1 5. Explain how soil. Shipping cultivation protects the

Answer»

Answer:

SHIFTING cultivation is an agricultural SYSTEM in which plot of land are cultivated temporarily, then abandoned while post-disturbance fallow vegetation is allowed to freely grow while the cultivator moves on to ANOTHER plot. The period of cultivation is usually terminated when the soil shows signs of exhaustion or, more commonly, when the field is overrun by weeds. The length of time that a field is cultivated is usually shorter than the period over which the land is allowed to regenerate by lying fallow. This technique is often used in LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries) or LICs (Low Income Countries). In some areas, cultivators use a practice of slash-and-burn as one element of their farming cycle. Others employ land clearing without any burning, and some cultivators are purely migratory and do not use any cyclical method on a given plot. Sometimes no SLASHING at all is needed where regrowth is purely of grasses, an outcome not uncommon when soils are near exhaustion and need to lie fallow. In shifting agriculture, after two or three years of producing vegetable and grain crops on cleared land, the migrants abandon it for another plot. Land is often cleared by slash-and-burn methods—trees, bushes and forests are cleared by slashing, and the remaining vegetation is burns.

Q4. Read the article on the "Ghar Wapsi Programme" (Policy Religious of Conversion) In perhaps the biggest 'Ghar Wapsi" exercise in the state, about 150 tribal's were converted at a village in Birbhum district. According to locals, 98% of the residents of the village, close to the Jharkhand border, were Christians and all of them were converted." Almost 15 to 20 years ago, our forefathers converted to Christianity. Now, we have converted back to Hinduism," said Bani Murmu, a tribal from Birbhum district.a) What aspect of the Indian Constitution does the above passage relate to? b) Though state and religion are separate in India, yet the state can intervene. Explain this with an example.

Answer»

incident was reported from West Bengal on Wednesday.

ADVERTISING

Several Several 'ghar wapsi' CEREMONIES have been conducted in Uttar Pradesh (above) in the past few months, but the first such incident was reported from West Bengal on Wednesday.

It seems 'ghar wapsi' (reconversion) has reared its ugly head again, and this TIME, it is in West Bengal's Birbhum district. More than 100 tribal Christians were allegedly converted to Hinduism in the district on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Kharmadanga village near Suri under Rampurhat police station area as members of the ADIVASI community were reportedly converted following a religious ceremony.

Allegation were raised against the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the ideological mentor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for conducting the ghar wapsi programme. The ghar wapsi was allegedly supervised by VHP leader Jugal Kishore. The conversions reportedly took place immediately after VHP chief Praveen Togadia's programme at Rampurhat town on Wednesday.

Sources said VHP leaders claimed that the ADIVASIS were originally Hindu by faith but were enticed by the Christian missionaries using money.

"I condemn the incident. It is not proper. This was never prevalent in Bengal. The BJP is playing such tricks to incite riot and religious conflicts. They are luring away innocent tribal PEOPLE from one religion to another. They are being misguided," said Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president Anubrata Mondal.
