Describethe construction of Danielcell and writeitscell reaction . |

Answer» Solution :Daniel cell :The separation of halfreaction is the basis for theconstruction of Daniel cell. It consists of twoa beaker. (i)Oxidation HALFCELL :A metallic zincstripthat dips intoan AQUEOUS solution of zincsulphatetakenin a beaker. (ii) Reducationhalfcell :A copperstrip thatdipsintoan aqueoussolution of copper sulphatetakenin a beaker. (iii) Joiningthe halfcells : The zinc and copperstripsare externallyconnectedusing a wirethrougha swtich(k) and a load ( example : volt METER ) . The electrolytic solution present in the cathodicand anodiccompatmentare connected using an inverted U tubecontaininga agar-agar gel mixedwith an inert electrolyte such as KCI, ` Na_(2)SO_(4)` etc.The IONS of inert electrolyte do not react with otherionspresent in the half cellsand theyare noteitheroxidised (or) reduced at the electrodes. The solution in the saltbridgecannotget poured out, butthroughwhichthe ions can move into (or) out of the halfcells. (iv)When the switch (k)closesthe circuit, the electronsflows fromzinc stripto copperstrip. Thisis due to the following redoxreactions whichare takingplaceat therespectiveelectrodes. |
