10 ml of water and 15 ml of hydrochloric acid are to be mixed in a beakera State the method that should be followed with reason.. What is this process called?

Answer»

(a) The method to be followed is that , acid (sulphuric acid) should be added to water , and not vice versa. That is , water should NEVER be added to acid. This is because water reacts very vigorously when added to acid, and releases a large amount of heat , and splashes the concentrated acid(sulphuric acid) out of the container.

(b) The process of adding acid to water , is called dilution of acids.
