Draw a neat labelled diagram of H_(2)-O_(2) fuel cell. Write the reaction occurs at cathode of the cell. |
Answer» Solution : In this cell, hydrogen and OXYGEN are bubbled through porous carbon ELECTRODE into concentrated aqueous sodium HYDROXIDE. Hydrogen is fed into the ANODE compartment where it is oxidised. The oxygen is fed into cathode compartment where it is reduced. Anode : `2[H_(2)(g)+2OH^(-)(aq) to 2H_(2)O(l)+2e^(-)]` Cathode: `O_(2)(g)+2H_(2)O(l)+4e^(-) to 4OH^(-)(aq)` Overall: `2H_(2)(g)+O_(2)(g) to 2H_(2)O(l)` |
