1.

Assertion (A): A is very dilute acidic solution of Cd^(2+) and Ni^(2+) gives yellow precipitate of CdS on passing hydrogen sulphide. Reason (R) : Solubility product of CdS is more than that of NiS.

Answer»

STATEMENT 1 is true, statement 2 is true, statement 2 is a correct explanation for statement 1
Statement 1 is true, statement 2 is true, statement 2 is not a correct explanation for statement 1
Statement 1 is true, statement 2 is FALSE
Statement 1 is false, statement 2 is true

Solution :`Cd^(2+)` is a `2^(nd)` group radical and `Ni^(2+)` is a `4^(TH)` group radical. So solubility PRODUCT of NiS has to be more than CdS. Further `Cd^(2+)` gives yellow colour of CdS with `H_(2)S`, but `Ni^(2+)` gives black colour of NiS with `H_(2)S`. So both statement 1 and statement 2 are wrong.
