8. On what basis do we choose a material to make an object? |
Answer»
- cost e.g. stainless steel might be better than normal steel for a certain product but it is more expensive.

- the physical properties of the material e.g. you might need a low density high tensile strength material for an aircraft wing

- the chemical properties of the material e.g . you wouldn't make a acid-storage container out of iron because iron reacts with acid

- its availability e.g. you might want an exotic hardwood for furniture but it is scarce

- how easy it is to work with e.g. skilled workers might be needed for stainless steel welding, so you might choose not to use stainless steel for a product because you know you can't get the skilled staff required
| |
