1.

A sinusoidal voltage of peak value of 283 V and frequency 50 Hz is applied to a series LCR circuit in which R = 3 Omega , L = 25.48 mH and C = 796 mu F. Find the phasedifference between the voltage across the source the current.

Answer»

Solution :PHASE difference `( phi )` between VOLTAGE and current can be FOUND as follows .
`tan phi = ( X_(L) - X_(C ))/( R )`
`:. tan phi = ( 8-4)/( 3) = ( 4)/(3) `....(1)
But from table of natural tangents,
`tan ( 53^(@) 8.) = 1.3335 = 1.3333`
`:. phi = 53^(@) 8.`
Voltage leads aheadof current by an angle `53^(@) 8.`
