Solution :(b)(i) `C_(6)H_(5)-COCH_(3)` and `C_(6) H_(5) = CHO`
On treatment with NaOH and `I_(2), C_(6) H_(5) COCH_(3)` gives a yellow precipitate of iodoform `C_(6)H_(5) CHO` does not give this test.
(ii) `CH_(3) COOH` and `HCOOH`
HCOOH gives Tollen.s REAGENT test on treatment with AMMONICAL silver nitrate. A shining silver MIRROR is obtained
`HCOOH + Ag_(2)O RARR CO_(2) + H_(2) O + underset( "silver mirror")(2Agdarr)`
`CH_(3) COOH` does not give this test.
