What are the equivalent of taboo in today's modern society?

Answer»

any given society, a taboo is an implicit prohibition on something (usually against an utterance or behavior) based on a cultural sense that it is excessively repulsive or, perhaps, too sacred for ordinary people.Every CULTURE has some behaviors that are considered taboo. Food, dress, bodily functions, and courtship are common themes. ... Some examples of taboos include: In many Jewish and Muslim communities, people are FORBIDDEN from eating pork.Linguists rarely agree on the origins of a word. What MAKES the origin of taboo interesting, is the fact that multiple sources TRACE it back to the Polynesian word tapua or tupua, which means both sacred and menstrual blood.

4812.

Why are young children more prone to alcoholism and drug addiction?

Answer»

ce use disorders are a significant public health concern and rank among the most common psychiatric disorders beginning in young adulthood [1]. These disorders are highly disabling, frequently co-occur with and even exacerbate other mental and physical health problems, and show a strong familial pattern [2,3]. For example, in studies of community samples, children of substance abusing parents are more than twice as likely to have an alcohol and/or drug use disorder themselves by young adulthood as compared to their peers [4]. Moreover, children of substance abusing parents are at risk for a wide VARIETY of other NEGATIVE outcomes, including emotional, social, and behavioral adjustment problems as well as challenges in cognitive and academic functioning. Risk for poor emotional and behavioral outcomes among children living with a parent who has a substance abuse history are REPORTED among those as young as 2 to 3 years of age [5–7]. Not surprisingly, these elevated rates of disturbance increase the use of public health services for children of substance abusing parents, with these children and their families over-represented in welfare, mental health, and special education services [8]. Moreover, recent estimates indicate that 11 percent of all children live in families where one or more parents abuse alcohol or other drugs [8]. Thus, children of substance abusing parents are both a large and multi-risk population deserving of effective services. For these reasons, the need to target these children and their families as a vulnerable group is among the top health priorities identified by the SURGEON General in his 2007 report on underage drinking [9]. DESPITE this clear need, few empirically-supported prevention programs target this at-risk population. Nonetheless, it is important to recognize that many children of substance abusing parents are resilient and show positive outcomes despite the risks to which they are exposed. Although some studies estimate that as many as half of these children will develop a substance use disorder by young adulthood, clearly the same number do not

How to manage the adam apple if we want to practise singing daily

Answer»

hroat when you perform? Here’s the answer. Our brains do CRAZY things to our bodies when we’re nervous. How many of you have experienced shaking limbs, sweaty palms, and panicked breathing when the pressure is on? For a singer or an actor, one of the most troubling aspects of getting nervous is a throat that tightens up. We have a series of muscles that run down the back of our throats called constrictors, and they contract when the “fight or flight” response kicks in from our sympathetic nervous system. These constrictor muscles are very strong and are part of swallowing; to get a sense of how MUCH you don’t want these muscles on when you’re singing or speaking, just try to talk and SWALLOW at the same time. Not so easy, right? There are lots of great ways to release muscle tension, like meditation (see here), mobility work, and awareness modalities such as the Alexander technique. Another great thing to try is laryngeal massage. Many performers aren’t even aware of what the structures of the larynx (voice box) are, so learning to do some self-massage can help to reduce strain and also make you more knowledgeable about your throat. The rules of this practice are:Be precise with your movements.Use firm pressure, but not enough to cause pain.Assess and reassess after each part of the massage. Pick a phrase to sing or speak before and after you work with each body part. Use your voice to notice improvements.Keep track of what works for you, and repeat these massage elements before you perform.JawThere are three jaw muscles that exert a great influence on the larynx. The first is the masseter, which clenches your jaw. To massage this muscle, run your thumbs down the sides of your cheekbones in front of your ears, from your TEMPLES to the bottom of your jaw. Now find the pterygoid muscles, which are attached below your cheekbones and help you with chewing. Make small circles in this area in both DIRECTIONS. Finally, take your hands above your ears on both sides to find your temporal muscles. (If you open and close your mouth, you’ll feel movement here.) Make broad circles here in both directions.TonguePlace both thumbs underneath your chin and make circles in this area (the root of your tongue). Now stick your tongue out and repeat the circles. Try this with the tip of the tongue pointing down and then the tip pointing up.Hyoid boneThe hyoid bone is a U-shaped bone in the crook of your chin that attaches to the larynx. If you’re a male, find your Adam’s apple (thyroid cartilage) with your finger and move your finger up a little. Then, press back until you feel a bone. If you’re a female, it’s easier to start with your finger on the cricoid cartilage (a protruding bump about in the middle of your throat), and then move up to the thyroid cartilage and eventually the hyoid. Once you are there, put your finger and thumb on the bone (slide your finger and thumb backward from the front of the bone—it will feel firm under your fingers) and move it side to side.LarynxTake the backs of your hands on either side of your throat, and move the larynx from side to side (the backs of your hands should be touching the middle part of your neck). Notice if your larynx moves easier to one side or the other. Now, hold the larynx to your right and take several slow, deep breaths through your nose. Repeat to the left.A lot of what is described in this article is easier to see visually, so please click here if you want to see these techniques in action and check your form.

नगरीकरण के सामाजिक प्रभाव को स्पष्ट कीजिए ?
