Answer»

\Huge\mathrm{Question:}

The ratio of the present age of Hatim and Hakim is 9:11. If 7 years ago Hatim was 20 years OLD,

then FIND the ratio of their ages after 3 years.

a. 9:11

b. 5:6

c. 7:9

d. 2:5

\Huge\mathrm{Answer:}

Ratio of present ages = 9:11

Let the age of Hakim 7 years ago be = x

Hakim's present age = x + 7

Age of Hatim 7 years ago = 20

Ratio of their ages 7 years ago = 20:x

27 : x + 7 = CURRENT ratio of ages.

\frac{27}{x + 7}  =  \frac{9}{11}

By cross multiplication :

9(x + 7) = 11 \times 27

9x + 63 = 297

9x = 297 - 63

9x = 234

x =  \frac{234}{9}

x = 26

Hakim's present age = 26 + 7 = 33

Hatim's present age = 27

Their ages after 3 years = 30,36

Ratio =

\frac{30}{36}  =   \frac{5}{6}

HENCE, the answer = 5:6
