Yes. A foreigner staying in India, i.e. a citizen of other country can become a citizen of our country on the basis of his/her prolonged stay in India, but subject to the following three conditions for acquiring citizenship under the law:

  1. He / She must give up the citizenship of foreign country at the time of an application for citizenship.
  2. He / She must be a resident of India for five or more than five years.
  3. The intention of an applicant must be to stay on a permanent basis in India.

Moreover, if a foreigner, male / female gets married to an Indian citizen he / she can be the citizen of India.
