A) What is a growth medium?b) Why does a growth medium contain hormones?Give two advantages of tissue culture.Give one big disadvantage of cloning. |
Answer» A growth medium or culture medium is a solid, liquid or semi-solid designed to support the growth of a population of microorganisms or cells via the process of cell proliferation,[1] or small plants like the moss Physcomitrella patens.[2] Different types of MEDIA are used for GROWING different types of cells.[3] The two major types of growth media are those used for cell culture, which use specific cell types derived from plants or animals, and MICROBIOLOGICAL culture, which are used for growing microorganisms, such as bacteria or fungi. The most common growth media for microorganisms are nutrient broths and agar plates; specialized media are sometimes required for microorganism and cell culture growth.[1] Some organisms, termed fastidious organisms, require specialized environments due to complex nutritional requirements. Viruses, for example, are obligate intracellular parasites and require a growth medium containing living cells. Earlier studies have shown a stimulatory effect of diabetic serum on the growth of rabbit aortic medial cell cultures. Growth media supplemented with normal serum with added insulin (50-2,000 muU./ml. serum) did not enhance the growth of the medial cell cultures. Control media containing serum from recent diabetics with low insulin concentration stimulated the growth (2p less than 0.01). Supplementation of normal serum with human growth hormone (final concentration 1-5 ng./ml. medium) resulted in a significant enhancement of growth (2p less than 0.005). The growth-promoting effect of growth hormone was not detectable with lower concentrations (0.5 ng. and 0.1 ng./ml. medium). The growth effect of the low concentration of growth hormone could not be augmented by increasing the concentration of glucose in the incubation medium. Growth hormone in an amount of 1 ng./ml. medium increased both the number of 3H-thymidine-labeled cells as identified by autoradiography and the number of mitotic bodies (2p less than 0.005 and 2 p less than 0.025). The present results demonstrate that the growth-stimulating factor(s) in diabetic human serum described earlier is not insulin but may well be growth hormone. Advantages of Tissue Culture: These techniques have certain advantages over traditional methods of propagation. They produce exact copies of plants required that have desirable traits. ... MULTIPLE plants are produced in the absence of seeds or necessary pollinators to produce seeds. List of Disadvantages of Cloning It comes with a degree of uncertainty as of yet. ... It is expected to bring about new DISEASES. ... It might lead to problems in organ rejection. ... It decreases gene diversity. ... In-Breeding. ... It can lead to disruption of parenting and family life. ... It can cause a further divide.

Answer» -Plough: a large farming implement with ONE or more BLADES fixed in a frame, drawn over the soil to turn it over and cut furrows in preparation for the planting of seeds -Hoe: A hoe is an ancient and versatile agricultural and horticultural hand tool used to shape soil, remove weeds, clear soil, and harvest root crops. Shaping the soil includes piling soil around the base of plants, digging narrow furrows, and shallow trenches for planting seeds or bulbs. -Cultivator: A cultivator is any of several types of farm implement used for SECONDARY tillage. One sense of the name refers to frames with TEETH that pierce the soil as they are dragged through it linearly. Another sense refers to machines that use rotary motion of disks or teeth to ACCOMPLISH a similar result. -Seed drill: A seed drill is a sowing device that sows the seed precisely in the soil at proper depth and distance. Then it covers them with soil. It protects the seeds from birds and saves time and labour. ... The use of a seed drill can improve the ratio of crop yield (seeds harvested per seed planted) by as much as nine times. |

What is the meaning of life? Why was the human race created? Who created life? Who created man kind, science or god? |
Answer» Explanation: The meaning of life, or the answer to the question: "What is the meaning of life?", pertains to the significance of living or existence in GENERAL. Many other related questions include: "Why are we here?", "What is life all about?", or "What is the purpose of existence?" There have been many proposed answers to these questions from many different CULTURAL and ideological backgrounds. The search for life's meaning has produced much philosophical, SCIENTIFIC, theological, and metaphysical speculation throughout history. Different people and cultures believe different things for the answer to this question. The meaning of life as we perceive it is derived from philosophical and religious contemplation of, and scientific inquiries about existence, social ties, consciousness, and happiness. Many other issues are also involved, such as symbolic meaning, ontology, value, purpose, ethics, good and evil, free will, the existence of one or multiple gods, conceptions of God, the SOUL, and the afterlife. Scientific contributions focus primarily on describing related empirical facts about the universe, exploring the context and parameters concerning the "how" of life. Science also studies and can provide RECOMMENDATIONS for the pursuit of well-being and a related conception of morality. An alternative, humanistic approach poses the question, "What is the meaning of my life?" |

In an experiment the current flowing through a resistor and potential difference across it are measured. The values are given below. Show that these values confirm Ohm’s LawI (ampere) 1.0 1.0 2 1.5 2.0 2.0 2.5 2.5 3.0 3.0 V (volt) 4.0 4.0 6.0 6.0 8.0 8.0 10.0 10.0 12.0 12.0 |
Answer» Answer: A currentvoltage characteristic or IV curve (currentvoltage curve) is a relationship, TYPICALLY represented as a chart or graph, between the electric current through a circuit, device, or material, and the corresponding voltage, or potential difference across it. In the graph, the voltage is plotted along the y-axis and the current is plotted along the x-axis. In the given EXAMPLE, the current I against the potential difference V, is a straight line with constant slope 1/R as the relation is linear and ohmic. That is, the remains constant for VARYING values of voltage and current. The resistance can be found using the OHM's law which states R=V/I=0.5/0.2 or1.0/0.4, etc will give 2.5 ohms. Hence, the resistance is 2.5 ohms. Explanation: HOPE THIS HELPS YOU BETTERPLZ MARK ME AS BRAINLIESTGIVE THANKS =TAKE THANKS |

Explain why conditions for micropropagation must be sterile |
Answer» Micropropagation is the practice of rapidly multiplying STOCK plant material to produce many progeny plants, using modern plant tissue culture methods.[1] Micropropagation also referred as tissue culture is used to multiply plants such as those that have been genetically modified or bred through CONVENTIONAL plant breeding methods. It is also used to provide a sufficient number of PLANTLETS for PLANTING from a stock plant which does not produce seeds, or does not respond well to vegetative reproduction. Cornell University botanist Frederick Campion Steward discovered and pioneered micropropagation and plant tissue culture in the late 1950S and early 1960s |

It was Paracelsus who introduced the concept of dose and studied the actions of poisons through experimentation. It was not until the 19th century, however, that the Spaniard Matthieu Orfila, the attending physician to LOUIS XVIII, correlated the chemistry of a toxin with the biological effects it produces in a poisoned individual. Both CONCEPTS continue to be fundamental to an understanding of modern toxicology. follow me please |
