Solution :(i) Schottky defect lowers the density of related solids because, for the same volume, there are smaller NUMBER of ions. THUS the density of the solid decreases.
(ii) Phosphorus contains five valence electrons. Four of the five electrons are used in the FORMATION of four covalent bonds with neighbouring silicon ATOMS. The fifth electron is delocalised. These delocalised electrons INCREASE the conductivity of doped silicon.
