Does the appearance of bright and dark fringes in the interference pattern violate, in any way, conservation of energy ? Explain. |
| Answer» SOLUTION :The convervation law of energy holds good for the PHENOMENON of interference as well diffraction. Due to interference or diffraction we obtain maxima and MINIMA intensities at different points. From points of minima intensity the energy has been shifted to the points of maximum intensity. THUS, there is a redistribution of energy but total energy must remain conserved. the energy lost at minimas exactly reappears at diffraction maximas and the total energy remains UNCHANGED. | |
