1.

Define the following terms : (i) Colligative properties. (ii) Molality (m).

Answer»

Solution : (i) Colligative PROPERTIES - These are those properties of solutions that depend upon the concentration of the solution and not upon the NATURE of the solute. For example, osmotic PRESSURE, lowering of vapour pressure, ETC.
(ii) Molality (m) – Molality of a solution is equal to the number of moles of the solute dissolved in one kilogram of the solvent.
Molality (m) = No. of moles of the solute / No. of kilograms of the solvent
