1.

A force of 600 N displaces an object through 2 m. Find the work done if the force and displacement are 1. Parallel 2. At right angles.

Answer»

Work done is given by W = Fs cosθ

1. when F and s are parallel, θ = 0 and hence cosθ = 1

∴ W = Fs = 600 × 2 = 1200 J.

2. when F and s are at right angles,

θ = 90° and hence cosθ = 0

∴ Work done, W = 0.
