Account for the following observations : (a) At the melting point temperature even though heatenergy is constantly supplied, temperature does notrise till the entire solid has changed to liquid state.(6) Water becomes cold if we add some ice cube to it. |

Answer» At the melting point, temperature does not rise till the entire solid has changed to liquid state because the HEAT energy supplied to change the state of matter only overcome the forces of ATTRACTION between the particles and increase the kinetic energy of particles. This heat energy does not increase the temperature and thus, temperature remains constant during change of state. When water is converted into ICE, it takes the latent heat of fusion from the SURROUNDING water molecules to become liquid to solid. Thus, the water becomes cold. Hope it will HELP you..
