या वर्षीच्या २६ जानेवारीला मनाशी पक्क ठरवलं की काही करुन वजन कमी करायचं. तसं लग्न होईपर्यंत माझं वजन अगदी आदर्श म्हणावं असंच होतं. फार कमी नाही आणि फार जास्त नाही. पण गेल्या पाच वर्षांत ते दर वर्षी चार-पाच किलो असं ठरवून घेतल्यासारखं वाढतच गेलं. प्रेग्नन्सीच्या नऊ महिन्यांत माझं ३० पौंड वजन वाढलं होतं ( साधारण १४ किलो ) त्यानंतर त्यातले २१ पौंड कमीही झालं होतं पण बाळंतपण करुन आई भारतात परत गेल्यावर बाहेरच्या खाण्यावरचं नियंत्रण सुटलं आणि वजन वाढतच राहिलं. इंटरनेटवर खूप दिवस वाचत होते आहार आणि व्यायाम या विषयी. आमच्या जवळच्या नात्यात ओबेसिटी आणि वेट लॉस कन्सलटंट तज्ञ डॊक्टर असल्याने त्यांच्या बोलण्यातूनही काही गोष्टी कळल्या होत्या. त्यावर शांत बसून विचार करुन माझ्यासाठी आहाराची एक दिशा ठरवून घेतली आणि वजन कमी करायच्या दॄष्टीने पावलं उचलली. सुरुवात केल्यापासून पहिल्या पाच महिन्यांत जवळजवळ पंधरा किलो वजन कमी झालं. त्यानंतरच्या तीन महिन्यांत तो वेग थोडा मंदावला पण तरीही वजन कमी होतंच राहिलं. या २६ सप्टेंबरपर्यंत अजून तीन किलो उतरुन एकूण अठरा किलो वजन कमी झालं. लग्नाच्या आधी जे वजन होतं त्याहीपेक्षा एक किलो कमीच झालं आणि अजूनही थोडं कमी करायचा माझा प्रयत्न असेल. मायबोलीवर एक-दोन जणींनी ह्या प्रवासाबद्दल लिही असं सुचवलं आणि खरंच वाटलं की हा अनुभव लिहावा. ह्यातून अजून काही जणांना वजन उतरवायला मदत झाली तर खूप बरं वाटेल.वजन कमी करताना कळीच्या गोष्टी म्हणजे आहार आणि व्यायाम. या पैकी लहानपणापासून व्यायामाची शरीराला फारशी सवय नाही. त्यामुळे सुरुवातीलाच ठरवलं होतं की व्यायाम अशा प्रकारचा निवडायचा जो आपल्याला व्यवस्थित झेपेल आणि वजन कमी केल्यानंतरही त्यात सातत्य राखता येईल. दिवसातला साधारण पाऊण ते एक तास व्यायामासाठी काढायचा असं ठरवलं. त्यात सकाळी दहा ते पंधरा मिनिटं थोडं स्ट्रेचिंग आणि हळूहळू वाढवत नेलेले सूर्यनमस्कार. सूर्यनमस्कार घालताना त्यातलं प्रत्येक आसन सावकाश, योग्य रीतीने होतंय ना याकडे मुद्दाम लक्ष दिलं. आणि सूर्यनमस्कारासारखा सर्वांगसुंदर व्यायाम नाही असं का म्हणतात ते अगदी पुरेपूर कळलं. माझा मुलगा लहान असल्याने संध्याकाळी नवरा घरी आल्यावर सातला जिमला जायचं असं ठरवलं. सुरुवातीला एलिप्टिकल करायचा प्रयत्न केला पण ते फार जड जातंय असं वाटलं. मग ट्रेडमिलवर पन्नास मिनिटं चालायचं ( साधारण साडे-तीन मैल प्रती तास या वेगाने ) असं ठरवलं. साधारण तीन मैल ( ४.८ किमी ) होतील इतका वेळ चालता आलं तर उत्तम.( बरेचदा घरी परतायची घाई असायची ) पण ते नाही जमलं तरी रोज एकाच वेळी जिमला जाणं आणि किमान अर्धा तास तरी चालणं हे झालंच पाहिजे अशी खूणगाठ बांधून घेतली.व्यायाम कुठल्या प्रकारचा आणि किती वेळ करावा ह्या बद्दल नेटवर इतक्या वेगवेगळ्या प्रकारची माहिती होती की गोंधळून गेल्यासारखं होत होतं. साधं ट्रेडमिलवर चालायचं तरी वेट-लॊस झोन मध्ये ( कमी वेगाने ) चालायचं की कार्डीयो झोन मध्ये ( जास्त वेगाने ), किती वेळ, चढ ठेवून की नुसतंच असे अनेक प्रश्न. वजन उचलायच्या प्रकाराबाबतही तेच. किती किलो वजन उचलावे. किती वेळा उचलावे ह्या बद्दल संभ्रम ! पण जसजसं व्यायाम करायला लागले तशा काही गोष्टी लक्षात यायला लागल्या.१. व्यायामाचा मूळ उद्देश हा चरबी ( FAT ) कमी करण्याचा आहे स्नायूंची झीज करणे नव्हे. शरीराची पुरेशी तयारी नसताना जोरजोरात धावल्याने मसल मास बर्न होते चरबी जिथल्या तिथे राहते.२. स्नायूंवर भार न पडता चरबी जाळण्याच्या योग्य मार्गावर व्यायाम आहे हे कसे ओळखावे ? माझ्यापुरता मी निकष लावला की जिममधून घरी आल्यावर जर गळून गेल्यासारखे वाटत असेल तर मसल मास बर्न होत असल्याची शक्यता जास्त. व्यायाम केल्यावर ताजेतवाने, हलके वाटले पाहिजे.३. चालताना हलका श्वास वाढेल पण खूप धाप लागणार नाही अशा वेगाने चालायचे ( माझ्यासाठी हा वेग साधारण साडेतीन मैल प्रति तास ) चालताना दोन्ही हातही शरीराला समांतर ठेऊन हवेत पुढे मागे स्विंग केले तर जास्त चांगला व्यायाम होतो. ( क्रॊस कंट्री स्किईंग मध्ये दोन्ही पोल्स हाताने जसे पुढे मागे ढकलतात तशी पोझिशन )४. नियमित व्यायामाने तीव्रता वाढवता येते. सुरुवातीला मला एलिप्टिकल करणे जमायचे नाही. पण चालण्याचा व्यायाम करायला लागल्यावर काही दिवसांतच एलिप्टिकल जमायला लागले. नंतर ते अर्धा ते पाऊण तास करणेही जमायला लागले. ( जमायला लागणे म्हणजे व्यायामानंतर दमल्यासारखे न वाटणे ) चालण्याचा वेगही हळूहळू वाढतो.५.व्यायामात सातत्य राखले तरी आठवड्याचे सलग सातही दिवस व्यायाम करायची गरज नाही. उलट एक दिवस सुट्टी घेतल्याने स्नायूंना आवश्यक विश्रांतीच मिळते. त्यामुळे आठवड्यातून कमीतकमी चार दिवस आणि जास्तीतजास्त सहा दिवस जिम.
