1.

Define the following terms. (a) Magnetic poles (b) Magnetic North Pole ( c) Magnetic South Pole (d) Magnetic axis ( e) Length of a bar magnet (f) Effective length of a bar magnet (g) Magnetic equator

Answer»

Solution :(i) Magnetic poles: The end points of a magnet where most of its magnetic power is concentrated are CALLED pole of a magnet .
(ii) Magnetic NORTH Pole : The point N at the end of the FREELY suspended bar magnet which points towards the geographic North Pole is called magneticNorth Pole.
(iii) Magnetic South Pole : The piontS at the end of the freely suspendedbar magnet which points towards the geographic South Pole is called magnetic South pole.
(iv) Magnetic AXIS : An imaginary line PASSING through the magnetic North Pole and South Pole of a bar magnet is called magnetic axis.
(v) Length of a bar magnet : Total distance from the North Pole to the centre of a magnet or the South Pole to the centre of a magnet is called length of a magnet.
(vi) Effective length: The shortest lenght between teh magnetic North Pole and the magnetic South Pole of a magnet is called effective length of the magnet.ltrbgt (vii) Magnetic equator: An imaginary line passing through the centre of the magnet and perpendicular to the magnetic axis is called mangetic equator.
