Yes, I like the story ‘Svayamvara’, because it inspires us to raise our voice against gender inequality and stresses the fact that women should have a proper place in society. It also underlines the fact that certain set roles are assigned to women in Indian society and if they want a little more freedom, the parents and members of society become unhappy. Men think that they are naturally superior to women. The story emphasises the fact that women are equally competent. They must be allowed to do everything they wish. If they are capable, they will certainly excel. It is good that in the present scenario, we can see many parents, family members and husbands who support women in bringing out their talent. For example, Mahavir Singh from Jhajjar (Haryana) motivated his three daughters to become world-class wrestlers. At present they are famous as the Foghat sisters.
