why the western Ghats receive rainfall but the western part of India are dry although there are Aravalli mountains |
|
Answer» Ok, so this is how my teacher explained it to me. The western ghats and coast receive rainfall as they are in the WINDWARD side of the mountains. They receive rainfall by the South West Monsoon Winds. The Western part of India DOES NOT receive rainfall as the Aravalli Mountains are parallel to these winds. Hence , the western part of India doesn't receive much rainfall. ONE more point is that , even the Bay of BENGAL current reaches the western part of India and is blocked by the Aravalli's and it gives rainfall to the windward side WHILST the Thar desert receives no rainfall as it is situated in the leeward side of the mountains. |
