Define Brownian movement. What is the cause of Brownian movement in colloidal particles? How is it responsible for the stability of colloidal Sol?

Answer»

Solution :The zig zag and CONTINUOUS movements of particles of a colloidal solution is called Brownian movement.
This is due to unbalanced bombardment of the particles by the molecules of the dispersion medium
the Brownian movement has a STIRRING effect which does not permit the particles to settle down. It is THUS RESPONSIBLE for the stability of the sols.
