Dialogue between mother and son on respecting elders |
|
Answer» Son: Mummy, why do I have to respect elders? Mother: Because that is part of our culture. Son: I don't UNDERSTAND. Mother: Well, our's is an old civilization. In fact it is one of the OLDEST in the world. Some things have always been followed by us, and respecting elders is one such thing. Son: So you want me to respect elders just because we have always DONE that? Mother: No, I want you to understand why we have always done that. Remember when you had a really bad cough? Son: Yes, Mummy. It was awful. I couldn't sleep, but you fixed the problem. Mother: And what did I do? Son: You rubbed some warm ghee on my neck. That's all. Mother: And did it bring you RELIEF? Son: Yes, almost immediately. But how did you know the trick? Mother: Well, the elders in our family taught me that. Son: Ah! Now I understand why we need to respect the elders. Mother: Tell me why. Son: Because they have a lot of experience and have seen life and often know better than us and can guide us and make our lives better. Mother: There you go- you answered your own QUESTION!
