What methods were adopted by Indians during the Non Co operation Movement? Why did Gandhiji decide to withdraw the Non Cooperation Movement? |
|
Answer» The Non-cooperation movement was withdrawn because of the Chauri Chaura incident. Although he had stopped the national revolt single-handedly, on 10 March 1922, Gandhi was arrested. On 18 March 1922, he was imprisoned for six years for publishing seditious materials. This led to suppression of the movement and was followed by the arrest of other leaders. Although most Congress leaders remained firmly behind Gandhi, the determined broke away. The Ali brothers would soon become fierce critics. Motilal Nehru and Chittaranjan Das formed the Swaraj Party, rejecting Gandhi's LEADERSHIP. Many nationalists had felt that the non-cooperation movement should not have been stopped due to isolated incidents of violence, and most nationalists, while retaining confidence in Gandhi, were discouraged. Contemporary historians and critics suggest that the movement was successful enough to break the back of British RULE, and possibly even the catalyst for the movement that lead to independence in 1947. But many historians and Indian leaders of the TIME also defended Gandhi's judgment. However, there have been claims that Gandhi called off the movement in an attempt to salvage his own personal image, which would have been tarnished had he been blamed for the Chauri Chaura incident, although a similar type of movement was introduced in 1930, the civil disobedience movement. The main difference was the introduction of a policy of VIOLATING the law. |

What is the administrative system of maurya? |
|
Answer» The Mauryan imperial polity held sway over nearly three quarters of India’s landmass for a period little less than two centuries. As with any other great empire, the genesis of Maurya Empire was in the ECONOMIC and military strength of its heartland and the ability of its LEADERS to asset their military power BEYOND their frontiers. This ability was asserted by first three emperors of the dynasty. There were three major governance factors behind the Maurya hegemony. First, there was a highly centralized administrative machinery with a STEEL frame of bureaucratic institutions and machinery comparable to modern Indian administration. Secondly, the administrative diktats were able to infuse a sense of security and belonging to the masses though it demanded strict obedience to the emperor. Third was a contradictory element which made its way after the conquest of Kalinga in the form of moral exhortation inscribed on stone in several parts of the empire. These messages instituted an ideal norm of benign and humane governance as a benchmark of political maturity. This third element did not last long beyond LIFE of Asoka and is called the Mauryan Paradox. Here is a summary of the administration and life of the Maurya world. |

The greatest of the Sangama dynasty rulers,[4] he was an able administrator, an ambitious warrior and a man of letters. To him goes the credit of authoring well-known works in the Kannada language (Sobagina Sone and Amaruka) and in the Sanskrit language(Mahanataka Sudhanidhi).[2][3] Some of the most noted Kannada poets of the medieval period, such as Chamarasa and Kumara Vyasa gained his patronage.[5][6] The Sanskrit poet Gunda Dimdima, and the noted Telugu language poet Srinatha whom the king honored with the title Kavisarvabhauma("Emperor among poets") were in his court.[7]It was an age of DEVELOPMENT in secular literature as well. The noted South Indian mathematician Parameshvara, from the KERALA school of astronomy and mathematicslived in his empire.[8] According to the historian Sastri, Deva Raya II had the title Gajabetegara, which literally means "Hunter of elephants", an honorific that explained his addiction to hunting elephants or a metaphor referring to his victories against enemies who were "as strong as elephants".[1]Despite some reversals, Deva Raya II extended and held territories up to the Krishna river. According to an account of visiting Persian chronicler Abdur Razzak, Deva Raya II's empire extended from Ceylon to Gulbarga, and Orissa to the Malabar. According to the historians Chopra, Ravindran and Subrahmaniyan, the king maintained a fleet of ships which helped him in his overseas connections.
