Assertion: The `pH` of aicd rain is less than `5.6` Reason: Carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere dissolves in rain water and forms carbonic acid.A. If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.B. If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.C. If assertion is true but reason is false.D. If assertion is false but reason is true. |
Answer» Correct Answer - B Genenrally the `pH` of rain water is `5.6` because of the dissolution of `CO_(2)` from the atmosphere into rain water. When some other gases, like `SO_(2),NO_(2)` etc. also dissolve , the `pH` goes below `5.6` due to the presence of strong acids like `H_(2)SO_(4)` , `HNO_(3)` etc. This rain is now referred as acid rain. |
