On the basis of the report of this committee, an ordinance was passed regarding the revolutionary and criminal activities, which was known an Rowlatt Act. Its aim was to detain in jail any Indian on any pretext for two years, to suspend his citizenship rights and to suppress the demand of Swaraj. This act was opposed throughout the country.
