Distinguish between enantiomers and diastereomers.

Solution :
Stereoisomers which are non-superimposable MIRROR IMAGES of each other are called enantiomers while stereoisomers which are not mirror images of each other are called diastereomers. For example, TARTARIC acid EXISTS inthree stereosiomeric forms I, II and III STRUCTURES I and II are non-superimposable mirror images of each other and hence are enentiomers. but structures I and III (or II and III) are not mirror images and hence are diastereomers.
