How does a nation influence it's citizens?please help me |
|
Answer» Answer: nations have them, most have a standard national curriculum, and it seems that teachers are to some extent hired or not based upon their adherence to a vague national ideology. Then there are para-school organizations like SCOUTING, sports teams, and the like where more national values are further inculcated. In most countries there is also military service. And don’t forget rituals and holidays where national values are reinforced among adults. In the US, for example, both MEMORIAL Day and Armistice Day (now Veterans Day) changed their original purposes to become essentially militaristic holidays (which Independence Day largely is too). Thanksgiving, while not unique to the US, is a distinctive holiday there that surely reinforces certain national values. Meanwhile, school kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance and most sporting events begin with the National Anthem. Then of course there’s government control over or spin of information. Lots of facts REMAIN suppressed (“classified” in the US) while others are spun FAVORABLY by government workers. Heck, modern advertising (then called propaganda) was basically begun in the US by the government promoting WWI. I see some of the same things in other countries, where government employees issue press releases praising government agencies. And this is before we consider the countries in which major media outlets are state-owned. Throw in the suppression of dissenting views. It’s still I believe technically illegal in the US to hold a government job if you’ve ever been a communist, and the same I think goes for those with drug convictions and perhaps a few other things. Until recently, being gay was enough to disqualify a person from holding government jobs. Meanwhile, private sector employers are even more discrimatory. In the US, for example, it’s perfectly legal for employers to discriminate against prospective employees based upon their political views (and employers increasingly check social media sites to assess these aspects of employees’ lives). So there’s a lot of suppression of dissent too. In all, there’s just a lot of influence nations exert on citizens, and more than I’ve MENTIONED here.
