The soil is bare, the wind picks up speed due to the flat land and blows away the unprotected soil. Even though rain falls infrequently in Rajasthan; when it does rain, it causes a large run of surplus water that washes away the top layer of the soil as we saw during the rainy season of 2017 in some parts of Rajasthan. The flood in Pali, Jalore and Rajsamand etc. caused a lot of soil erosion, The best step in the direction of soil conservation is planting appropriate trees. मृदा-संरक्षण राजस्थान में रेगिस्तान का बहुत बड़ा क्षेत्र है। अधिकांश भूमि वृक्षों से रहित होने के कारण मृदा अपरदन एक सामान्य परिदृश्य है। मिट्टी के खुले होने के कारण और भूमि समतल होने के कारण हवा तेजी से बहती है और असुरक्षित मिट्टी को उड़ा ले जाती है। यद्यपि राजस्थान में वर्षा रुक-रुककर होती है परन्तु जब होती है तो बड़ी मात्रा में फालतू पानी बह जाता है जिससे मिट्टी की ऊपरी सतह बह जाती है। जैसा कि हमने वर्ष 2017 की वर्षा ऋतु में राजस्थान के कुछ भागों में देखा था। पाली, जालौर, राजसमन्द आदि जिलों में बाढ़ ने काफी मात्रा में मृदा अपरदन किया। मृदा-संरक्षण की दिशा में सर्वोत्तम कदम है- समुचित वृक्षारोपण। जल के बहाव को रोकने के लिए बन्धों का निर्माण भी इस कार्य में सहायक होगा।

At present most of the Indian rivers are flooded during the rainy season and a large amount of water runs to waste. These very rivers run almost dry during summer. So if the rivers are linked, surplus rainwater may be utilized and will help to develop the country in many ways. Interlinking of all the national rivers project aims at increasing the amount of surface water and eradicating the usage of groundwater for irrigation. This will also increase the arable area. Crop productivity will improve and food availability will increase. More agriculture will provide jobs to many a youth and resultantly improve the economy of the country. These rivers can also be used as waterways that are a cheap mode of transport. 

वर्तमान में भारत की अधिकांश नदियाँ वर्षा ऋतु में जलाप्लावित हो जाती हैं और काफी मात्रा में जल व्यर्थ ही बह जाता है। ये ही नदियाँ गर्मियों में अधिकांशतः सूख जाती हैं। इसलिए यदि इन नदियों को जोड़ दिया जाये तो अधिशेष वर्षा जल का उपयोग हो सकेगा और कई प्रकार से देश का विकास हो सकेगा। देश की सभी नदियों को आपस में जोड़ने का उद्देश्य है भूमि के ऊपर बहने वाले जल की मात्रा में वृद्धि करना और सिंचाई के लिए भूमिगत जल के उपयोग को पूरी तरह समाप्त करना। इससे कृषि के योग्य भू-भाग में भी वृद्धि होगी। फसल-उत्पादन में सुधार होगा और भोजन की उपलब्धता में वृद्धि होगी। अधिक कृषि होने से बहुत से नवयुवकों को रोजगार मिलेगा और इसके परिणामस्वरूप देश की अर्थव्यवस्था में सुधार होगा। इन नदियों का प्रयोग जलमार्गों के रूप में भी किया जा सकता है जो कि यातायात के सस्ते साधन हैं।

Soil erosion is the situation when the upper layer of ground is washed away. This is a very serious situation as it leaves the land unfertile as well as unfit for vegetation to grow. Main causes of soil erosion- sudden bursts of excessively heavy rain, the slope of the land, removal of a natural protective coat of vegetation, the existence of ruts (deep tracks) along which water can flow rapidly, and the absence of any checks of such flow. Preventive measures-terracing of the land, construction of bunds to check the flow of water, contour cultivation, and the planting of appropriate trees. These measures are to be taken into practice to save environment to enhance cultivation as well as to help our economy to grow. 

जमीन की ऊपरी सतह का बह जाना मृदा अपरदन कहलाता है। यह बहुत गम्भीर स्थिति होती है क्योंकि यह मिट्टी को अनुपजाऊ व वनस्पति उगने के आयोग बना देती है। मृदा अपरदन के कारणअचानक अत्यधिक तीव्र वर्षा का होना, भूमि का ढलावदार होना, वनस्पति के प्राकृतिक रक्षा कवच का ह्मस (नष्ट होना), नालीनुमा गड्ढ़ों का होना जिनसे जल तेजी से बह सकता है, और जल रोकने हेतु बन्धों का न होना। रोकथाम के उपाय- भूमि को सोपानकृत करना, जल के प्रवाह को रोकने हेतु बन्धों का निर्माण, सीढ़ीदार खेत बनाकर खेती करना और उचित प्रकार के वृक्ष लगाना। वातावरण को बचाने के लिए, उपज को बढ़ाने के लिए वे अपनी अर्थव्यवस्था की वृद्धि के लिए इन उपायों को अपनाने की आवश्यकता है।

These measures are terracing of land, contour cultivation and construction of bunds to check the flow of water. Besides, appropriate trees should be planted in all possible and even impossible areas. 

ये उपाय हैं – भूमि को सोपानकृत करना, सीढ़ीदार खेती करना और पानी के बहाव को रोकने के लिए बन्धों का निर्माण। इसके अतिरिक्त, सभी सम्भव तथा यहाँ तक कि असम्भव स्थानों पर समुचित वृक्षों का रोपण किया जाना चाहिए।

No agricultural and physiological activity is possible without water. India is primarily an agricultural country. Ours is mainly an agriculture-based economy. Agriculture in India depends on seasonal rainfall. Often the rain is inadequate or irregular so agriculture suffers badly. If water is conserved, it will prove very valuable for irrigation and power production. Conserved water will directly help in irrigation, and the electricity produced by water will also help in irrigation by tapping underground water through tube wells etc. Conservation of water is necessary in order to keep life going during the period when there is very little or no rainfall. Vast areas of scrubland can be turned into fertile fields with proper use of water. Hence, water conservation is necessary for our country. 

जल के बिना कृषि व अन्य किसी भी प्रकार की जैविक क्रिया सम्भव नहीं है। भारत मुख्य रूप से एक कृषिप्रधान देश है। हमारी अर्थव्यवस्था मुख्यतः कृषि पर आधारित है। भारत में कृषि मौसमी वर्षा पर निर्भर करती है। अधिकांशतः वर्षा अपर्याप्त होती है या अनियमित होती है इसलिए यहाँ कृषि बुरी तरह प्रभावित होती है। यदि जल  संरक्षण किया जाए तो यह कृषि हेतु सिंचाई और विद्युत उत्पादन में बेहद लाभदायक सिद्ध होगा। संरक्षित जल सिंचाई में प्रत्यक्ष रूप से सहायक होगा, और जल से बनाई गई विद्युत भी ट्यूबवैल इत्यादि के माध्यम से भूमिगत जल उपलब्ध कराकर सिंचाई में सहायता करेगी। बहुत कम या बिल्कुल वर्षा न होने वाले समय में जीवन को जारी रखने के लिए जल-संरक्षण आवश्यक है। व्यर्थ पड़ा एक बड़ा भू-क्षेत्र जले के उचित उपयोग द्वारा उपजाऊ क्षेत्र में परिवर्तित किया जा सकता है । अतः जल संरक्षण हमारे देश के लिए आवश्यक है।
