2.Give an example where heat is convertedinto sound and light energy |
Answer»
First, it’s heat, not heat energy. Heat has a precise meaning. Heat energy doesn’t. Heat is thetransferof energy from a warmer body to a cooler body.

There are typically theee forms: diffusion, convection, and radiation. Light is a form of radiation, so light is often a form of heat. When the sun shines, that is heat. When a lightbulb lights up the room, that is also a form of heat.

Let’s take these two examples. Inside the solar core, hydrogen fuses into helium and releases gamma rays (a form of light). These interact with the rest of the matter in the sun, slowly diffusing and convecting through the sun from the really hot solar core to the slightly less really hot surface. At the surface, the radiation is free to go all the way to Earth as both heat and light.

Inside a power plant, natural gas is burned. This is used to heat water, which in turn is used to produce work. This work turns a generator, creating electricity. That electricity is sent through a wire, increasing the temperature until it starts radiating light. The light is a form of heat.
| |
