Abolition of slavery in france |
| Answer» The slave trade began in the 17th century. The Caribbean colonies like Martinique, Guadeloupe and San Domingo were the suppliers of tobacco, indigo, sugar and coffee. The Europeans were not too willing to go to an unfamiliar land that was so far away from their home. This resulted in the shortage of workers in the plantations. This problem was solved by a triangular slave trade between Europe, Africa and America. From Bordeaux or Nantes the French merchants went to Africa, bought slaves from the local chieftains and sent them to the Caribbean, across the Atlantic, to be sold to the plantation owners. This helped them to meet the demand for sugar, coffee and tobacco in Europe. This flourishing slave trade resulted in the economic prosperity of the port cities like Bordeaux and Nantes.Though the National Assembly held debates and discussions on the abolition of slavery, it did not make any law fearing opposition from the businessmen, whose income depended on slave trade. It was in 1794 that the Convention passed a law to free all slaves in French overseas possessions. But this lasted only for 10 years because when Napoleon Bonaparte became the emperor of France in 1804, he reintroduced slavery. In 1848, Slavery was finally abolished in French colonies. | |

What are the difficuties people face in non democratic country |
| Answer» \tPeople face various difficulties in a non-democratic country as we have seen in case of Chile, Myanmar, Ghana, Pakistan, Poland, Nepal etc.\xa0\tIn non-democratic countries, the people have no security of life. For example, in Chile thousands of people were killed by military rulers.\xa0\tPeople are not free to express their opinions. Criticizing the government or rulers in a nondemocratic country would lead to severe punishments.\xa0\tThere is no freedom for the people either to elect their government or to be elected. Even if they find any government or ruler not to their benefit or well-being, they cannot change it since there is no election.\xa0\tIn non-democratic countries no opposition parties or opposition leader is tolerated. As we have seen in Poland during the regime of a non-democratic government, the workers are not allowed to form their independent Trade Unions. Only such unions can survive which rightly or wrongly support the policies of the government.\xa0\tIn absence of a democratic government there is no socio-economic equality. Societies in such countries remain divided among privileged and non-privileged classes which result in corruption in every department of the government. Ordinary people cannot aspire for any post. People are always at the mercy of the autocratic ruler or the dictator. | |
