1.

A stone is released from the top of a tower of height 19.6 m. Calculate its final velocity just before touching the ground.

Answer»

h = 19.6 m.

Initial velocity u = 0 (∵ It starts from rest)

From equation of motion.

v2 = u2 + 2gh

v2 = 0 + 2 x 9.8 x 19.6

= 19.6 x 19.6

∴ v = \(\sqrt{19.6\times 19.6}\)

= 19.6 ms-1

Final velocity of stone before touching the ground = 19.6 ms-1.
