Number of octahedral voids = Number of atoms = `3.011 xx 10^(23)` Number of tetrahedral voids =`2 xx "Number of atoms" = 2 xx 3.011 xx 10^(23)= 6.022 xx 10^(23)`. It may be remembered that the number of octahedral voids is EQUAL to the number of atoms in close-packing while the number of tetrahedral voids is TWICE the number of atoms in close- packing. Hence, total number of voids = `3.011 xx 10^(23) + 6.022 xx 10^(23) = 9.033 xx 10^(23)` |
