What was the triangular rate slave trade |
|
Answer» The triangular slave trade was conducted between Europe, Africa and the Americas. Since the 17th century, French merchants travelled from the ports of Bordeaux and Nantes to Africa where they bought slaves from the local chieftains. From there, the slaves were branded, shackled and sent off to the Carribean to be sold off to the plantation owners there. Such exploitation of the slaves from Africa made it possible for the European markets to flourish with commodities like sufar, indigo and coffee. The best-known\xa0triangular trading\xa0system is the transatlantic\xa0slave trade, that operated from the late 16th to early 19th centuries, carrying\xa0slaves, cash crops, and manufactured goods between West Africa, Caribbean or American colonies and the European colonial powers, with the northern colonies of British North . |

What is a free and fair electoral competition?(5 Points) |
|
Answer» Democracy must be based on a free and fair elections :No doubt, in democracy, the rulers are to be elected by the people. But many more things have also to be kept in view. In many so called democratic countries, the final decisions do not rest with the elected people but with the army officials, as is the case in Pakistan. In some other countries, the elections are held but only one party is allowed to take part in the elections, as is the case with China where the Chinese Communist Party is allowed to take part in the elections. So such a country cannot be called a true democratic country in the true sense of the word, although elections are held there regularly. Free and fair elections means that elections offer equal opportunities for all competing parties and candidates. Such equality requires the ability of political parties and candidates to register for office without unreasonable requirements, balanced access to the media for all candidates, the absence of campaign finance abuse, and an independent electoral process. |

Write about the major decisions by elected leaders.(5 Points) |
| Answer» A democratic government is one in which the people\'s representatives participate in decision making process. They own a collective responsibility for all the decisions taken by the government. There are example where representatives of people are chosen; but they are not allowed to participate in decision making process. This happens in many dictatorships and monarchies. e.g. currently in Pakistan under General Musharraf. In Pakistan, General Parvej Musharraf acquired power in October 1999 through an military coup. In Pakistan though they formally have an elected parliament and government but the real power is with those who are not elected. Not withstanding the existence of elected national and provincial assemblies, these countries can not be classified as a democratic country. This gives us the first feature in a democracy the final decision making power must rest with those elected by the people. | |

Why should we accept the constitution made by the constituent assembly more than 60 years ago ? |
|
Answer» Because the makers of the constitution decided a lot on this constitution for future , they spended too much time to make our constitution and ,now we don\'t think our constitution as old laws because at that time it was discussed with many rulers and even tried to make it modern and easy for peoples to follow it We should accept the constitution made by constituent assembly more than 60 years ago because:-1. The Constitution of India doesn\'t reflect the opinion of members of the Constituent Assembly. It expresses a broad consensus of its time.2. The another reason why we should accept the Constitution is that the Constituent Assembly represented the Indian people.3. The Assembly was dominated by the Indian National Congress (INC). It was the party that led the Indian freedom struggle. But it itself included people of different political opinions and groups.4. In social terms too, the Assembly represented members that belonged to different castes, occupations, religions and classes.5. At that time, there was no universal adult franchise. But even it would have been there, the composition of the Constituent Assembly would have been so different as it was. |

What is emancipation |
| Answer» The colonies in the Caribbean were important suppliers of tobacco, indigo, sugar and coffee. However as the Europeans were unwilling to work in distant and unfamiliar lands, it led to a shortage of labor in plantations. This shortage was met by triangular slave trade between Europe, Africa and America.\xa02. The slave trade began in the 17th century when French merchants sailed to the African coasts, where they bought slaves from the local chieftains. These slaves were then branded, shackled and then packed tightly into ships for a 3 month long voyage across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.\xa03. There they were sold to the plantation workers who used them to meet the growing demands in European markets for sugar, coffee and indigo.\xa04. Slavery was abolished in France by the Constitution of 1791 but it was not extended to all French subjects including those in the colonies.\xa05. It was during the Jacobins reign that the Convention abolished slavery in the French colonies in 1794. Napoleon re introduced slavery in France. Slavery was finally abolished in French colonies in 1848. | |

Among them, First and Second Estates had 10 per cent of the total population and were the clergy and nobles. They enjoyed all privileges. Their ideas inspired the people of France to realise their dreams.Role of middle class:\xa0The 18th century witnessed the emergence of social groups termed as middle class, who earned their wealth through an expanding trade of the manufactured goods, being exported. There were other professionals also like lawyers, administrative officials who were all educated. They believed that no group in society should be privileged by birth. | |

Why there is unequal pattern of precipitation in India? |
|
Answer» Rainfall depend upon various climatic features. For example, the presence of mountains affect the distribution of rainfall. The moisture laden winds when strike the windward side of the mountains. Causes rainfall. The places located on the leeward side of the mountains get scarce rainfall. This is the reason that Mumbai receive more rainfall than Pune. North eastern India get most of its rainfall in this manner. The Eastern side of the Western Ghats or Ladakh also get scarce rainfall.Heavy rainfall is recorded in hilly and forested regions. Forested regions like Assam, the Ganga delta and the Western Ghats receive abundant rainfall. The regions falling first in the path of moisture laden winds receive more rainfall than the places that fall last. For example, Patna receive more rainfall than Delhi from the Bay of Bengal branch of Monsoon winds. The unpredictability of the monsoon along with phenomena like monsoon troughs, El-Nino and depressions lead to uneven distribution of rainfall.Of late, climatic changes because of global warming have resulted in unpredictable rainfall pattern all over the world including India. \xa0Rainfall is unevenly distributed in India because of several reasons:\tRainfall depend upon various climatic features.
