How did the Nawabs of Bengal improve the administration? |
Answer» t India Company’s conquest of Bengal began when a new nawab, named Siraj, challenged the increasing power of the British. Worried about recent French incursions along the coast, the British built Fort William in Calcutta, which infuriated Siraj: “You are MERCHANTS. What need have you for a fortress? Being under my protection you have nothing to fear” (Keay 299). Still, the British refused to stop building. So, in 1756, Siraj attacked Fort William in Calcutta with 30,000 troops. ONE thousand British settlers evacuated, including the military commanders, leaving one hundred or so behind. After the nawab’s soldiers easily conquered the fort, they crammed the British prisoners into a small, dark basement. The majority of the prisoners slowly suffocated to death—only 23 SURVIVED (Robins 69). A British military officer wrote a terrifying and vivid account of how he endured the “Black Hole” of Calcutta, and it created a stir back in England (Keay 300-304). The British lost Calcutta. It was a military disaster. But, the description of the treatment of the surrendered soldiers SPARKED wide spread public support for the subsequent conquest of Bengal. The East India Company’s conquest of Bengal began when a new nawab, named Siraj, challenged the increasing power of the British. It was a military disaster. But, the description of the treatment of the surrendered soldiers sparked wide spread public support for the subsequent conquest of Bengal. As it turned out, it fell to a young, impetuous, and inexperienced Company colonel, Robert Clive, to change the course of British and Indian history. Fast moving events prevented the Company directors in London from efficiently communicating orders to Clive in India. It took SIX months on average to travel or communicate one way between India and Britain, and this was an emergency (Peers 11). As the “man on the spot,” Clive from the outset dreamed of conquest: “I flatter myself that this expedition will not end with the retaking of Calcutta only—and that the Company’s estate in these parts will be settled in a better and more lasting condition than ever” |

What were the circumstances that led to the JallianwalaBagh Massacre and what was its immediate impact? plz answer asap |
Answer» (a) Circumstances that led to Jallianwala Bagh incident were. The Rowlatt Act (1919) was passed by the British government despite the united opposition of the Indian members. This Act gave enormous powers to the government to repress POLITICAL activities and allowed detention of any person without trial for two years.Gandhiii wanted non-violent civil disobedience against such unjust laws. Rallies were organised in different cities. Alarmed by the popular upsurge. British administration imposed martial law in Amritsar.Jallianwala Bagh is situated in Amritsar (Puniab). Here as a mark of protest against the Rowlatt Act. a peaceful assembly was going on. People from many surrounding villages were participating. Some came here to attend the annual Baisakhi fair. The garden where people assembled was enclosed on three sides and had only one entrance. In order to terrorise the people. General Dyer entered the park with troops. Without giving any warning to the people. he ordered his sepoys to fire at them. In this firing, many people were killed and many wounded.(b) The Khilafat Movement was launched by Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali. Gandhiji saw this as an opportunity to bring Muslims under the umbrella of a unified national movement. At the Calcutta Session of the Congress in September 1920, he convinced other leaders to start a Non-Cooperation Movement in support of KhilafatMovement. The Khilafat Movement (1919-1924). was a pan-Islamic, political protest campaign launched by Muslims in British India to INFLUENCE the British Government and to protect the Ottoman empire during the aftermath of First World War. The First World War had ended with the defeat of Ottoman Turkey. There was a fear that the power of the spiritual head of the Islamic world (Khalifa) would be curtailed. Todefend his power. a Khilafat Committee was formed in Bombay in 1919. The Khilafat leaders put pressure upon the British Government to give better treatment to Turkey. The Non-Cooperation-Khilafat Movement began in January, 1921.(c) The Non-Cooperation Movement spread to the countryside.(i) In Awadh, peasants under the leadership of Babs Ram Chandra revolted against the talukdars and the landlords who demanded very high rent and different taxes from them. The peasantdemanded reduction of revenue. abolition of begar and social boycott of oppressive landlords. In many places, local leaders told peasants that Gandhiji had declared that no taxes were to be paid and LAND was to be redistributed among the poor.(ii) In the Gudem hills of Andhra Pradesh, a Militant Guerrilla Movement spread. The colonial government had closed large forest areas which affected the livelihood of the forest people. When the government forced them to contribute begar or free labour, they revolted. Alluri Sitaram Rain inspired by Gandhiji's ideals came to LEAD them.Inspired by Gandhiji’s N on-Cooperation Movement, be PERSUADED people to wear khadi and give up drinking. But he did not believe in non-violence thus the Gudem rebels attacked police stations and carried on guerrilla warfare for achieving Swaraj.hope it helps uh. |

What was the immediate cause for World War II??Don't ask " google " thalli..!! |
Answer» Historians from many countries have GIVEN considerable attention to studying and understanding the causes of World War II, a global war from 1939 to 1945 that was the deadliest conflict in human history. The immediate precipitating event was the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany on September 1, 1939, and the subsequent declarations of war on Germany made by Britain and France, but many other prior events have been suggested as ultimate causes. Primary themes in historical analysis of the war's origins include the political takeover of Germany in 1933 by Adolf Hitlerand the Nazi Party; Japanese militarismagainst China; Italian aggression against Ethiopia; and Germany's initial success in negotiating a neutrality pact with the Soviet Union to divide territorial control of Eastern Europe between them.During the interwar period, deep anger arose in Weimar Germany regarding the CONDITIONS of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, which punished Germany for its role in the First World War with severe conditions and heavy financial reparations in order to prevent it from ever becoming a military power again. This provoked strong currents of revanchismin German politics, with complaints primarily focused on the demilitarization of the Rhineland, the prohibition of German unification with Austria, and the LOSS of some German-speaking territories and overseas colonies. The 1930s were a decade in which democracy was in disrepute; countries across the world turned to authoritarian regimes during the worldwide economic crisis of the Great Depression.[1] In Germany, resentment and hatred of other countries was INTENSIFIED by the instability of the German political system, as many activists rejected the legitimacy of the Weimar Republic. The most extreme political aspirant to emerge from this situation was Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party. The Nazis took totalitarian power in Germanybeginning in 1933 and demanded the undoing of the Versailles provisions. Their ambitious and aggressive domestic and foreign policies reflected the Nazi ideologies of anti-Semitism, unification of all Germans, the acquisition of "living space" (Lebensraum) for agrarian settlers, the elimination of Bolshevism, and the hegemony of an "Aryan"/"Nordic" master race over "sub-humans" (Untermenschen) such as Jews and Slavs. Other factors leading to the war included aggression by Fascist Italy against Ethiopia and Albania, and by Imperial Japan against much of East Asia, resulting in the invasion of Manchuria in 1931 and the gradual annexation of most of China. At first, these aggressive moves met with only feeble and ineffectual policies of appeasement from the other MAJOR world powers. The League of Nations, established after the First World War, proved helpless regarding China and Ethiopia. A decisive proximate event was the 1938 Munich Conference, which formally approved Germany's annexation of the Sudetenlandfrom Czechoslovakia. Hitler promised it was his last territorial claim, but in early 1939 he became even more aggressive, and European governments finally realized that appeasement was not guaranteeing peace. Britain and France badly fumbled diplomatic efforts to form a military alliance with the Soviet Union, and Hitler instead offered Stalin a better deal in the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pactof August 1939. An alliance formed by Germany, Japan, and Italy led to the establishment of the Axis Powers.PLEASE MARK ME AS A BRAIN LIST... |

Read the student’s introduction and write a body paragraph that follows. Student’s Introduction Paragraph: Many of the fundamental elements of Western culture first arose more than 2,000 years ago in ancient Greece. After conquering the Greeks, the ancient Romans spread Greek ideas throughout their empire, which included much of Europe. From politics and philosophy to art, medicine and science, the ancient Greeks generated thoughts that shaped the record of humankind for the next 2,500 years.
