laptop for faster internet speed? You can't change your connection speed, but if you wanted faster speed you could try asking your ISP(Internet Service Provider, e.g Comcast) for a Faster Connection.thanks for EVERYTHING. Solve : parental control filter from ISP blocking children's playstation and wii?

Answer»

hi...i am new to this forum and do appreciate any and all who take the time to RESPOND to my request. i have recently added the family filter (provided by my dsl company) to my dsl line. we are having a problem in that it is also blocking our wii and playstation from connecting to other players on the internet. it is also blocking my google SIDEBAR. i need help trying to connect to these applications. my dsl company SAYS it has nothing to do with them because their filter only blocks the web browser but these applications did not start to have connectivity problems until the day we added the filter. please help!

amatullahWho is your ISP?

Some of them do actually block specific ports so P2P downloading and online gaming isn't possible. May be worth checking their T's & C's on their homepage to SEE what is supported in your package deal. Thanks a bunch. I will try it out and hopefully GET back to you with a positive result. Thanks again.

amatullahWhy not uninstall the filter and see if things work again. If they do than call you ISP and have them walk you though the install of the filter and show you how to set it so your stuff works.

Solve : how do I check these settings?

Answer»

I am hoping someone here maybe able to help on how to check these settings. I got an email back from Webkinz on a problem I wrote to them about, and they responded, but I don't know how to do the things they said to check for.
Here is what the email said-
You wrote to us about not being able to connect to the server when trying to use the kinzchat phone or going into the clubhouse. This feature also affects the Tournament Arena and KinzPost.
Please make sure that all of your pop up blockers are off. If you have a router, please make sure that the HTTP port 80 is OPEN and the FTP port 21 is open.
If this still does not fix the problem, contact your internet service provider to check that your security settings on your modem are not set too 'high'.

I NOTICED one of the things it says is if you have a router what to do. Yes, we do have a router. Just got one about a year or so ago when we switched from Earthlink Dialup Internet to Bellsouth DSL. My nephew and his dad are who set it up for us when we switched to DSL. we are doing it wired too from my computer to my mom's.
Oh and it's a Linksys Broadband Router model number is WRT54G.
The modem we have is a westell that Bellsouth sent us the model number is WSTL6100C.

Thanks,
Amy

Hi,

What you have to do to check if your pop-up blocker is disabled is if you have internet explorer, go to the top of the screen and click on tools and there should be an option for the pop-up blocker. There should be an option inside of the pop-up blocker menu that says turn off pop-up blocker. For your router, you should be able to enter the configuration of it by typing the default ip of your router which is usually 192.168.1.1 but it would differ if you changed it. If you have a username and password set on the router it will ask you for it but if not it is usually username:admin password:password then in the router configuration go to access restrictions and scroll down to the blocked application list and check if those ports are on the list. for the Security I would just do what they say and call your ispI can't seem to get in at all.
What do you mean when you say the username is usually username:admin and the password is password:password?
Is that how I type it out? with those marks : between word username and admin and
the same again for the password section password:password LIKE that?

Hi amy,

I have a linksys router, but it is the BESFX41 model. Should be similar to what you got at least for settings editing since we both got a linksys router.

I am going to ASSUME that you have not changed any settings on router.

1. Go to 192.168.1.1 (type this into address bar of your web browser, and open it like you go to any standard website)

2. For me, a login box would appear which asks for username and password. In the place where you type a username, I would leave blank and in the password box, type admin (So you no username and admin is the password ... If this is not working, maybe you ask your nephew and his dad to see if they changed username/password or they can assist you in your troubleshooting)

3. When you reach the control panel, click Application & gaming. Click on "UPnP Forwarding" then find FTP 21 and HTTP 80. Make sure you click on the enable checkbox to the right of the FTP21 and HTTP 80 lines.

4. Hit save settings on the bottom of the page. For me, it will say that settings successfully saved and will go back to the previous page in 10 seconds, maybe you get something different but i don't know what you will see.

5. Reset computer and try your website again!

At least, this is how it works for my router, hope it works for you
Thank you very much for all the great instructions on what to do.

Looks like this hacker has changed the router password and everything too. Both MINE and my mom's computers keep getting hacked so much and full of spyware, viruses, all the stuff. Right before Christmas had another new repairman out due to a problem on my computer coming up with some locked thing. After the repairman left, we thought it was fixed, but it came up saying computer was locked again.
Both me and my mom would like to learn more about computer stuff so that we don't have to keep calling repairmen every time we have a problems.
See we don't even know a thing about the registry. How do you even get to it, and then when you do, what stuff is suppose to be there and not be there.

I am sorry you're having all the trouble. I would be sure your computer has antivirus protection. Avira, AVG and AVAST all have free versions for the basic virus protection which updates at least once a day. Only need one antivirus protection.

Then make sure you have firewall enabled, allowing only your trusted applications to access internet. Windows vista has an ok firewall already included with the operating system, else you can get commodo firewall. Jujst google commodo firewall and it will show up the download site.

I'd do a reformat of your computer and new operating system installation but it would require you to backup all files you want to save before reformatting and also you'd have to reinstall all programs and files you want on your computer which can be a bit tedious if you got a lot of those so I'd consult your nephew and his dad to see what they can do to help you guys out or ask a malware guy here if you want help troubleshooting through malware or viruses or something or for general in depth computer cleanup or assistance (look up Broni or Evilfantasy on this forum) before you do so if you want a 2nd opinion other than what you've seen so far posted.

Solve : WEP Printer on WPA Network, possible??

Answer»

Hi.
Is there ANYTHING at all that can get the printer to work WIRELESS on the network?
Here is what I know.

The printer is WEP not WPA. The network is WPA-PSK and WOULD like to stay that way.

Is there anything that can be bought or done to allow this printer to work wireless on the network?
If the printer is WEP then the network has to be set to a WEP password as it won't recognise the WPA standard.

Or you'll need to get a newer printer that accepts WPA.Seems I forgot what I already knew.
Ok, this is the flavors available...

USE a wireless G USB print server or hardwire.
Think I will just run the extra wire and spare the expense of more hardware.

Thanks.

Solve : Thomson TG585 V7 and Toshiba Satellite Pro A10?

Answer»

Hi guys, This is my first posting on this forum, and I am hoping that someone will be able to help me out with an annoying situation that I have.
I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 which I have used for many years with a Belkin wireless adaptor pushed into the side. I have just signed up with PlusNet and installed a Thomson TG585 V7 router and they talk to each other, but I cannot connect to he internet. After many wasted hours I decided to ring them and explain the situation, and after the guy had gone through all the settings etc. he tells me that the problem is with the belkin adaptor?? I explained that it works everywhere else except through his Thomson router. Anyway, after 30Min's or so, I gave up and have tried to reconfigure just about everything, but no joy. I am using Window XP Pro, service pack 2, and Windows Explorer 7.
Any help and advice would be very welcome. Thanks in advance. If your computer is showing you're connected...

1. Can you send/receive e-mail?
2. Are you just having a problem with your browser accessing web pages?
3. Check your firewall to see that it is not blocking port 80.Hi, No, I cannot send or receive e-mails, nor can I browse the internet. I have checked the firewall but cannot find out how to check if it is being blocked. How do you do that?

The Thomson box is flashing as if it is connected to the net, but my laptop cannot open anything??

Regards.Does your Belkin adapter show you're connected? Look in the system tray for a wireless network icon. If it's there...place your mouse pointer over it to see if you have any connectivity. If not...right click the wireless network icon and select Repair.

Let us know the status after you attempt the repair.

As far as your firewall...

What firewall software are you using?

On another note...you stated you gave someone a ring...

Who did you speak to and what did they go over with you? What settings did you check...those of the router...or those of the adapter?

What Belkin adaptor do you use?

Please answer all the questions in your next POST, please.Hi again, what a lot of questions!
My Belkin adaptor shows the flashing green light, (as if it is connected)
It is shown in my system tray, and when you try to repair it, it says that it cannot continue., please contact your administrator.
The firewall is Windows own, as I use AVG antivirus software, 8.5 edition.
I spoke to Plusnet, my broadband supplier who informed me that evrything their end was okay? He asked me to check my Belkin adaptor and then decided that that was okay, so we then moved onto the settings in the computer with regards to something about 192.168.1.245 My computer gave different readings and he then decided that the Laptop was not compatible with the Thomson router box! Now I may not be an expert on wireless, but I thought that all computers, as long as they had a wireless card built in or otherwise, would work. You see, it works with my next door neighbours, my friends a few miles away, and when I visit some hotels, they supply me with wireless as well, so I am confused.
I use a Belkin G Notebook Network Card. Many thanks. 1) Go to Start and click on Control Panel.

2) Control Panel window will appear. Double click on Network Connections.

3) Network Connections window will appear. Right click correct Local Area Connection by identifying correct network card and click Properties.

4) Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Click on Properties.

If you have DHCP server setup on your router or you have DHCP server in home network, your computer can be assigned IP address automatically by selecting Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click OK.

You may need to reboot your computer after making these changes.

Also, here's a link to PlusNet's site for information on how to setup and configure your router. I don't know which router you have from PlusNet...so, you'll have to choose the one from this page: Broadband - Help & Support

Keep us posted as to your progress, please...Hi again, well I tried that, changed my settings as you explained, but still no joy. All I get in the bottom tray is a green screen that says the following: Wireless Network Connection 3 (PlusnetWireless)
Speed: 48 Mps
Signal Strength: Excellent

and then next to it, is a computer screen with a little cursor that keeps moving from left to right as it tries to connect. After a few Min's. it shows a yellow triangle with the same message as above, but with the addition of: Status: Limited or No connectivity.

Where do I go from here?
Regards. What model Belkin adapter do you have?

If you changed the settings...what you may want to try is a repair on the wireless connection, again. Remember? Right-click the wireless network icon in the system tray and select Repair.

You can also try turning off the modem...then turning off the router. Wait 30 seconds...and turn the router back on. After the router recycles...turn the modem back on...and check your connectivity, again.

When you view available networks...do you see the connection to PlusNet?

If worse comes to worse...try connecting your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable to see if you're still having the same problem.

If PlusNet helped you configure the router settings...then there should be a wireless network connection called PlusNet...unless you named it something else. I'm giving you this information from their MANUAL I supplied to you in my previous post. If the router is configured properly, you may need to run the Wizard that came with your Belkin wireless adapter...but without the model number...I can't point you in the right direction.

For more information about your firewall: Windows FirewallHi again,

My Belkin is a Wireless G Notebook Network Card (Belkin 802.11g Network Adaptor)

I have tried resetting the router, still the same, tried to repair, still the same,
It shows that the Plusnet Wireless is on with a speed of 54Mbps, and a signal strength is excellent. If you look at the little computer screen next to it, it says the same as above, but limited or no connectivity.
Now I have borrowed next doors laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650) and set that up manually through my Thomson router, and that is working without any problems, SO, the router must be working, but not through my Toshiba.
I have also borrowed another router and set that up on the Dell, no problem, but it will not accept the Toshiba?? Why not? I have even tried it with the ethernet cable, but still no joy? I am completely mystified now! Did you connect your computer to your router with an ethernet cable? What are your results?

Is your Belkin wireless adapter a F5D7010 or a F5D7011?Hi again,

Yes, as I said in my previous posting, I connected the computer direct to the Thomson router via the suppled ethernet cable and still got the same result, no connection.

My Belkin adaptor is a F5D7011

Regards.I know you've stated this seems like a lot of questions, but to me they need to be asked...and I don't see anyone else jumping in. It looks like your ISP, nor Belkin were able to help...and this may take some time to get figured out. It may even be something small that I'm over looking.

Anyway...here's something I want you to try:

1. Connect your laptop directly to the modem (bypassing the router). Can you browse the internet and/or check e-mail after doing this?

2. When you open your browser, do you get any web pages? If not, I need to know what the browser returns when trying to access a web page.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7 to browse the internet...check its connection settings: Open Tools/Internet Options and then click the Connections tab and make sure Never dial a connection is selected. Apply your changes and try again.

See attached for the above settings.

If worse comes to worse...try uninstalling/re-installing your Belkin wireless network adapter.

I APOLOGIZE if this seems like ti's taking a long time...but at least you have someone who is trying to help.

Keep me/us posted...

[attachment deleted by admin]Not a problem about all the questions, I just hope that I can get to the bottom of the problem.
Yes, I can connect to the internet via the modem without any problems, browse and read my e-mails etc.
Have also re-installed my Belkin adaptor and re-set the router and changed the filter, but still no joy.
Regards. If you don't mind me jumping in here; I've got a question.

You said that your neighbor's Dell worked with your wireless network. If possible, can you gain access to that laptop again and look for the following:
Assuming it's XP, Right Click the Wireless icon in the system tray and go to Status.
Click on View Wireless Networks.
Click on CHANGE Advanced Settings.
Choose the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the window.
Find your wireless network, click on it, and click on the Properties button.
In the Association tab, what is it's Network Authentication and Data Encryption?

Now do the same with your laptop.Hi there,
Problem I have is that the wireless on both laptops are setup via the Wireless cards, and not via Windows. I.E The Dell has a Philips Network adaptor and my Toshiba has a Belkin. Both have icons in the tray, so if I right click the Philips one on the Dell, it shows PlusnetWireless, davis-wireless and DEFAULT. (davis-wireless is my neighbours) If I click the Belkin icon on my Toshiba, it shows PlusnetWireless and davis-wireless.
My neighbour told me to use his card in my computer, but he does not have the setup disc anymore so I am not sure if it will work or not?
Anyway, I have got to leave you for a couple of hours, but would appreciate any more information that might resolve my problem.
